    I've huge respect for Germans and Germany in general. After all the tragedies and difficult situations Germans had faced over the years, they still fought back and built their nation. Their economy, education, social security, healthcare systems; all are well rounded. Most importantly, they are humble enough to revisit history and learn from it.
    I'm considering to pursue my master's degree in Germany and can't wait to study in this amazing country. Also not to mention, German language is very sophisticated and has a different elegance to it. Much love ❤️

    How did Berlin become the techno capital of the world?

    • @Shirley.Temper
      @Shirley.Temper 3 роки тому +101

      Probably because after the wall fell there was so much empty space in the old east of the city that it saw a cultural boom; artists, musicians and producers made good use of the space and set up their own clubs and creative spaces which, unlike during the DDR, would be limitless and they would have the freedom to express themselves more. Like most of the clubs you saw were in old warehouses or disused building (like the old Tresor was under an old shopping centre I believe). Most of these clubs became queer-safe-spaces and general safe spaces for creative exploration, and that’s why the clubs today still have that emphasis. Berlins always been a very artistic and creative city even from the 1920s so it bounced back in the 90s and just grew from there! It’s crazy the amount of history that actually the Berlin music scene actually has and it’s super interesting to read about

    Furniture on the street doesn’t necessarily make a place “dirty”. And its not what makes it dirty in Berlins case. Although it doesnt help. It just has alot of straight up trash everywhere. Specially in the green spaces and streets, people just leave food containers, broken bottles, drug paraphernalia, and just random stuff. And its not just alittle its ALOT of it everywhere. Green-spaces are also not kept very well and theres lots of smaller vandalism as well. Lets not even mention the tag graffiti. Which to a point people can tolerate but there is not 1 empty blank space that doesn’t get tagged.

    Nice video. A couple of other things to add: One of the reasons Berlin is different and is related to your comment that it is a magnet for those who don‘t fit in in the rest of Germany is that young people living in Berlin were exempt from military conscription back when that was still a thing. That attracted a lot of counter-culture and activist types.
    Also, I had an interesting conversation with a young Italian woman. She loved Berlin because it‘s so clean. I guess it‘s what you‘re used to.

      it is not well researched, It is the retarded radical leftist point of view which is spreading more and more and is the reason why Berlin is a shithole/slum and needs money from other states. The city is ruled by communists, it has the shittiest education system (which produces more leftists) and is filled with people from the 3rd world.

    I think that also the reason why some people might think that Berlin (and other bigger 'cosmopolitan' cities for that matter) is ugly, is because those big cities are getting more modern and more contemporary in comparison to smaller cities and towns that usually preserve that typical feel. I live in Belgrade in Serbia, and I can see that, comparing Belgrade which feel so strange and not cozy at all in comparison to some other smaller places, like Kragujevac, Novi Sad or Subotica

U will see people get beat up, or drug deals or people who take drugs.

    Berlin prior to WW2 was like the Las Vegas of Europe. After the war West Berlin was wealthy and immaculate, but East Berlin was not rebuilt by the Soviets. Even in the early 1990’s you could go to east Berlin and still pull bullets out of the walls of buildings. Not until the early 1990’s was East Berlin rebuilt. After unification people from the old Soviet Union could be seen walking for miles trying to get out of Russia and the East just to get to Berlin for a better life. New Berlin is becoming a beautiful city , but places like the Zoo that used to be awesome are now falling to urban decay.

    the question why berlin is so different makes me really sad... because it ceases to be different. gentrification gradually destroyed berlin culture. and as for the culture: berlin used to have great variety in music and locations but the useage of mdma in the technoscene elevated techno almost into a monopoly position, soo there is less and less berlin has to offer aside from techno.

    Quick tip : Thats not the 18th century. The 18th is from 1700-1800. The 19th century is from 1800-1900. While this is perhaps confusing it does make sense : 0-100 first, 100-200 second etc...

    Berlin was a capital until 1945, then as we know Germany was devided into west/east. After only another reunification at 1990 Berlin again becomes a capital. Until then Bonn was a capital (and remember the Weimar for some golden times of civil wars after WWI of course).

      Berlin was also the Capital from 1945 to 1990: Berlin - Hauptstad der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.

    6:30 not to forget that nearly every big company moved to Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg after war. These two states used to be really rural and poor. Now they are rich because they took all the money from Berlin. I hope that will change in the future
