Thank you Edward. I have the HS50M's and although a little harsher sounding than the HS-5, I'm used to them and will stay with them. They do right by me.
I think you need frequency response graphs or longer extended sequences where you can compare the monitors. And I've seen some of them and they're just not even worth buying. At that point you might consider Bluetooth and RTINGS has frequency responses of lots of Bluetooth speakers.
Am I the only one who believes regardless of your room size go for the best you can afford and just adjust your volume/level(on the monitors) to a suitable level for less reflection and always reference on head/earphones and other devices you think your ideal listeners uses?
I have focal alpha 50s for about 1 month and I’m very pleased with the results! I compared them in a music store with the hs 5s and they were a lot more balanced. I think that the Yamahas have very little bass and the focals are great in that category. The mids are very clear on both and the top end are a little harsh on the Yamahas. So I personally prefer the focals for my type of music. The yamahas are great too! (Here where I live they are the same price)
I've had the Alpha 50s for over 3 years and I love them! I was debating between the Yamaha HS5s as well but I went for the Focals. I recently added the Yamaha HS8S subwoofer paired with them and it's an unreal experience. Focal is a great speaker company, high priced, but so worth it. If I had more money I would've went with the Focal sub, but it's still a great combination. Either way, I'm happy to see you're enjoying these monitors as well!

That's partially true. Mix translation from monitors to other systems is a pretty big deal, though. The more accurate the representation at the first source, the less you'll be questioning your own technique because your monitors are giving you the truest representation of what you're doing. Lower end studio monitors will not always translate well to all systems. Yamaha's have been an industry standard for a reason. There's also a reason that you don't do this professionally.

The problem with using HS5s in a small room is that you can't place them near a wall because of the rear port and this is probably something you'll want to do if your room is small. Front ported speakers like KRK Rokit 5's would probably be better in this instance.
If you already like the Yamaha HS home studio series, check out the flagship of the company - the professional Yamaha MSP series. But if you get it to make your tracks sound only fairly good on these monitors, they'll blow you away on every sound system you listen to your soundtracks after mixing.

I believe studio monitors give the most natural representation of sound. Would Yahama HS5 be good for general use? Gaming, Music ect? Looking at either HS5 or Presonus 4.5E or if you have any other recommendations im open to others. No budget.
what doesn't seem to often get mentioned is the freq response. My keyboard needs around 40 Hz to 40KHz. Have you tried finding speakers with that range? Amazon is poor as most descriptions don't mention the freq range
...humans cannot hear above 20khz max...most people only about 16khz....i like an extended high frequency tweeter to but no human being can hear up to 40khz...20khz - 25khz should be more than high enough...quality over quantity....the 1 1/4" tweeter's on my Eris E8 XT's only go up to 20khz but sound fantastic......my Q Acoustics Concept 30's go up to 30khz, my best music playing speakers used with an SVS SB1000 12" subwoofer....your tweeters should sound very clean if well designed taking most treble distortion well above the human hearing range...
It surprises me to see the HS5 described as having a flat frequency response. It really doesn’t. They’ve been analyzed extensively and have a quite pronounced peak in the midrange around 1khz.

Hi Ed, I want to get a fuller sound out of my digtital piano. Should I use Monitors to do that? I have a Yamaha P515, which is a great keyboard but I would like to emulate the acoustic sound better. Are monitors the best way to do that?
Monitors are focused on accurate representation with the goal of mixing music in mind. If all you need is a better sound than the speakers built into your piano, any quality speak of appropriate size for the room you’re trying to fill should do. A good speaker doesn’t need to be a monitor as you don’t need to monitor specific frequency responses :)
I just gor the Yamaha HS5 and I absolutely hate how they lack bassand the treble is so not natural. It is the most synthetic I have ever heard. Back to my old Audio Pro T14.
Why don't you want a large speaker monitor in a small room? Won't the large speaker communicate the low frequencies better no matter what size room you're in?
@@rogerrinkavage thanks. Seems that the problem is more the "untreated" part, which would be a problem no matter the size of the room. So I'm still not seeing the relationship between room size and speaker size!
Just saying..... If my budget were to ever permit, I'd have a studio lined floor to ceiling with Yamaha SH8's, but for now I suppose a matched pair and an HS8-S sub will just have to suffice! 🤔😂

@@EdwardSmithMusic awe mehn! They could’ve at least given a special for purchasing two!
what is best size monitor if im at a corner of my living room, the lviingn room is big but also have some angles, currently using 3.5 in ones but want to upgrade
❤ from Burundi 🇧🇮
No one talking about Mackie. I think Mackie are a great undervalued monitors.
Can i just buy one yamaha speaker first and save for the second one instead buying a pair for the price of the yamaha?
What if I want a pair of studio monitors to run my Fractal Guitar Amp modeling unit through and get the most accurate sound out of my Fractal?
Hello there! Looking for some advice.. I have been looking for some speakers to go with my upgraded and new gaming setup that i am currently putting together.
Hey bro did you announce the give away ????
I would love to get the midi keyboard
5'' is prcft for home studio or semi professional studio
Where do i find those triangular pads?
It surprises me to see the HS5 described as having a flat frequency response. It really doesn’t. They’ve been analyzed extensively and have a quite pronounced peak in the midrange around 1khz.
that is very good for checking your center they have also less distortion and 3d image - an forr untreated room they bang
The hs5s are the most lousy studio monitor I've ever seen in my life.I have hs 8s but i don't have a big room i want to try kalli lp 6 i hope i get a better sound
@@mpirgkel4363 i tried them and its true. The HS5 is very not flat .... there is a bump in the mids. I hated them.
i agree its all hype
Hi Ed,
I want to get a fuller sound out of my digtital piano.
A good speaker doesn’t need to be a monitor as you don’t need to monitor specific frequency responses :)
what about hs4 yamanha? is this good like hs5? i just play guitar and sing.
I just gor the Yamaha HS5 and I absolutely hate how they lack bassand the treble is so not natural. It is the most synthetic I have ever heard. Back to my old Audio Pro T14.
Bro I am going to buy my first studio monitors I am confused kali lp6 Eris 5 xt or krk5
Love all ur vedios
Thank you!!
Even at low volume or in a small room the HS8 sounds better at low volume so why don’t say it’s a waste of budget?
Nice advice 👍
Great video. Those monitors look sick. I would like to listen them live.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Why don't you want a large speaker monitor in a small room? Won't the large speaker communicate the low frequencies better no matter what size room you're in?
Probably too late for this, but big speakers in a small and untreated room will cause a buildup of bass frequencies and 'boom-ynes'
@@rogerrinkavage thanks. Seems that the problem is more the "untreated" part, which would be a problem no matter the size of the room. So I'm still not seeing the relationship between room size and speaker size!
Lower frequencies have a longer wavelength, and therefore need to travel a longer distance to complete
Sir my Scarlett 2i2 always blink though computer turned off... Is it a problem or its nothing?? Plss reply
U need to try the kali audio in 8 v2
I'll have a look! 👌
Your all videos are usefull
Not to mention this helped me a lot decide my monitor size🙂
Awesome!! Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
Good man, great advise bro. Keep it real homie 🤟

What is that music that starts playing at the 5:27 mark?
Really needed this video thanks ed 📼💯
Great! Glad it was helpful 💪🏻
Just saying..... If my budget were to ever permit, I'd have a studio lined floor to ceiling with Yamaha SH8's, but for now I suppose a matched pair and an HS8-S sub will just have to suffice! 🤔😂
what about yamaha hs7 ?
Great video well done
Thanks for the visit!
Bro can u do a detailed review on M AUDIO CODE 25 Midi keyboard plsss bro
I have the HS8's - no regrets!
