I went to school from 1st grade to high school with Drew Bollman, then after high school, or when I dropped out, had a band with Drew called Theater. He was always the smartest kid in school and never a dork. I went California to visit Drew at GIT and his roomate was Paul Gilbert. He was still just a student at GiT. Then he came back to Arizona and got in Icon. He even beat John Aqualino at the try out. I have been so proud of him and admired his accomplishments. Here he teaches at Berkley now. So underrated by Wexler. I see the video they made and Drew is in it for about a half a second maybe three times. Not fair. He was probably the best guitarist in the 80's, next to Steve Vai. He could write the best songs, but never got heard. Love you Drew, from Rob. My daughter has been trying to find Scott Ellis, Johnathan Davis told her he hasn't seen him in 17 years. I think he's dead. Why would he blow all of us off and the korn guys too.
I only recently discovered Icon a couple years ago. They are amazing. They are one of the bands I have really leaned on at times, when I was feeling down and out. Your friend's playing is really sublime.
No way was the genre over in 1989! Motley Crue and Skid Row's releases that year were in the top 20 best selling albums of any genre, not just rock. Even the more pop artists like Michael Bolton and Cher released hard rock albums that year and both albums were the top 10 best selling records that year. And there were others like Tesla and Great White in the top 50 albums of the year too. Yeah the genre was starting to wane compared to previous years, but it was far from over. I would say it wasn't over til about '92-'93, around the same time Winger had to cancel their tour due to lack of ticket sales.
