Zeus AKA Tiny Lister was one of the most awesomely scary heels of all time. I put him up there with WCW's Big Van Vader & The Undertaker who trapped The Ultimate Warrior in a casket. And they were some scary mfz!
I was fn ENRAGED when WWE forgetting to make a tribute to the WWF 's Titan Zeus he wrestling in both the WWF and WCW and star of Friday the player's club he was also in a Episode of Renegade. RIP Zeus
They acknowledged his death on TV and you can find a highlight package of him on their website. I think that’s suitable enough for someone who was awesome in his day but ultimately had a short career.
He [Vince] did wanted ZESUS to hold the WWF CHAMPION for one year.. but Tommy Lister refused. Saying it would be a SLAP in the face for the wrestlers that wrestle for a living....😮
Imagine a movie where Hulk Hogan the actor plays a character called Rip Thomas who defeats a character called Zeus played by Tommy Lister. Then in WWF we find out the movie character of Zeus actually exists and shows up and wants revenge on Hulk Hogan the actor for playing the character that beat the character Zeus who is now real, in a scripted movie that was in theatres. And people actually asked “hey man you don’t actually believe this stuff do you?” 🤦♂️
As I've said on other videos I would have loved to have seen zeus and undertaker when he was the 1990-1991 mortician they would have been a unstoppable force they were both similar where they both didn't feel pain and are resilient towards it, they would have been the real brothers of destruction
Underrated and underappreciated film but this Crossover was genius booking. It was a great way to promote the film. The WWF/E definitely booked him better than WCW did. WCW Copied the angle with David Arquette to promote Ready To Rumble. The only thing that WCW failed to do was have Arquette as his film character.
I met Zeus when I was 7 years old. He came to my elementary school field day in Covington, GA. Apparently he was friends with my P.E. teacher. Even though he was the same size and build as my P.E. teacher, he seemed to tower over everyone. I remember thinking.. No wonder Hulk Hogan could barely stop this guy!! He's a monster! Myself and about 100 other kids let out a collective.. AWWW MAN! When we were told that Zeus wasn't going to be signing autographs until later tonight at the local High School..
As a wrestler Zeus was bad but as a sports entertainer he was awesome his character was smart his timing was great he could have keep going having shot matches but powerful he could move slow and once he got you bear hug you till you passed out or a slam that knocked you out and his look was spot on. He didn’t even have to be a full time wrestler and not even a final boss and he’s the monster that can’t be beat. One match I would have done it an intercontinental championship match have him almost beat the champion but instead of pinning him walk out as if the champion is not even worth your time. This to would have sell the heal character or loss most of his matches because he wouldn’t listen to the ref and beat up on the ref. You don’t have to be a good technical wrestler, like Brett, Hart or Kurt Henning. But you need good ring awareness, ring, psychology, timing, and how to work the crowd make them hate you or cheer. You just make them believe in your character.
Zeus strikes me as a test version of the Undertaker in which the WWF wanted to create a character who would no-sell every blow delivered to him. Obviously he didn’t have the lasting impact but he was the first big man to be portrayed as the unstoppable force when he first stepped through the curtain.
@ Ok, if you know the business like you just implied, how would you create a successful company that would be more profitable and get more mainstream exposure than WWE’s product? AEW got off to a hot start but the honeymoon period has long since passed. Maybe appealing to the “smart” audience doesn’t translate into money at the box office. At least not in North America. BTW, Andre was allowed to be booked vulnerable in 1981 against Killer Khan and 1984 when Ken Patera and Big John Studd shaved his locks. He put over Antonio Inoki in Japan, Canek in Mexico and territory stars like The Sheik and Jerry Lawler to name a couple. I think it’s safe to assume he sold moves when he faced the top stars from those times.
