Hi amelia I do not actually own a bmw myself but to answer your question pre LCI and LCI are different generations(model years) the transmission on pre LCI models I'm fairly sure is a different gearbox to LCI models I think the older ones are 6 speed and newer 8 speed auto or 6 speed manual. hope this helps if you own one :)

As I know and Understood from your video the P behind the shift gear is a replacement for the manual parking handle then what is the benefit of the P on the top of the shift gear? Thank you
Hi, Usama! The P on the top of the gear shifter indicates whether or not the vehicle is in Park. Hope that helps!

The P on the gearshift puts the transmission in Park (mechanical parking pawl), while the other P applies the parking (or emergency) brake and you are supposed to apply it every time you park on a slope (or every time at all). Also, the transmission is put in park automatically when you stop the engine (or a message lets you know you otherwise).
Reverse?
The problem is you cannot Park your car in N. If you want to be able to move it. Where I live we can Park in some situation where everyone should be able to move your car. Everyone must Park on N.
So just leave your key.
Can I hold the auto hold function while I'm driving on D? Should I shift it up to Neutral?
The “Auto Hold” function has been made to be used in particular while in position D. In my BMW this function is always activated, I never turn it off. One of the best functions in the car in particular combined with an automatic gearbox ! 👍😉

@@russellbosley5988 In my BMW M440i Coupe (Sport automatic gearbox) there is the “Auto Hold” button. Once I press the button, every time I get into the car and start the engine, it always remains active for me (and the light on the button is always on), until I press the button again to deactivate that function. Now I don't know how it works in other cars. I have to deactivate that function only when I go to the car wash, otherwise the car would always block. Once I forgot about it and the workers who worked at the car wash shouted ... turn off the "Auto Hold" function !

What does it mean when the shifter won't stay in gear? When i put it in gear it jumps back into park.
Hi Julian! That could be a number of things. Your best bet is to take it to a dealership or a trusted shop and have someone look at it for you.

When I put my car into drive it works but when I press the break it goes back into parking and I have to turn the car off and start the engine again and put it into drive. It keeps doing that when I press the break, does any one know what this is or who can help me?

BMW's electronic shift sucks. Why? What do you do when no battery and need to tow the car, you need to access neutral. Good luck, and bring a jack! duh!

M F bruh bmw has keyless entry and when you push it start it won’t drive until you put key fob in a spot to drive now that smart
