ultrasonic cleaner:
www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Commerci... - Спорт
let me know if you want more cleaning videos..... I am going to have someone come out for a filming session.... with a camera to film a full detail!!
Dude fill the tank with water and then fill a ziplock bag. Size depends on what you’re cleaning. And then put that bag in the tank of water. Save a shit ton of money that way. Took me a year to learn this.
@@p44doyle44 oh shittt that makes sense lol. So you mean out the chain and cassette in the zip lock bag, and then run it in the solution?
@@GCPerformance18 yeah get two separate ziplocks. Sandwich will work easily with chain. Or even snack size. The cassette is either sandwich or gallon depending on size of cassette. Put them in the bags and put soliton in bag. About half way up cassette will be plenty. Then get all the air out of the bag so only liquid is trapped with the component and it can sink in the unltra sonic cleaner. It will sink into the water and it’s plastic so the waves go in like nothing and you just saved a ton of cleaning solution. It works. Been doing it for a couple months now. Just get the excess air out of bag. Main thing. This way you don’t have to clean it every time too.
Yes please!! Can you provide a link to the cleaner you bought?
Yes, please! You did a video a couple months ago of cleaning during a basic tuneup. Something similar, but maybe more advanced cleaning would be awesome.
My Tips for using Ultrasonic Cleaner:
Fill up the Tank with just Water and heat it up beforehand with a water boiler (Much quicker)
Put the Parts in a Zipper Bag with the Water/degreaser Solution and then in the tank (needs way less degreaser)
Always use Biodegradeable degreaser so you can dispose it in the Sink.
Jup thats it !
thank you so much!! I will do that, do you worry of the bag melting in the water? does it have to be a certain palstic bag?
@@GCPerformance18 a big ziploc bag works just fine. I'm using a generic bulk degreaser as well, no need for anything fancy or expensive. I'm using Smoove to lube the drivetrain, so finishing is with the smoove prep on a paper towel ahead of lubing the chain. It lasts a long time and stays pretty clean, so a deep clean like less is required less often.
Great video! I have an ultrasonic cleaner (and love it) but none of that special liquid. I usually do the ultrasonic after a normal bike wash (once every few months) and just add about a capful of degreaser to the water. Even then, seems to get quite a bit of dirt off. I use the Silca Synergetic lube too and am on 10,000km for my SRAM Red chain with no measurable wear so far and the cassette still looks new.
yea no lie before this video I have done cleaings with just hot water and it works almost identical to that cleaner.... I think I might not re order it and just get awaywith soem alternatives
Another ultrasound machine tip I’ve heard is to fill the tank with water and then use a smaller glass container for the parts that you actually put the cleaner fluid in. Sit the glass container in the water. The ultrasonic frequency will transfer through the glass container and clean the parts. Then you simply remove the glass container when done. Uses less cleaner and you don’t have to clean the machine tank.
really?? that is awesome I will try it for sure
@@GCPerformance18 was just about to suggest this. works just as well, and saves on the expensive stuff.
It's an old trick with the container inside the container. Car detailers and jewelry cleaners use ziplock bags with the dirty stuff and cleaning solution inside, and then the ziplock bag into the clear water in the ultrasound cleaner. Saves a ton of precious chemicals.
I have one of these at my house for my bikes. You can spray some simple green directly on the parts and put them in the water and its clean. You can also use Dawn dishes soap in a bottle mixed with water and spray that directly on the parts and put it in the water. Plus, it's safer than what you are using. Oh yeah, most importantly less expensive and you get the same results. I put warm water in mine as well.
Haha… that’s the same thing I tell people when I complain it’s cold in So Cal… “it’s cold to me dammit”… 😂😂😂😂
lmao thats what I am saying, if it makes me put on a sweater then it is cold to me
@@GCPerformance18 😂😂😂
Great video and that cleaner works really well! A shop I know, uses a Crest ultrasonic cleaner, and I always say, no other shop does a complete service like they do.
thats what we are trying to do and maybe implement something nicer to an already expensive service
@@GCPerformance18 I could not find that ultrasonic cleaner in the link below. Did you say you got it off of Amazon?
Converted to a wax chain on my road bike last year, the best thing ever. Drivetrain stays so much cleaner. One on the bike and the other on standby ready to go. #teamwaxedchain
very nice I got some nice wax lube coming in soon
+1 to using wax, much cleaner option. #teamwaxedchain
Wax is AMAZING, not only does the drivetrain stay clean, the bike only needs to be washed with water, there is no oil to wash off,, your hands/clothes stays clean too, and you get more watts, longer life for your drivetrain, no chemicals need, not even detergent to was out your bearings.. win win.. I've been using wax for over 10 years, never go back..
What sort of mileage do you do between chain swaps?
@@PeatCowman I just follow Molten Speed Wax suggestion of 300 miles in normal conditions. Could go longer until the chain starts to squeak or shorter if riding in wet or muddy conditions.
I love my ultrasonic! I usually do a soak in gas (if new or really dirty) followed by a rinse/scrub in degreaser. Then ultrasonic with distilled water. Squeaky clean!!!! Chain is then set for the wax!
soak it in gas?/?? damn
@@GCPerformance18 Yes, for metal parts only, but it quickly dissolves/loosens oil, grease build up, and dried on crude from any surface. Ultrasonic can then get any bits an initial scrub misses. I filter the gas for multiple uses and allow the oil/grease to separate. It’s amazing what’s in the filter paper from a 30 minute soak.
for cleaning solution, mix 2/3 minerals spirits and 1/3 naphtha (camping fuel).... very similar to LR solution. Cleans everything well, if you run heated, items dry quickly with no residue afterwards.
After I switched to old school waxing I rarely need to clean the cassette, usually cassette is done once for every 4 waxing on the chain (about 300-400 mile interval on the chain)!
I use a Harbor Freight US Cleaner, had it for around 3 years and its made easy work of cleaning cassettes, chains, chain rings, fixing bolts and derailleurs multiple times a year. I've found that Simple Green works best, and is "environmentally friendly." Best investment you can make if you are an avid cyclist and want your drivetrain to last. Fantastic video
I have heard simple green alot in hee, I have to try next time
Just run your solution through some tissue paper or coffee filters in a funnel when you are done and store in a separate container from your un used solution. You’ll get a lot more milage from your liquid that way.
Hell of a lot of attention to detail here for what is a clean ish summer bike. We’re on winter bikes here. Alas. One 100 metre road and be filthy again. This is the level of cleaning I did 13-18 years age before putting away summer bike for winter in UK !!!! Even in summer we don’t get assured good weather so this kinda looking chain cassette is after ride one with a light shower. Would love a clean bike every ride like this
Simple Green and water works great.
yes
You can put water inside the tank and put your cassete or other parts in a plastic bag with your solution.
It will dramatically decrease the usage of your solution and cleaning the tank is bascially not needed.
yea thats what I am going to do next
I use an ultrasonic cleaner to prep my chain for wax. I use WD40 industrial degreaser and water and it works great
FYI, the heating section and the cleaning section are seperate. You can heat the solution without running the ultrasonic section.
Ahhhhh I did not think thag but. It makes so much sense lol. Thank you very much
I understand you issue with "cold". I live in N. Carolina and we can get pretty hot in the summer. When the temperature first starts dropping, I feel really cold when it isn't that cold. About the time I get adapted, it warms up again. On another note, I've had an industrial ultrasonic cleaner for years. I've always wanted to use it to clean bike parts but I never really knew what it use in it. I do know you want something that doesn't foam up a lot or it will be very problematic.
yea no foam up, but I mean just go for it.... woprse case replace chain and cassette lkol
It's freaking cold!
Savings tip: just use regular water in the tank, take a zipp lock bag and fill it with the solution, put part in the bag, close and drop it in the tank...
Some lubes do a good job keeping grit off the rollers. Ever since I started using rock and roll the gold (applied every 100mi), I cant remember having to try to get grit out of the rollers. Before that, it was a lot of work to get the grit out after each long ride.
I heard rock and roll is a great lube, I have just always used the lube that we ahve at the store, btu that might be something i have to check out next
Rock and Roll for the win. CONVERTED over an year ago. Amazing. So many people say bad things about it because its so “lite,” but that’s its secret. IT CLEANS and LUBES. Amazing stuff
Silca Super Secret Lube is 100x better than RnR Gold
Cool video. I like the different content like this once in awhile. Would LOVE an overview video of a Look 795 Blade though
really??? I mmught be able to get one
For sure. It’s a cool bike with some nuances you don’t see anywhere else. Ie square steerer.
Try using the concentrate and the item to wash in a plastic bag to reduce waste and protect the environment
I think they recommend you use 3% to 10% solution vs water. I find boiling the water in the kettle before adding it to the cleaner makes things go much faster. You need it at like 60 degrees Celsius for cleaning.
yea, I was going to dilute the product which I did before but for the video, my water at the store is foggy..... I need to change the filter, so it would not show it cleaning so I just went all solution, but boiling water is a nice touch to it
I think you're supposed to dilute that cleaning solution. Highly concentrated cleaning solution can damage metal. Might have had something to do with the cassette looking odd after the bath.
I’ve used 100% citrus degreaser in my ultrasonic heated cleaner and it actually started to remove anodizing off parts. Now I dilute 50/50 with water. I’ve also heard of people just using water and Dawn dish soap for cleaner in their ultrasonic machines
the first time, I used the machine with the sink water and little solution but the sink water we got here at the store is very foggy.... so it doesnt give it the best for filming you can not see the products in the water..... I also did a couple cleans before this with just water and they worked very nice as well.... I think for the price and cost I am going to just use water from now on, that solution is too expensive for shop cleanings, personal cleanings works greta but will just use hot water from here on out
@@GCPerformance18 Home Depot sells huge bulk 5 gallon container of Zep citrus degreaser for $35. I’m pretty sure it’s the same stuff as Finish Line citrus degreaser. That’s what I use and dilute with water. It’s a great value.
Yeah, 100% cleaner will remove anodizing. It started removing the black anodizing off of my X01 chainring the first time I cleaned it. Be careful, you wouldn’t want to do that to a customer’s parts.
@@330_Crew same here, i started off with 100% krush degreaser which was wearing anadising off cassette lockrings, now i just use hot water in the ultrasonic but before, i put the parts it the basket and spray the crap out of them with degreaser (foams up a little with the cheao soray bottle i have) then put it in
yeah dilute... RIP my gold chain
Came for the cleaner, stayed for the rant. Cold is cold
Vid ideas just my 2 cents. Product spotlight/ reviews on literally anything seats, shoes, cleats, bars etc. Seems like the walls are covered in vid possibilities!
yea I know btu I feel like some people dont enjoy as much...... it only htis for certain people
IF your cold try putting some long trousers on !!!!
hahahha then I get to hot
I will use a smaller version of that cleaner. Wish I went for the larger as I can't get the cassette submerged in one go. I've found you can set it heating without running the ultrasonic part, just by pressing the heat start button and giving it a while to warm up. I also get good results using cheap general purpose degreaser chemicals from a local builder store here in the UK. I'm starting to find the black anodising on an Ultegra cassette starting to dissappear after about 10 cleans and 4000 miles. Not sure if it's the chemical or the ultrasonic.
Def sounds quieter too! I gotta find that US cleaner.
That chain looked alright but man it was filthy. I stopped using dry lubes and am using liquid wax now. Much simpler to just wipe the chain and reapply.
yea I got osme nice wax products coming now
I thought the first shot of the chain was the AFTER cleaning view.... You should see how filthy mine is :-)
hahahhaha I could only imagine after that statement
Great video. Been looking for one of these, i think i am gonna pull the trigger. What is the fluid you used? I think i found the machine, but not the cleaner.
lemme get the links hold on
I just wash and brush the casette and chain with dishwashing liquid after every 2 weeks, produces the same result anyways.
very nice!!! shit works great, you can get nice results with a little bit of elbow grease and nice products
The timing of this video could not have come sooner. I literally did a full detail on my rig after months of rain and dirt and yet again got caught out in the rain and mud again with all the fine sand. Got home and stripped the wheels off and cleaned them separate from the frame and drive train.
1) Rinse the frame with straight water knock off the bigger stuff
2) Foam gun the frame and hit the wheels as well
3) Pro tip..... I use APC and Citric cleaner on the chain and derailleurs and wheels and for the cassette.
4) use different brushes for the components. Chain and cassette needed several applications and agitation ....the Ultrasonic would have save me time.
5) Rinse off with water
6) Leaf blower to dry off the entire bike
7) lube everything
sounds like a nice regiment!!! but yes the ultrasonic allows you to save some time while it is being cleaned u can do something different to make your time more useful
From my experience, for chain that use only dry lube, there's no need to use any degreaser or specialised fluid, just using water and the ultrasonic cleaner will clean it very well (I can hold it with my hand without getting my hand dirty).
Old school way to undo the casette. It's much easier to use impact driver. :) But anyway thanks for a nice vid!
hahahha all we got are old school tools but they work great
GC Preformance. What’s the make and model of the Ultrasonic Cleaner used?
I'm trying to do the opposite on my murdered out EVO. I'm going to soak the cassette in vinegar to tone down the shine and give it a dark slate grey look. Would be nice if Shimano made black cassettes for road bikes.
that would be awesome or try anodizing lol I always wanted too but yea I know I dont know why companies dont offer black cassettes, they would sell right away
@@GCPerformance18 SRAM has them for MTBs and they're gorgeous.
Pre-2021 SRAM Force cassettes were black...they looked good, but the finish wasn't holding up so they changed to the nickel finish like Rival. I like the look of all black also...but at least with the nickel finish...you can't ignore when it's time to clean it.
Hey GC, what is the link for the fluid you are using ?
gc performance unveils true identity… ginger beard… 🤯
lmao it has been out now for a while
I am interested in buying an ultrasonic cleaner. How many watts of ultrasound is your cleaner? How many watts you suggest that will be most cost effective? Many thanks.
Same cleaner I have. Its fine for the cassette you put in there but for my axs mullet bike I have to rotate the cassette and go again ;(. Really should have got a bigger one...
yea I know, I noticed that anything bigger then the 10-33 i am going to have to figure something out
Lol at justifying cold. You know we all are like oh shut up! 65!?!?
Dude, you say 65 fahrenheit is cold in Florida? Guess what -35 celsius is in Fahrenheit: -31 in Canada right now.
lmao
GC, do you reuse the sram 12s power locks? I’ve read they can’t be reused but I like keeping my bike clean and don’t want to keep spending money on the power locks.
yea I do, they are meant to be quick links for a reason
What cleaner solution did you use?
Hi, thanks for the great content on your channel, can you please tell me what's the inner volume of your tank ?
thanks so much it was 6 liters
I tear down my entire drivetrain and clean my chain and cassette in the same 15 minutes and it costs me $5 in degreaser and an old toothbrush. $50 a bottle for that chemical is crazy!
hahahha I knwo shit is expensive
I think the cleaning result was a bit disappointing. But if you're going to the effort of doing ultrasonic, then you should hot wax your chain. Saves time in the long run.
yea that cassette was worn out and had a lot of marks from werar on there
well with hot wax it just melts off with boiling water so you dont even need ultrasonic
ultrasonic cleaners will not be strong enough to remove gunk but they will remove hard to reach oils or light grease. a good the cleaner is to set the temperature really high then use a brush to scrape off any residue and then you have the confidence of your rollers being clean on the inside
Lol, if I’m cold I can say I’m cold…..ahahahhahahaha LOVE IT.
lmao
65f. Summer temps in Scotland 😂
can you clean a disc brake with it as well and would that help cure brake-squeal ?
use brake cleaner and new pads
did you reuse the sram masterlink chainlock?
Mountain bikers be like "why is he cleaning an already spotless bike?"
that cleaner is awesome for chain and cassette i use rim brakes so no idea about that
hahaha I know right
Reading the warning on a big bottle of ultrasonic cleaner: may etch aluminum.
Any warnings on your bottle?
Question - are Muc-Off products really that good? I see you use them often. My LBS doesn’t sell them (well - they don’t sell much of anything). I am willing to try them.
Yea they are really nice, they just do the job right and they smell really good, so it’s hot harsh to work with. If you want,
Go to Bicyclegeneration.bike use code “gcp15” and you can get 15 percent off everything on the site. Including muc off products
If you hold the shifter in, it will move continuously… it does on mine, and I have Force AXS
yea I kow I just like the click noise lol
I fill mine with water and just put the items to clean and solution in a sealed plastic bag. Less solution needed and doesn’t dirty your machine
Cool shit👍🏻
Thank you

How often is recommended to clean your cassette and chain with the Ultrasonic Cleaner
its not like a recommended thing, it is just something that will make ur drivetrain more efficient when it is cleaned properly and it will work well with little resistant
Do you see any problem using hope float rotors with sram red axs brakes system?
nopenot at all, u can usually use any rotor with any brakes.... it is not prefered but it can be done
@@GCPerformance18 appericate. Hope rotors looks way better , if I get the same braking power ,then why not
Ever run into issues clamping carbon fiber seat posts in the maintenance stand?
I ask because I want a maintenance stand and everything I’ve read says not to clamp carbon fiber.
they all say that to cover themselves from being sued but you just need to be careful with it, every bike is clamped down to it, but not an issue if done right
Wow it did not look dirty at first then once you cleaned it. It was a big difference
thanks you!!!
Its like washing jewelry
i want to do my wifes ring in there lol
I'm all day gatekeeping cold.
hahahah
The rear wheel could use some balancing!
Its probably due to running tubeless tyres and the sealant lays in one part of the tyre causing the imbalance...
Any alternative for mo 94?
gt85
I saw you could fill the tank with water, then put the solution and component in a plastic baggy. Allows you to use less solution.
yea I seen that too I did not know that..... first time i did the tank I used about 3 second pour of the solution and then the rest with sink water butt he sink water here in the store it comes out foggy..... so for filming it does not show the dirt coming off it nice.... so I figured for yotube I would just go full solution
@@GCPerformance18 ha that’s great
Do you typically clean a customers cassette if they come in for let’s say new CF wheels or something of significant value? I took my bike in a few weeks ago for new front/ rear ceramic speed wheel bearings and I knew my cassette and chain was filthy bcuz that same mechanic accidentally oiled my chain a 2 weeks before (I use speed wax) so it needed a serious degreasing. I was a little disappointed to get the bike back in the same filthy state. I work on cars and typically with the higher end customers you return their stuff a little cleaner than you received it. Just to set ourselves and our service a part from other shops. A quick wash does wonders.
As soon as I got the bike back I stripped it all down to get fresh wax on the chain. That meant removing the cassette again to clean it the ultrasonic cleaner, when this could have been done at the bike shop. Even if they called to say we’ll clean the drivetrain at an extra charge I would have done it, but to reassemble the bike with dirty parts seems lazy IMO.
so usually yea I would do it if it was one of my regulars or just maybe someone new I met and they spent a lot of money on a purchase.... but ti all comes down to who the tech is and also how busy the store is and also if there is a rush for you to get it that day or that night...... but yes I always try to give it even just a quick wash for something like that.... just to show the person I care and appreciate there business but it is my store so I care more about that, where as a salesman at another store might not give too shits
@@GCPerformance18 I feel the same with my customers.. I’m a regular and spend my money at the shop but to me it just felt weird seeing the dirty parts on the bike after it was just removed to do the bearings. I typically do my own minor work but I wasn’t planning to mess up $1200 in bearings so I took to my regular guy. I’ll give him another shot it a few weeks to see if he catches the small stuff.
I’ll stop by your store in a few weeks when we’re down for the Miami boat show 👍
Would have been better if you had started with an actually dirty cassette and chain! I mean, those looked better "dirty" than mine look after I clean the crap out of them!
lmao this is true
The ONLY thing holding me back from using this method is the fact you have to reuse chain quick links. I heard its not a good idea to reuse them which could lead to chain drops. How many times can you use the links?
I reused my quick links as long I uses my chain 9000km . Every 400-500km deep cleaning and removing the chain.
I only replace the link with the chain. I use hot wax to lube my chain.
Some quick-links are reusable, usually up to 3 - 5 times.
On paper, single-use quick-links are not recommended to be reused, but as long as it doesn't become so easy to be undone by hand, it should be good for a few times.
I have used quick links over and over again..... you feel when they need to be replced but the whole point is too be able to be reused.....
Dilute simple green as a cleaning fluid is a lot more cost effective
I will try that one timem too
Daym I could eat off that
Looks so shiny
;) it came out really nice I wil do more cleaning videos in the future
So you can reuse the masterlink that already on there right?
SRAM PowerLocks are advertised as single-use quick-links, but some single-use quick-link users reuse them a few times until its locking power becomes too weak.
@@yonglingng5640 So in the video he did reuse it right? or no?
i did re use it, notice how when I poped it back in, it did not lock right away so it still has locking ability... if I put it together and it went into place then it would have to be replaced
@@GCPerformance18 So are there sram flattop quicklinks for sale somewhere?
I couldnt find any
Do you think its safe to put the plastic part of a shimano cassette in that cleaner?
I wouldnet recomend it, they dont need to be cleaned so I would just levae it out
Good to know, thank you
Bro… that ain’t cold. It was 40 in Los Angeles!
hahahah its cold to me
That’s not cold ;)

@@GCPerformance18 I know that feeling. Worth a shot first shot
Make a what's called a "boat". Put your parts in a freezer bag, put just enought cleaner fluid in the bag, put the bad in hot water. You use far less cleaner fluit, and you won't have to clean the tank either. I just use diluted soap/degreaser.

you have to re lube it after it is done or else it will rust
@@GCPerformance18 Sure, but not like in the Middle Ages😁
Alternatively, just wax your chain so you never have to go through this messy process ever again.
You would have got the same result with 20 cents worth of petrol in a container and the scrub with a paint brush! We use ultrasonic cleaner's in the aviation industry, and we would never let a metal part touch the metal basket like you have done.
Why is that? What’s wrong with the metal touching the metal? I mean they even advertise you putting the item on the basket directly
@@GCPerformance18It's to prevent any possible fretting that may occur between the part and the metal basket. We have a plastic liner on the base of the basket. Also if numerous parts are placed in the basket, they are put in such a way that they don't touch each other.
