Ain't everybody a little nowadays? Standard Sexuality norms are evolving so much, I feel most people are coming around to the idea of it being a spectrum over 1 or 2

I agree that the concept of tolerance is odd. Imagine someone saying they tolerant dogs. It kinda gives the impression that the person dislikes dogs and is actively trying to restrain themselves from hurting dogs.
Christians tend to focus on tolerance and the way they mean it is like ‘okay they are sinners just try to convert them and if that doesn’t work just pray for them’. I think the world would be a better place if we supported people instead. Like normalizing stuff instead of othering. Don’t be colorblind, but don’t make everything binary

The origin of the words ‘queer’ and ‘gay’ is super interesting I’m surprised I had never heard that before

I'm a queer person studying archaeology, literally how has it never occurred to me before to combine these things. Like, Marxian and feminist theory is a whole thing in archaeology?!?! I've studied it before?!?! But at that point I was desensitized to it being commonplace in my anthropology classes so I was just like, "oh yeah, that stuff, old hat." and just never touched it again.
Im disappointed in myself tbh. Now I'm off to do some research, and considering a whole new career trajectory lmao!

A lot of the conversations in this episode remind me of what-I think it was Corry-once said about how there is value in viewing words as descriptive instead of pre-scripted. The idea that language evolves and this is important especially in the LGBT+ community because there is lots of nuance.

I am very LGBTQ+ lmao and my favorite part of it has been watching other people's perception of my sexuality change as I transitioned (ftm) because to me, my sexuality has never been weird or different, but to other people I've been many of the letters haha

As a queer women currently studying physics at Uni it was really interesting to hear about the working climate from academics. I'm fortunate enough to study at the University of Sheffield, where one of the professors that does a lot of the undergraduate courses is an out gay man, who also does research in physics education in relation to minority groups. Because of this, I never really considered just how exclusionary the discipline is beyond undergraduate education, despite already knowing a lot of the statistics in relation to gender representation. My project module next year is focused on outreach and education, and this episode really gave me lots of ideas for possible project directions, so thanks!

Thank you for this episode. Ramon and Timothy were delightful and brought so much valuable insight. I can't wait to read their papers. I am currently at the end of my computer science studies and only now with my master's thesis, I undestood that I want to research queering computer science. Hearing about queer studies in STEM is really reaffirming and gives me so much hope for a future that provides technologies and constructs with intersectional identities in mind. This was genuinely a lifesaver. Keep it up, guys. These podcasts are amazing.

I'm a patron of sciguys and currently at Cambridge doing classics, just failed in my first year lol, it's been such a difficult subject to pick up being from a working class background and not having access previously so i totally see that being the case with other subjects too and it can be so unmotivating once you actually experience it, id agree it's not directly related to being queer (im trans) but its definitely another hurdle

Listen "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word (Jesus) and believes him who sent me (God) has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.John 5:24 Are people born gay? Do people choose to commit adultery/fornicate or are they born with a tendency to sin? Please think about it. Repent/believe before the rapture. Out of love Jesus died for you. Love U

Sure... Remember too that Jesus hang out with prostitutes, lepers, tax collectors, all the fringe people of his time.He didn't force himself on people and accepted them as they were. He was truly unconditionally loving and kind, something alot of you Christians have gladly forgotten in favor of contempt for outcasts and proselytism. No man can insult God, saying that he makes mistakes. LGBT+ people are born this way, because He made us this way. People are God's flowers, we are as diverse as flowers for His liking. Don't judge, as Jesus said. ✌🏽

The word homosexuality did not enter a bible until 1945. It was a mistranslation of pedophilia/sexual exploitation-the people translating it even admitted their mistake. There are many bible stories which can be interpreted as queer, even Jesus and his beloved disciple. The Bible tells us to love our neighbour and not to judge, maybe try that some time

@@thisdoodo5957, I am religious, but not monotheistic... I'm a progressist Wiccan. For me great men and women of all paths of wisdom are equally important. Remember that no prophet or sage ever explicitly wanted to found a religion, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism where founded when the great men where dead, then mythologized by their mourning companions (Myrdin was too, he became known as Merlin 😝) .
When I read what these men said it was always messages of peace, acceptance, humility and enjoyment of Nature (God's creation). Muhammad said Humans where supposed to be Nature's gardeners.... and I hope some people will be reminded of it in some mosques. All wanted to teach us the same wisdom, now it's time to truly follow the teachings 🌼🌱
