Good comparison, but it is not only about speakers themself. Important is positioning in the room, Your studio room have to treated. The ALESIS M1 were more premium product in it's time...they still great.
It would have been nice if you used two mics for left and right to try and capture the stereo imaging better. It was very hard to really gauge the comparison between the direct raw, to the speakers, though the third in each triad (I assume the Alesis, as I'm totally blind), wins out at least from this simple example in my opinion.
Yes I agree with you, the next time I do one of these I’ll use two microphones. And yes you are correct, the Alesis is the third in each set, with the exception of the very last set (track 13) in which I play the source, Yamaha, Alesis, and then go back to the Yamaha. I found a pair on marketplace for £20 one was fine the other needed a bit of soldering and they work like new. Result
