So inspiring and an eye opener. But do you really know "Twiga food" You mention? Kindly come to Kenya and do a research on it. It's a pain to small holder farmers. It's a scam.
1. The more people go vegan the better food production will be for the environment. We already produce enough good for the world's population to eat healthily. The deforestation to grow crops isn't to feed people it's to feed animals (which aren't necessary for us to be healthy). 2. Don't tell your children to finish their food without thinking about it. Obviously if they're just being fussy it makes sense to tell them to eat something, but if the child was eating just fine and is now slowing down you must consider if they are just full. Telling a full child to finish their food for any reason could cause them to perceive eating as a chore. This can be a risk factor for developing eating disorders. 3. Eating badly isn't cheaper, it's easier. Fruits and vegetables are cheaper than meat so if money is a concern going vegan is also beneficial. The added food prep time is a small price to pay.
The introductory story got me hooked! Her passion as a little girl has become a very important part of her being and she’s trying to channel this passion into changing our food ecosystem for the better. Food is in abundance but its wastage isn’t warranted I’d add
The company I just left was keen on zero food waste with it being converted to bio fuel but the menu it offered encouraged food waste as the portions were just too big! I’m on my own mission to change my diet for something better and to minimise the waste that goes into the bin. If I can feed it to the birds, I will. If I can recycle it, I will. I don’t even use plastic or paper bags when picking up loose veg.
1:35 I don't understand the label "Qualitative impact -- not measured in monetary terms". How is this portion of the histogram assessed and why is it attached to a bar that utilizes a monetary term?
I'm trying to cultivate local species but I have to spend ever waking moment worried about paying my monthly fees. Can we just stop kicking people out of the only home they own? you shouldn't have monthly extortions on the only roof you own
this is awesome! you made what seemed to me for so long to be an unsolvable problem, solvable. actions to take based on this video: -consider the source and process from farm to table, -support businesses meaning to contribute to sustainability so that they can also realize profitability, -choosing to eat healthily is not just for personal health but for world health, so do it
A refreshing talk. For me, it lends to credit to the debate of taking Fresh Food out of the supermarket mix. Pretty sure this would go along way towards significantly reducing food wastage in the Western world.
Great talk, but I would like a more detailed talk on each of her points. It seems as though she’s trying to say too much information in too little time, which is nice, but it honestly leaves me a bit confused. Also the part about young women’s businesses may have to be elaborated, otherwise it seems out of place and it is unclear what is the benefit. I like her enthusiasm!
I agree with your point about the young women's relevance. She was trying to cover many topics in one talk and I can't say I see the future of food because of this talk
Great video. you've remind me of what someone once said❤️ "The mind is the man, the poor is in it and the rich is it too". This sentence is the secret of most successful investors. I once attended similar and ever since then i been waxing strong financially, and i most tell you the truth.. .
Ummmm last i remember crispr is now available in wallyworld so go by cheap mystery meat. GMOs are now the " trend " so just eat the solegreen...good luck with that.
Carbon dioxide isnt toxic and help plants to grow faster. We should worry about rubbish islands , toxic waste in our drinking water and general pollution. Carbon dioxide isn’t pollution yet ecoterrorist focus mostly ( I believe only is more appropriate word here) on co2 which is ridiculous. But so are ecoterrorist
They feared to lost the control of money printing and laundy, the humble will be exalted. Finally, let`s unite and increase the food prices for the richer to pay for. let`s see which are more important tesla car, new iphone, or food. JTC business can be run by man as well.
I think it's due to the fact that in Africa and places like India women couldn't contribute much to the economy due to resource issues. But that's just from what I hear with water- it may be something else I'm not 100%
this sounds much like green new deal language and impractical with no real solution. I am very surprised that there was no suggestion of growing your own foods and encourage miniature homesteading - when all it is is rhetoric with key phrases to what certain audiences listen for
Spot on. And when she speaks of holding companies accountable and incentivizing change (both of which are examples of those key phrases), how? Very dubious...
@@DHMelChan I said encourage but, prior, said grow your own food. if everyone takes responsibility to grow where practical it reduces the overall drain with shortages on the horizon. Not everyone can homestead but people are having chickens in their yards and growing their own food. Further, most apartments can grow food, space providing
They would have more if it wasnt for colonization. Not to mention everytime new technologies are created and implemented the creators are killed and the creations are stolen. Inhibiting more cash flow internationally that will make its way back to Africa to fund production of more resources but your ppl and the Chinese knew that. The continent is intentionally being drained and derailed to cause famine and chaos. Its been going on forever.
Grow and buy your food local. This would cut out shipping and storage. This would make sure you always have food near. Cities are barren wastelands when the shipping stops. Thanks for reading my better ted talk than this propaganda chick
The whole concept of "wanting" the food system to be better is the reason we are in this god-awful mess today. Meat is naturally expensive. Until the 1900s, every population on earth ate a predominantly plant based diet (except a teeny-tiny minority of extremely wealthy people, who could afford to indulge regularly). Meat used to be expensive, and was eaten more occasionally than now, and as a great side-effect of that was that everyone remained in relatively good health (apart from those who didn't die off from the thousands of diseases at their time). No government had enough power to make meat, or really any such luxury, affordable for the masses. Enter industrialization of slaughterhouses, and suddenly the western governments decided that "meat" is a necessary component of diets, without even inquiring into the fact whether the population was having a protein deficiency or not. Putting meat at the same level of sustenance as vegetables and grains, knowing its extreme costs and marginal benefits, is mind-boggling (at least to me), but thats exactly what happened. The majority of people were (as well as now) naturally more than happy to have a share of their nation's taxes go towards universal food subsidy. So you get unimaginable subsidies for growing animal products, such as milk, eggs, beef, chicken, etc. This is a trend adopted by developing countries too now, who are letting their environment suffer from over-production of animal proteins. Not only that, a direct result of this is food wastage (yep, a lot of the food is wasted even before it gets transported to the market, for the end consumers). Subsidies prevent farmers and food distributors to pay attention to this horrid cost. Prices are simply the best way to ensure that people get what they want and farmers produce what they can efficiently. Government intervention has caused over-fertilization, over-irrigation of farmland, and kept unproductive farmers who rely on weather patterns in business far longer than they should. There is no right to farm - farmers are not a special class that should need to be supported indefinitely - and if the trend of humanity is towards doing things efficiently (which I think we have a moral duty towards, given we want to multiply as much as possible without affecting the planet drastically), then their arcane practices need to be phased out. Will a government do it? Very like no. They want to stay in power, they will continue to support inefficient and debt-magnifying farming practices, and as a side-effect of that, will keep other, more innovative practices out of the market, simply because the incumbent farmers are heavily subsidized. In short, the human race and the planet is getting screwed, a lot of us know that, but we won't (or be able to) do anything about it, because of an informed public as well as governments whose best interest is to keep them as such. Food production will continue to get more expensive as we keep running out of arable land, forests will be cut down, until eventually, we are left with substantially less green cover that we have currently. There will be direct affects from this on the water cycle, biodiversity and us (the humans), such as epidemics, droughts and famines. This is not hyperbole - we are tilting the scales of natural balance too far in the wrong direction, and so we will face consequences (I'm not being religious, this is very common throughout the history). Our civilization will survive, because we are hyper connected (even a nuclear holocaust is not going to end radio communications, and the internet is forever archived). But we shall know the cost of that, which will be the lives of millions (perhaps billions if the population keeps growing as we expect). And to be clear, population growth is not a problem, as we grow and prosper, we always find more innovative ways to do things with less damage that fuels the next growth cycle. But due to government paternalism, this process is inefficient, and the cost of that might well be the majority of our flora and fauna.
So inspiring and an eye opener. But do you really know "Twiga food" You mention? Kindly come to Kenya and do a research on it. It's a pain to small holder farmers. It's a scam.
Superb. Telling that, in this time, more do not see what must be done, without money.

Look into precision farming. It's a game changer which is benefiting the earth, consumers, and farmers.

Restaurant's are going to take the biggest hits. They generate and contribute an ample amount of waste.
Interestingly, this would reduce carbon dioxide emitted by us by a considerable amount.

Genuinely curious, why the highlight on women?
Huh? You want to just ignore more than half of humanity? The right is off the edge of their flat Earth!

Where does one homestead when one lives in a fourth floor walk-up?
Your post has the most likes but it's way down at the bottom? 🤔

Africa has so much food we should emulate them?

Exactly

Your approach is very practical , but unfortunately many people are not afforded the same access to resources to grow their own food.
Exactly Mr Robert.......also, . I think people should move to areas that better support THEIR needs.
That's actually true, and if you can't grow your's buy from your next door neighbor who grows what you need.
I'm sorry my dear, fibre will feed your soil but it won't feed you until you've grown decent food.
Africam woman telling people to finish their food for the environment. Do u know how fucking ironic that is
So this is part of there move to stop meat
