hi, I just wonder why you don't make a canal system. rhe canal was an ancient structure that made a channel for a lot of water conveyances. A tunnel system is an another ancient, human-made and powerful structure. American was defeated by a single "tunnel" in Vietnam War. and tons of underwater tunnel systems and sea bridge systems. and you may can input Venezuelan mountains terrain which is top-flat shaped so that everything can be done up there including a city with plots, units and builders etc. before Civilization 6 too many builders must be auto-controlled but now that is no needed so if we settle down a city on the top-flatted mountain, then it is hard for builders to work alongside plots but beneficial to defend the city against others trying.

I have tried already a canal system in mod, downloading it on the website. but it is too watchable due to its shape. it was like a city on that canal (so ships can move on that ground). but there was a lot of trying for these conveyances problem and nobody could solve it. take care thx

I'm Chilean, I'm 34 and I've played Civilization since it's first version for SNES in the 90's and fell in love with it instantly, I got interested and learned a lot about history, science and cultures thanks to their civilopedia, a first step that came before many more that I took after.
I always thought that the Mapuche and Lautaro deserved to be in Civilization for their history, their achievements and of course, for being the only native tribe who beat the Spanish in the colonization wars with the amazing Lautaro as the leader.
Thank you Sid Meier and Civilization, for being here in this times where games have to be REALLY EASY to be sold for people who are to lazy to think too much, thank you for being a real lighthouse of knowledge and culture for the people who are still interested in learning more while we actually have fun!.
    .
PS: Homework for all the Civ players, read the story of Lautaro and the Mapuche, an amazing example of bravery and intelligence. Also the Mapuche vision of the Universe is really unique and beautiful. Highly recommended! ;)

lautaro, in mapudungun (mapuche language) means "swift hawk" just like his leader skill. also Malon riders: malon was a battle tactic where a group of raiders in horseback siege a city or fortification in a swift surprise attack and then leave before they cannot counterattack. and then come back again lather at random times, getting the defenders on constant alert. this tactic was used to demoralize and weaken the city defenses ( just in game, lowering the enemy city morale )

To the people saying they are a "minor tribe". This minor tribe was the only one who actually resisted the spanish conquest for over 300 years, Also fended off the Incas before that, their combined territories equal the size of the inca empire, they just never were truly "united" under a single goverment.
Lautaro led the mapuche after learning from the very Spanish its diferente strategies and tactics, and then adapted those to suit better the profound knowledge of the geography of Chile, soon the mapuche were able to fight on equal terms against the Spanish, not to mention be able to raid again and again their outposts, fortresses and even larger cities (they even managed to burn and pillage Santiago de Extremadura, the main city of the spanish occupation).
Lautaro's life and strategies are to this day, read through the world at several military academies. The conquest of america, when looked at grand scale, seem like a fast and "easy" process, be it the caribean, south or even north america, thanks to the technological advantage of the conquerors. Well, the mapuche represent that expact point where that wasn't the case.

Alexander Dragonfang but dude... in the same game there are the best tacticians of all history like Barbarossa and Ghenghis Khan, if you compare those people to the Mapuches, then the Mapuches they do really look like just a minor arcaic tribe, it think that it makes no sense, making the Mapuche to fight against masive empires who done huge things in history like the Mongol Empire... its like trying to use a 50.cal sniper with super high accuracy against a tiny insect... In history it allready happened.. just watch the aztecs vs spanish, or the european countries against the african tribes...

In fact Lautaro (Leftraru) was captured and raised as personal squire by don Pedro de Valdivia, the first governor of Chile (Francisco Pizarro's second in command in the conquest of the Inca empire, and a veteran spanish soldier from the tercios that fought on Flanders and Italy). Valdivia taught Lautaro about the state of the art of european weapons and strategies, infantry and cavalry formations, and probably some history. Lautaro had to accompany Valdivia in battle, serving as auxiliary soldier, and was also left in charge of taking care of his horses, this being very a important mattter: warriors of most american civilizations and cultures fell into demoralization at the sight of spanish riding these imponent beasts in battle.
When Lautaro saw the way Valdivia tortured the defeated mapuche in the battle of Andalién, he developed a strong dissapointment and ran away from Valdivia 2 years later, in a journey from Concepción to Santiago when he had a chance to escape. He joined his people and supporting their resistance against Spain, shared some of his knowledge and proved to be an awesome strategist, becoming a revered leader who was elected as Toqui (warchief). Eventually he defeated his former master, and took his own sword. Thus, his ego raised as yeast, and he became somewhat tyrannical to the other less beligerant araucanian peoples, the Picunche and Promaucaes. Because of that, his most important allies deserted him when he was marching towards Santiago and left him alone with his own warriors. Lautaro could have ridden of the spanish presence in Chile, but instead he was betrayed, ambushed and defeated.

The Mapuche destroyed all forward settlements from Spain, in the end the Spanish forces decided to abandon going further south of Chile and just fortified behind the Bio-Bio river (similar to what the Inca Empire had to do before as well). So it makes sense if forward settling is a bad idea against them.

This seems to be a very powerful civ: Extra culture, bonus damage against any civ in a golden age, bonus experience with governors (wide gov instead of tall gov civ, I take it) and then flipping cities mid-war simply by attacking units trying to defend it to stop enemy production/control of the city whilst also allowing you to take it without it losing yields for taking a city belonging to another civ.
Should be really fun to play domination with them.

@@jeremyalexander9761 After apartheid major nations sanctioned South Africa. After discovering the heightened nuclear arms research and testing by the Boer & English, the USA agreed to cease sanctions if South Africa ceases with nuclear arms. Today in South Africa the Xhosa remain amongst the Caucasian people while the Zulu remain to the East where they travelled to in hunting the Xhosa. The Xhosa are safe with the Caucasians. Even today there is a mad hate between each other. If the Caucasian people left then my guess there will be a huge slaughter from both sides. A few thousand illegal migrants flood South Africa daily. It is a beacon of hope for the surrounding nations seeking a better life. Any white political party is not voted for in fear of Apartheid rebirth. Meanwhile similar but less sever laws are put in place against the Caucasian people. These evens are similar to what happened in Zimbabwe where racist political members killed and destroyed the Boer farmers. From the bread basket of Africa to poverty stricken wasteland. The same is happening to South Africa, but will the South African realize before its too late. The indigenous South Africans were the San and Strand loopers. Very few roam these lands. The first to land in South Africa was the Dutch, followed by the Xhosa and Zulu, then the British. The Zulu live separated from society. They dwell in mud huts in one of the 9 provinces of South Africa in fear of growing or building too much because the Zulu king will seize it for his brother at the slight thought.

Not magnificient enough to be considered a world wonder though.

Will Jewish Civilization be added in the future? Solomon or David could be the leaders, Kibbutz could be the unique improvement, Zealots (swordsman replacement) or Merkava Battle Tank (modern tank) could be the unique units... Diaspora could be their unique civ trait

loving all these interesting leaders! For me it's the only part which makes me play civ 6 as well as civ 5.
I will just say though, compare the comments section here to that of literally any of the female leaders introduced recently - the difference is striking and the sexism of a minority of the fanbase obvious. More of these less well known leaders please!

    • @MrJoeyWheeler

I love the two idiots that responded who seem to think "historian" = "studied every culture or else you're bad or eurocentric".
Historians, like scientists, come in many different flavours. People study the history of what they want to study. Some specialise in South American history, some in North American, some in European, some specifically in Egyptian, some in Sub-Saharan African, some in Asian, etc, etc, etc. There's nothing wrong with a historian not knowing about the Mapuche. unless, of course, they study South American history, in which case yes, there may be a point of concern.

    • @wtavenier
      @wtavenier 6 років тому +2

I studied Dutch history and Chinese history. So not South American. Still, I have heard about many leaders and civilizations. The fact that these don't ring a bell and neither to my five historian co-workers, means they couldn't be of any consequence outside of their part of the world. Not being conquered by Spain for 3 centuries hardly make it an important Civ.

Damian Freeman i am aware that an historian doesnt have to necessary know everything, but at least know some point or some sort of mention. La Araucana de Alonso de Ercilla is like Don Quijote de la Mancha ... a masterpiece if you dont know Cervantes or Shakespeare how do you name yourself a man of letters ? Same with historians.
