Great video, it really helped explain the mechanics of this game. I kept spooking herds even though i was crawling the slowest i could go and could not figure why they were spooking. Made sure everything was good. Wind was in my face, i was crawling through shrubs, and i thought i was as quiet as possible. Turns out they were hearing me every time, and after watching your video, im now able to sneak in to 40 yds for a bow shot.
Yes! And now I don't worry so much when they go alarmed, I just freeze and watch them waiting for my shot. The bow has been incredibly difficult for me to use, but now it's fun just to sneak up close and wait for the shot.
Great analysis, very useful info. Kind of feels like cheating. A little frustrating that the visual is so weak on the game. Do you think the visual plays a bigger role on Hunter difficulty?
It seems that the difficulty increase primarily controls how fast the animals alert meter builds and at what range the meter is triggered. At some point after this video was created there have been undocumented changes to the animal senses. Sight maybe working better now, but the video info still holds true for the most part. I'll have to revisit it in some form 👍
That is dependent on difficulty setting. On default it appears that a rifle shot will be heard out to 200-250m. Out at 200m they may not spook, may just go alert. In tomorrow's video moose at just over 200m heard the shot, but did not flee. On hunter difficulty it's probably out to 300m.
No I did not find anything more out. But I do not believe I have encountered it since then. I know the devs saw the video, so hopefully they sorted it out
@@bumblewoot Hmm that's odd haha. Like a buggy state between normal and alert. Never know, they might fix it in a future update soon since they've seen it.
It would seem the game didn't know what to do. You were spotted but the alert mechanic wasn't triggered either. So they did something in between? The term for this would be, "breaking" the mechanic. An irregular behavior for an irregular behavior perhaps. Or, maybe there's another component at play. anyway, thanks for sharing your findings!
It was as if their ai stopped working. The devs actually took a look at this footage as one of the community managers saw the video. I do not know the results of them looking though.

Nice! Glad it helped! It takes some time to get used to the invisible meter system

Best explanation out there. Thanks.

Thanks yet again. Good stuff
From what ive seen, if animals catch your scent, they wont spook, but theyll move away from your scent
@@thatguy_5240 they move out of the purple area yes
Hello! At what distance would the animals eventually be startled by the noise of the shot?

great video, thanks
If you had your weapon out, would they act differently when the mule deer saw you at that distance? vs. just having your binoculars.
Nope. Shouldn't matter which optic
Great video! Did you ever find out what they were doing in their "zombie mode"? haha. That was really odd
