Of all the Southeast Asian countries out there, Vietnam happens to be the trickiest
and I will tell you why.
today I'm going to share with you my top 5 travel survival tips for surviving Vietnam.
Mekong Delta Hanoi Ho Chi Minh City Sapa.
People wearing little conical hats called coolies…
depending on the city grow to or the village,
Vietnam can be a fairly bustling place.
1 beware of theft.
sorry sorry it happens there it happens there a lot. Focus. Know where you're going. Know what's around you.
In the course of around two weeks I met for travelers that had been robbed in various differentnt ways.
Bag snatching.
Taking out a wad of cash, when you're paying a motorbike taxi.
Leaving your backpack at a hotel storage space or luggage space because you're going to take a trekking tour.
Leaving your valuables unattended while you're searching for money to buy a drink I'm going to leave a link here.
I'm going to leave a link right here to my view on travel safety tips for solo travelers.
Counterfeit agencies.
Counterfeit agencies are companies cthat have a logo of reputable company on their store front.
However, in no way affiliated with that company
they're just they're just trying to steal customers from a reputable company.
Usually you can tell because they're just so many of them do not very subtle.
You're going to have to listen to your intuition.
If something sounds wrong or weird then it is.
Avoid avoid..
Go to the places that feel like they're professional.
Where you feel like the people behind the desk are trustworthy.
You can't always go by the company logo or company designs yes signs me nothing in Vietnam.

I lived there for 6 months and it was the safest place I have ever felt. I rented a house, motor bike, and taught English. The key is not to be an idiot which is difficult for many people.
Hi ! please a few question:
Can you go out from the country & come back to get extended visa ? If yes - how many times can a tourist do that to extend his time there ?
From where did you rent a house ? Is it cheap than hotel ?
Motorbike - is it legal for a tourist to buy there ? it's really your bike after you buy it or you need to do it as it someone else bike ?
Thanks & sorry for a lot questions :)
Don't worry guys! Vietnam is far safer than what is said in the clip! Anyway, thank you Christine for spending time reviewing this country. Remember, there are bunch of amazing things you can only enjoy in Vietnam, not elsewhere around the world!
welcome to my country. You should experience the life in the village, with many of food which the city aren't have. And I think, people are more friendly, honest than the city ones.
Just returned from a two week trip and your advice was pretty SPOT on. Wish i would've seen this before I left! Keep up the great work, Christine!
Great informative tips.....thanks for sharing thumbs up.
Yap. its an adventure... thanks for the tip.
good planning idea. best information video👍💯😍💖
i leave to in two weeks, aaahhhh I'm so excited!
Very nice video. thank you for talking about Vietnam.
I think you should have a VietNam friend when you travel my country. They can save you from thieves and motobikes. Sr for my bad English xD.
Excellent. I have been thinking of solo traveling to Vietnam
Judicator924 I hope you do. It's definitely doable! =D
I'd get a trusty Vietnamese guide.. Seriously.. better prices, safer, just all around better.
Thank you, very practical and helpful information!
This video would've been helpful if it was around from 1955-75.
***** Exactly what i was thinking =)
hello. I enjoyed your video and want to say thank you for sharing.
Awesome tips!! A trip to Vietnam seems like an adventure! I've always wanted to visit ! :)!!
also I really liked how you edited this now I'm going to catch up on all of your Vietnam vids :D!
Gloria Powell You're sweet G! Thanks for being so supportive of my channel.
My pleasure I always look forward to your Friday vids and feel inspired to travel more!! :D xo!!!
Trickiest. :) I love your survival tips.
Awesome!!!!
I wish you would do more of these type of tips for more countries. I find they're like guidebooks, minus reading or sitting in front of the tv for hours.
Miss Takes I'll be working on getting more out! Any you want to see?
Read lots of negative stuff from other bloggers about Vietnam and how the country/people are unwelcoming to tourists. I've not read many good things to make me want to go but these are helpful tips!
Ive been, I loved it but like everywhere you go you meet these sorts of people, but in my opinion 85 per cent of people i met were super friendly.
I know I'm a bit late. But, yeah you'll always feel a bit strange as a tourist, but as long as you aren't an American, you'll be fine.
I have been there several times and it's a great country with friendly people. As long as you respect the country, people, and culture no issues. It's usually the younger people that act like fools and get drunk that have the problems. To have a good time traveling you have to have a mature attitude and research.
My motherland lol- hope to visit one day soon!
I witnessed a local Vietnamese stealing an iphone from another local. She dropped her phone while sitting on a van and the guy responsible for collecting the money, snatched out of the floor. Then she asked if anyone had seen it and they just made fun of her. I am NEVER going back to that place.
So a few people had a few things stolen... I didn't, and not one person I know that's been has either, theft happens in all countries, so this advice could be for anywhere.
I'm from Vietnam! 🇻🇳
Awesome!
Thanks! Great tips!
niesha davis You're welcome!
Thankyou 😍😍😍
Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks a lot.
Hi! Thank you for your wonderful travel blog video. I am planning soon to visit Vietnam and to search for open market for coffees. Where can I find it? Thanks!
Some really awesome tips here! I will say I personally found Cambodia a little harder than Vietnam, mainly due to the difficult of using dollars and the condition the notes need to be in to use them. I also withdrew a 50 dollar note, it was impossible to spend it haha. Withdraw 90 dollars instead of 100 and it will give you 20's!
Vietnam was my favourite SE Asian country though, Hoi An is especially beautiful. I agree with motorcycle usage as well, it is very dangerous. I personally did it but am quite experienced on them. The honking you hear can be a little irratating when you are walking around but super useful if you drive while there to know where the bikes are around you! :D
David Petrie Wow, that bit with dollars sounded like Myanmar, where the dollars have to be crisp and unmarked! Awesome that you're experienced in motorbiking- I was so tempted to try it, but traffic looked way too crazy for me. ! almost mentioned something about the honking, as its uber nuts in Vietnam. =D
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa Absolutely like Myanmar, can be a little frustrating to deal with as I'm sure you know! Probably for the best to not try motorbiking in Vietnam for the first time, I'd suggest northern Thailand if you wanted to give it a go (maybe Chiang Mai?) because the roads are better and less busy. Great experience though, seeing countryside that not a lot of tourists get to see.
Yeah, I learned in Pai a while ago and Chiang Mai is mellow, so is Bali! Agreed, motorbiking is definitely an ideal way to see the countryside.
Jim Brantley Pai is quite the expat central also. In a way, Chiang Mai feels more Thai than Pai. haha
#6 don't wander into the jungles, on a real note though i heard most landmines, bombs, and traps aren't disarmed and can still be activated
Nice Tips 🤗
Yeah...may the girth be with you.
Great job!
#Vietnam is a definitely a beauty of a country, with many sights to see. But as a Southeast Asian country, it's also the trickiest!
Watch as I give you the down low on how to navigate #Vietnam and I'm hoping, despite my honesty, you still want to go!
Share your tips and recommendations for others to see! #SoutheastAsia #traveltips
hello Christine Kaaloa recently i joined your channel.. thank you for all the blogs and helpful tips videos and everything.. After seeing your video to india am planning to spend my vacation there.. but i have a question if u could answer me please, is it safte to leave our money and stuffs in the hotel? both in India and Vietnam? thank you.
hey christine. love waht you do boo! i'll be in hanoi for one week and am trying to get to sapa for a bit. Would you recommend travel by train or bus there? Im weary of the trains cause they are closed door compartments but the idea of beinng on a bus with no toilet is a no go too. also, if i want to do a trek or a homestay would u suggest booking something in advance, or getting there, getting a hotel and hiring someone once on the ground. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated please. thanks
wait so, should I carry my valuables with me at all times? Meaning my laptop, camera and 4 camera lenses? Should be with me always?? Because you said leaving your bagpack at a luggage storage is a way to get ripped off...
Hi, please tell us how to hire a scooter
What to be deposited while hiring scooter?
Thanks
Hi, I'm planning to travelling solo to Vietnam this year. I usually use motorbike in bali, but I'm not so sure doing so in Vietnam, it's seems more chaotic than bali (please correct me if I'm wrong) and is it save to take a night bus for woman who traveling solo? (it's 6 hours journey from MocBai, Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh Vietnam and I don't know how many times they will do a stop over)
P.s Great advices as always!
Ayu Ca It is much more chaotic in Vietnam than Bali x10. As for the night bus, I can't say as I've not taken the overland night buses.
If you did choose to do so, I'd probably recommend finding a tourism bus agency (or guesthouse recommended), that many tourist travellers use, so you have other travellers on your bus as well. It helps.
+danielkeeffe It's best to book when you're there. TONS of tour operators.
great explanation.thank you
These are mad tips! I hope you do more. How was the Pho?
Guapo Vagabondz Tales #Delicioso.
I love Sapa.
Are there metro trains in Vietnam like how BKK has BTS/MRT and here in Singapore we have MRT?
doobeethat Productions im from vietnam and we only have bus for public transportation now, the mrt is on construction. But we have uber and grab for taxi (car & motorbike), use it, its fix price and safe
Planning to go to hcmc in February or March, I’m confused about the visa. First I read I could apply for it there at arrival, now I’m hearing I need a letter of approval from the embassy otherwise the airlines will deny boarding.
Thankyou for coming my country, if you want to know more about it come across my chanel
Hi I’m from Vietnam
you miss... are awesome!
I am going to Ho Chi Minh city 🌃 I have a question when is it sefe to used your iPad/phone in Vietnam 🇻🇳 so it won’t get stoled
Pass on VN and India. Too much hassle.
do you book budget tours in advance or are they easy to find there??
Shouldn't you leave your bags in the hotel storage room?
What's wrong with that?
I thought it was to keep our belongings safe
Red Liberty I wouldn't leave valuables in there. Unless a hotel is going to insure your belongings in the case of theft (which many do not), it's leave-at-your-own-risk. Employees can go in and out of the room. You can ask the two Australian dudes I met who got their backpacks broken into, broken and valuables stolen when they left it for a two day trek. Also, the police gave them more of a rough time than they did help them. But the choice is always up to you.
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa wow ok thanks for the advice grrrl!
Nah I agree with Red. If you can't leave it in the hotel storage room, then where else safer would it be? In your room? lol. Hell no. To put it simply, there is no safer place to store your luggage than in the hotel storage room. It's the best option you have.
@@RabidTales Ya? what if the guy with the keys steals it and denies it? I've had money stolen from a locked hotel safe in Cancun while out, and a bike stolen from the locked bike room in my Canadian apt. Things can get stolen anywhere, wake up. Once its gone, its gone, no complaining is going to bring it back.
do not use xe oms, the rip u off and will threaten u
First time a drove a motorbike was actually in Vietnam

She thinks we're all stupid 2018 not 1970
She's just trying to share her experience. How do you get she thinks we're stupid?
I've been to Vietnam 6 times.. my 7th will be in June. All these tips do apply to modern day Vietnam.. trust me.
In fact, about your video and tips, I'm really appreciated when you pay much attention and take note. But in many things, I cannot agree with you!
Perhaps you can share the things you don't agree with?
I don't get your tip on the whole motorbike thing. Motorbikes ain't just unique to Vietnam. Most places in SE Asia are motorbike frenzy. Vietnam has nothing on Thailand & Indo for e.g.
How much the Vietnamese carry on their bikes is different from a lot of Southeast Asia.
The thing is we get on well it that, So it is ok =)))
I just arrived in Saigon yesterday. The bikes here are crazy indeed. lol. Oh, and i got poisoning from rice wine. Currently in my hotel. So sick :((((((
Beautiful woman!
They sound like awful people... lol I'm going there with family. If my parents are any examples, they will lie, steal, cheat, and con me, all whilst making fun of me thinking I don't know the language... I'm honestly not looking forward to that.
Thank you for your tips, I appreciate the honest heads up ^^
are u single?
