- When asked to help prune the prickly pear I jumped at the chance and grabbed my machetes ▼EXPAND THIS SECTION FOR MORE INFORMATION RELATED TO THIS VIDEO▼
Bush or ‘Latin’ machete
My bush machete is pretty dull but picked it first because it has good reach. The blade is evenly weighted making it an excellent all round tool for cutting vegetation and clearing brush.
Cane knife or Cane machete
These have a light thin blade with hook and mine is pretty sharp. Ideal for hacking and chopping through sugar cane.
Bolo machete
It has a distinctive bulge which adds weight to the front of the blade making it efficient for chopping. Mine is pretty sharp with a thin blade and effortless cut though the cactus.
Tapanga machete
This heavy machete has the bulk of the weight towards the top of the blade to make chopping thick and woody vegetation easier. It would have been ideal for that spot where I needed a couple chops.
The fruit from this plant is an Italian delicacy and we need to prune it to reach the top. They recommend you never cut more than a third from the plant.

stop clicking it James haha. That was my attempt at a silly viral video and probably should have gone straight for the chainsaw. The next time probably will be with something smaller like a bread knife and tongs. How normal people prune them.
@@Saw-IT Where's the fun it tha.... oh yeah, it's a freaking chainsaw, they are always fun :D

@@steve.b.23 Thanks, Steve I guess a 1000 likes is doable, I didn't give it much thought. I just picked something I thought was practically impossible.
