Anybody know of any live footage of these guys doing gigs in LA or anywhere else?

I'd heard lots about this effort, but having sung background vocals on both Lion LP's, as well as the Transformers theme, it's truly bizarre to hear the differences between the older and newer mixes. I'd met Kal through a mutual friend, and was brought in because Kal didn't want to harmonize with his own melodies on the LP's, plus back then, I had a 4 octave range, and was typically placed closer to the mic than Doug, Jerry or Mike. Drum mix was pretty horrible here, and I don't think I've ever heard Forgotten Sons, but this is so weird to hear these mixes, some 30 years later. :)

The guys were great to work with. Kal, though he'd chuckle now and then, was really focused, as he essentially co-produced the first album, Doug, extremely nice/humble, Mark was cool, and Jerry, far smarter than your typical bassist (my first instrument), and I see him here and there occasionally around town, as we live in the same area, north of LA. First LP sessions (in Santa Monica) went great, until we'd all caught colds around day five, so we were all pretty miserable during the middle of the 2 weeks of sessions, but, Kal and the band pretty much produced the second LP (recorded in The Valley), which seemed to go lots smoother. I've done background vocals on other LP's standing next to Don Dokken and Joey (Final Countdown)Tempest, but the LION sessions are among my favorite memories of the mid-late eighties. Great f**kin' times, Andrew. :)

Man, that must have been awesome. Sometimes I swear I was born too late 'cause the eighties just sound like a decade Id love to live in lol recording vocals for lion sounds like it was amazing. Wish I coulda been around to do something like that

Funny, how I was 13 in '69, and wishin' I were born a decade earlier, myself, because that's the 60's was my favorite decade of music to me, but though it really is work (not a lot of screwing around), the eighties really were a blast. Didn't hurt that my wife's boss at Geffen signed Aerosmith, Berlin, Sammy Hagar, Asia, ASAH White Snake, and a bunch of other bands, as from '82 to '88, we were either back stage , or at a private parties every other week. When the kids started showing up, we actually welcomed the break! Now I'm 60, and just had my 3rd cervical (neck) spinal fusion from years of head-banging at gigs in the day. Lol That reaper guy is a pretty relentless MoFo!
      ;)

The "typical" bassist isn't smart? I'd imagine they're a lot smarter than the "typical" singer.

Their best was "Trouble in Angel City." Overlooked masterpiece right their. Just like Fifth Angel's self title release. It don't get any better than those two records in this genre. \m/

great underrated band. First time I heard them was as a kid from the Transformers Movie (1986). Now I'm listening to their albums as an adult. Kal Swan is a killer singer, and my favorite guitarist of Dio other than Campbell was Aldrich, loved his work in Dio, not so much in Whitesnake though (though I'm a Whitesnake fantatic)

There's a reason why their name is Lion. Roaring as soon as the gates drop, shattering glass across the land.
