- Welcome to the first anime pilgrimage on the channel! Had the opportunity to go to Oarai in Ibaraki prefecture Japan to discover the setting of the anime, Girls Und Panzer.

As being Girls Und Panzer Fan in America, this will be my life time goal to visit Oarai Ibaraki.

Ah gup, the first anime i ever watched and still my favorite anime of all time. Man i would love to go to Ooarai, but that ain't in the books for the coming years, hopefully the town will still be filled with gup when i finally can go :3
It's brought them in a lot of tourism so I think the girls are here to stay!
Might stay so for some years since it's Das Finale airs once a year, probably a two thanks to the current pandemic so..
@@GennyGen They probably will keep it for several years even after the anime/movies finishes airing. Numazu city and the town is an anime pilgrimage dedicated to Aqours from Love Live, and even if it finished airing they still keep most of the Aqours billboards, Restaurant décors, Train décor, and etc. Heck, they still run some events from time to time related to Aqours. Ooarai may also do this, they are also more likely to keep the GuP décors because...
1. Even after the anime finishes, it still would leave a mark in the anime industry and newer fans would still go to that place including OG fans. Heck, in MAL you can see a lot of GuP advertisements so it's quite popular. It's also very popular in Japan.
2. The people there have low-key become accustomed to it, so much so that GuP is part of their annual Ankou festival.
3. There are many people that live there that are also dedicated to the anime as well, such as the restaurant owners or people who decorated their place because they like the anime, just like how there are those who love Aqours in Numazu.
Great video! Actually once walked down a street that looked familiar, and then saw a little sign. The street had been scanned into the original Shenmue. Always nice to find Easter Eggs like that!

Everything about this video was so much fun! I can’t wait for more anime tourism videos! Thanks for taking us on this adventure with you! I’m a bit envious. I love how towns have mascots and that the towns embrace the anime series that are based in them. Wish the USA had this same thing. Will just have to go to Japan. My bucket list includes going to Yurucamp locations and camping out at least once. So envious of all the anime merch you can get in Japan! And the cafes!!! They look like so much fun!!! Food and anime, these cafes combine a couple of my loves! The tea and curry looked soooo yummy! Loved watching you have fun too. Your fun spirit is contagious and brighten my day. The trains, stations, mailboxes, taxi. It was so cool how much you all found. Oh and the apple juice! Did I mention I loved everything about this video😄

Hey, I was there last year (2019) when Ooarai Ankou festival. Now that is real fun. A lot to eat and buy GuP related. Yes a lot of GuP stickered cars too. Anyway it was real fun, and i will go back in the near future. Many shopss feature a Character or tank.That terrace near the tori in the sea, it wasn't there at the time I went there. Oh, you know, there is even a manhole cover in Kirameki street GuP related.
I've never watched the anime before, but seeing all this makes me want to now 🤩 Awesome video as always 😊🎶 Have a wonderful day!

This local is slated for my next trip to Japan! I have done pilgrimages for 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" (Nishinomiya, Kobe, Osaka) and two that are one: "Onegai Sensei" and "Onegai Twins" (Lake Kizaki, Matsumoto, Karuizawa and various small towns). I always wondered if Oarai was like those anime, as in you can find the actual house and apartments shown where the characters live. I only failed to find one: Kei Kusanagi from Onegai Sensei. This might fail to since they live on an oversized aircraft carrier! I plan a week long hunt around Oarai and you guys just showed me some great places to start. The fight with Saint Gloriana took place on these streets so it should be a good hunt! Thank you for the video! I really can't wait for my next trip now!

I am so living vicariously through you right now! Along with Darling in the Franxx and numerous other series Girls und Panzer is one of my favorite. I wish the rest of the movies and OVAs after Das Finale would come to the states. 😭

I am planning on a day trip to Oarai from Tokyo on 16.3. and enjoyed the video. It made me so excited to explore the place.
I'd like to know however how big is Oarai? For a day trip are most locations walking distance? Judging from the video you visited the beach, tower and tori and made your way back to the train station on foot and it's still daylight :)

@@uss_04 stayed in Mito! From Tokyo Station take the joban line. There's a local train that'll take about 2 hours and a faster one that'll be more like an hour but it's more expensive

Hi! I'm a huge GuP fan, and am planning to visit Oarai next month! Do you know of a map where I can orient myself to visit all the cool places you highlight in your video?
Hi! Tbh I just used Google Maps and placed each place in the search. I didn't really know what I was doing when I got there, just happened across everything on the way to the beach from the station. The station has paper Maps of Oarai!
I don't think I'll get a response but. Where did you stay in Oarai and how long did it take you to fully experience everything? I plan on going to Oarai this month.
I stayed in Mito, the capital of Ibaraki, which is just a short train ride away! I arrived in Oarai at about 9am, got to the beach closer to 10am, then was able to walk around and see just about everything before sunset and then went back and stayed in Mito.
The most impressive 13 minutes of my life XD

Question, I love GuP and would love to visit but how well do the locals speak English? My Japanese isn't very good and I want to be prepared for that.
This place is so rural that I didn't hear English that much, however the workers at the Cafe are from the Philippines and a few of them spoke perfect English! But for everything else you should be okay just learning basic words and using gestures.
@@GingerGaiden Alright! I'm hoping I can make a few friends in Japan when I visit because foreign friends are always the best. I know a few of my friends literally joined the Army as tankers because of GuP and used their leave time to visit Japan and they had a good time there. What places to eat do you recommend?

How did you get a ride back to Oarai station? Probably from the Shrine since I don't know if you went to the Aquarium too. Then again I probably came there during a dead week when the town's rather empty and visitors are really few.
Seems to have more visitors when you went there compared to when I did.
Getting back to the station was a bit of a pain. There are bus stop around the city that aren't on Google maps, and we found one near a hotel that was near the tori gate in the water. We were crammed into that bus for a good 40 minutes just to get back to the station but looking back it was worth the experience
@@GingerGaiden Guess that's better than walking from the Shrine all the way back to the station..while trying to rush it also since it was almost late afternoon. I thought I miss the last train since the station was mostly closed..luckily I got to the train with the GuP decor going back to Mito station.

One day when covid is over I too shall make my pilgrimage to Oarai. How longs the train ride?
From Tokyo take the Joban line up to Mito.The rapid train is about an hour and half. Then from Mito take a local line for about 15 minutes! Not too bad and great scenery
