Growing stuff in labs is not always the best course of action. Reality is underrated.
Ian, i think it is a better course of action than forcing animals to live in their own filth, denied of everything that is natural to them including fresh air and sunshine.
Forcing pigs into gas chambers, killing new born MALE dairy calves because they don't produce milk or killing newly hatched MALE chicks by grinding them up alive is certainly not a good course of action.
Animals are individuals,Animals are someone, Animals are not food.
It might become an option for some people. But many people, including myself, will continue to eat natural animal products like meat and dairy.
You're not the victim of meat and dairy: animals are and so is the environment. Good luck trying to justify supporting animal abuse when this scales up.

The problem with battery hens is around 2001 the industry changed to Lithium-Ion batteries. These sometimes explode spontaneously - destroying the hen’s undercarriage. After that, the hen can only produce scrambled eggs - which there is little market for. Hence the drive to grow chickens in Petri dishes.

No it’s not. Do you want understand what it would take to get this to tribe out in the middle of the jungle, people living on islands in the middle of the ocean, or the desert, or insert any faraway place. This kind of food is only a reality for people at the very top, those that don’t have to worry about surviving day to day.
Consultancy firm AT Kearney predicts by 2040, 60% of global meat sales will be alternatives: 35% cultured, 25% plant-based. That's global too. Just because some tribe out in the jungle cannot get it doesn't mean the vast majortiy of the urban population of the world won't have the means to do so. @@jjradV No I am not! I very rarely eat meat but I do like eggs. Chickens don’t have to die to produce eggs. Do the lab-grown chickens produce eggs? 🤔
@@Mu5096rdgh are you aware of how egg laying hens are kept ?
They are crammed together inside of large metal buildings out of view of the general public, deprived of everything that is natural to them including fresh air and sunshine, they are so crammed together they cannot even spread their wings.
Egg laying hens have been manipulated by humans to lay eggs every day, they do not exist in nature. Hens would normally lay eggs maybe six times a year.
Their bodies literally wear out from laying eggs every day, then they are violently killed for pet food.
Newly hatched Male chicks are ground up alive, gassed, suffocated or drowned because they don't lay eggs.
Dairy cows are forcibly bred (raped) every year so they will produce milk.
Male dairy calves are killed shortly after birth because they don't produce milk.
The babies are not allowed to have their mothers milk.
The cow is not your mother, the milk is not your milk, it is meant to grow a baby cow.
Cows are very maternal animals, they cry and grieve for weeks after their babies have been taken from them ,cows have been manipulated to produce un-natural amounts of milk, they are even milked while they are pregnant. They are literally milking machines, there is a lot of suffering in dairy products.
The milk is full of hormones and other toxins that are harmful to the human body.
Cows usually live into their 20's but dairy cows are exhausted between the ages of 6 and 7 and are sent to the slaughter house to be violently mudered for dog food.
The egg and dairy industries are extremely cruel, and yes, egg laying hens are slaughtered.
If you are eating only a little bit of meat (someone's body) are you saying abuse and murder is ok just once in awhile ?
once pricing and scaling up is solved, this really will be an inevitability. the ranching industry is looking down the barrel of a gun right now.

The natural survival of the human species should not be trivialised as ‘gastronomic pleasure’.

Most of the commenters here talking about how bad this is are very ignorant when it comes to this topic, and I have little respect for their desire to continue animal agricultural practices that include but are not limited to: using CO2 gas chambers for pigs that cause them to scream in agony; the maceration and blending of hundreds of millions of male chicks in the egg industry; artificial insemination of dairy cows that involves farmers shoving their entire arm up the cow's anus to grab hold of the cervix for proper sperm implantation; the separation of mother cows from their calves; shooting billions of animals in the head, slitting their throats open, and butchering them like they're mere commodities.

The origins of yogurt are unknown, but it was probably invented by Neolithic people in Central Asia and Mesopotamia around 5000 BC, when the first milk-producing animals were domesticated. They most likely found out how to ferment milk by chance and in all likelihood, yogurt was discovered independently in this way in many different places at different times. Wikipedia
