As big a fan as I am of this group, I can't believe I have never seen this video! But even though Jamie Starr wrote this song --- it is not one of their bests. But it is good to see all the boys doing the things that I love seeing them do! Much love to the Original Se7en!
Thumbs down no more as they did the song itself he went he went solo and did his own stuff to show people that he can do his thing see y'all don't really listen to the time and I really ain't no more stay family because if I was you would understand this man came to join Prince he was already a Star Wars day when he was young he was singing in French basement with his auntie allowed him to use the instruments once they was already singing so get this man in love with his heart
Prince doing backround vocals and the old man voice... if you back and study the Times albums you will find that Prince did this on several songs as most if not all were his creation.😎
He even told Morris how to dress and even stand there with his hand in his pocket and looking cool! This is pure Prince and Morris just following his guide vocals 💜
I don't care if y'all don't give Morris Day his credit he deserves Morris Day deserve that credit he's a great artist he don't have to have no high pitch voice 3:09 all the time just to be great for all you females and mails that don't get his manager respect that's okay he made it when y'all was putting him down he still made it
I love The TIme, and this song, but it used to always trip me out how Morris (and Jesse, later) would shout out "HORNS!!!", and what would follow would be these keyboard licks (which really don't sound anything like horns). I've always wondered what The Time might have sounded like with a real horn section playing those same parts.
Eric Hope I have an Oberheim keyboard, the brand that Prince and The Time used, and the sound that they use for the horn parts is a synth horn. I think about Time songs with actual horn arrangements all of the time. Most Time songs have horn parts that are played on keyboards.
I read somewhere that the keyboard licks that represented the horns were used because back before the bands were uber huge, they couldn’t afford to pay for a horn section so they improvised and used the keys to stand in. I love that synth horn lick.
Another song, this time completely authored by Prince. He planned to use it (he recorded it with Wendy and Lisa) but never released it. Instead he gave it to Morris Day and the Time and they did this with it.
Jill Jones said this was Prince way of being political and to have multiple incomes. The Revolution was for a broader audience and The Time was designed for black audiences.
Everytime we're out on a date I want to love you You make me wait Then you told me I look like a pimp But honey, I noticed you waited till after dinner Eighteen jumbo shrimp _Damn_
Completely Prince from front to back except for Morris's vocals, Wendy's solo and backing by Lisa and Jill. Hilarious how Morris would always call out to Jessie to play, and it wasn't him playing most of the time.
I watched the Prince tributes and noticed Jimmy Jam didn't look the same as he did before I mean health wise. I was just wondering did anyone else notice that too!
Prince said The Time was the only band He was scared of.I don't know if Prince being truthful, but Prince enjoyed the competition because the Time definitely pushed him.
I don't care what the Billboard chart say this is still a hit song
Thank you for saying that. This song was slamming.

My all-time favorite band. They bring the funk. Morris is still the coolest.
Terry Lewis is killing that base.
That's Prince.

Prince is The Time….writer, singer, all instruments!
no he didnt sing and the guitar solos are not him. on their last album he didnt play a single note
Don't forget the Linn LM-1, that is the Prince drum sound and is present in this song.
Maybe not but they re recorded his songs ...and chocolate is one of them .. you can even hear prince talking at the end...
I've always loved this song! Just funky.

You guys also realize that Prince wrote, produced and played all the instruments on this track but credited it to the Time!
Prince created most of the Time's records. On tape, Prince WAS The Time

Good Lord what a great sounding bass guitar. Crisp, clean with enough bottom to pull it all together. Superb!
You guys do realize that is Prince doing the waiter's voice....
i had heard Prince's version first back in the 80's It was better
Yeah, I have a copy of Prince's version. He was teaching the Time how he wanted them to perform it.
I was just about 2 point that out but U beat me 2 it.

I love both versions of this. Prince or Morris. So Good !
2010Gullwing JAMIE STARR aka Prince doing the waiters voice

He offered it to Eddie Murphy who turned it down in 1983.

Morris Day: Lead vocals, "cool"
Prince: All instruments, background vocals, "chef"
Wendy: Guitar, background vocals
