- Excellent live performances of "The Walk" and "777-9311" from December 1982. This was done to promote their album "What Time Is It?" These records are from their 1982 release, "What Time Is It?", and I encourage you all to buy that and their other works. I do not own this video nor the rights to it. posslife.com

Jesse is killing it on the guitar 🎸🎶
I'm watching this on the birthday of my dear friend of 50 years. The Time was his favorite band.✊🏾Rest In Power,Reggie Turner.7/15/67- 2/27/22.
Jellybean does one hell of job recreating the greatest Linndrum track ever created
JClaus1221 FACTS!!
Created by the great David Garibaldi of Tower of Power!
💯
And Jesse does an amazing job recreating that Prince guitar solo!!!
Prince choices one by one himself... Damn!
That's a HUGE amount of talent on one stage right there... That line-up was insane
AIN'T NOBODY BAD LIKE THE ORIGINAL 7VEN!!!!
25 people are clueless..
Nobody 🎶🎶🎶
LEGENDARY BAND.
He was one of the few that Prince actually respected in guitar. Jesse was dangerous. Prince always kept him at a safe distance. Check your history.
True. I don't think Jesse has gotten enough recognition for his guitar playing. I heard Prince also liked Carlos Santana as a guitarist.
Jessie was great but Prince was a Guitar God!!!
Jesse was very good, but he could by no means fuck with Skipper. (Prince)
The Time. So glad I grew up with their music. This is one of the most locked bands I've ever heard. They killed 777-9311. That pocket is sick!!
Sho nuff
ABSOLUTELY. REAL music played by REAL musicians. no "auto-tune" or "instrumental background playback" needed
Jesse channeled his inner Hendrix 💪🏾
Morris Day, what a frontman. He was the it !!!
Go on and walk Terry, that bass is the shit!
Watching this I couldn't stop myself from walking my body
This dude made Stacy Adams and smoking jackets fashion accessories in the 1980s.
it doesn't get much badder than this folks
The Time 2024 and beyond!!!
now this is how an audience is supposed to react to a band like this - people are screaming and cheering and dancing having the time of their lives. That makes the band feel like their presence there is more than welcomed and respected and in turn the band gets hyped up to give the audience a show unlike any they've ever seen before. And I bet everyone there went home feeling they won the lottery and Willy Wonka's top ticket at the same damn time. LOL
Exactly I love active and supportive crowds
Kick ass timing. Super tight. They rehearsed they ass off for this
I still have this ALBUM!!!!!
The Album is worth some coins since everything is on disc now!!!!
ROCK CITY Jesse Johnson Rock Island Illinois native! One bad brother on the Guitar and The Time one best Funk Bands in tha land!
That’s my hometown! Two of my best friends and band mates played in Pilot with Jesse. Billy Peiffer and Bob Boyd. Jesse is a legend
Morris gotta be the coolest man ever-period!!!
I forgot how tight the Time was playing live. Very Dope!
Jesse Johnson...the guitar shredah!!! That emeffin bass line and drum beat in the beginning and thru out...shiiid there is no other that comes close
Real singers, musicians playing live! Musicians whom knew how to read, write and compose music. They respected the craft. Middle class wages paid for their music/singing lessons. Once upon a time we had music classes in public schools! Racism and greed took it all away. Taxes will bring it all back! If not, the arts will die. Vote people, -VOTE! -VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS!! Make the rich pay more taxes, not less or we will all perish! VOTE!! Your life depends on it.
gerry glenn this is a industry job
You had to bring your ignorant political views into this great video. So I will tell you where you are wrong. I hope in the two years since you posted that you learned how stupid your remarks about racism and the virtues of democrats. How about get a job instead of worrying about rich people. Rich people provide jobs--they don't need to pay as much taxes because of that. Our tax law encourages that otherwise they just keep their money and you work at a car wash. You are probably one of those people waiting for government to give you a check because you are a liberal loser acting on emotions rather than results. Explain how racism and greed took away music classes. Sounds like a typical liberal excuse rather than a solution to your problem. Could be that democrat governments would rather pay illegal immigrant benefits than take care of schools? Democrats gave you BLM---Burning, Looting, and Murder in all the democrat run cities last summer. Now you have Biden. Too bad you didn't work on the fraud for the lower offices so you could really screw it up. I hope you are happy because you will regret your democrat government. Just wait and see how we turn out.
@@johnhoooten5536 I don’t believe in leftist liberal ideologies either! But what about those people storming the capital??
Prince once said that 777-9311 was the baddest bass line he ever wrote. :)
BigSleepyOx I Love Prince but he was also threatened by their Killer Live Performances
Yeh but you got to understand they are simply COVERING Prince's performances in the studio. He laid ALL the tracks for these songs except Morris' parts!! They bad, but PRINCE was the shizzzzzzzzz!!!
Aye....there's a vid online somewhere of Prince playing alone in the studio...sitting down, engineers out of the frame. He was the only one who could play it better than Terry. Loads of guys were trying to play that line....just wasn't happening. LOL.
@@floordoctor Find it and post it. And when you do, PLEASE tag me in. Greatly appreciated.
@@DesvigneDD Was looking for it the other day... someone put it up on Prince.org site......not sure if it made it's way to UA-cam....it might have at some point before his people removed it back in the day. If/ when I see it - I'll upload it at some point.
Bass player is killing it!!!
toy peezy that's Terry Lewis, also a wonderful producer, together with keyboarder Jimmy Jam, real name James Harris III. Google them…
Luv u 4 luving him, btw.
Terry Lewis (Bass) Jimmy Jam (Keyboards behind him) = Flyte Tyme
Of course that is the great Terry Lewis…
Terry was underrated
I have seen The Time twice ( only original members), and they were the tightest, baddest band. And yes, Prince was afraid of them. I do wish that they made album with Prince as a member as on cover, playing next to Jesse. Prince, Jimmy Jam, Terry, Monte, and Jesee writing songs.
The Time was one dynamic very talented band all the way around.
THIS VIDEO MADE ME GET OFF MY WALKER AND GRAP MY FUNKY SHOES, TO DO SOME REAL WALKIN'!!!
WALK SO COOOOOOOL! WATCH ME NOW (so I won't fall on my funky self!)
The TIME = The BADDEST SHOW BAND ever! 😎👌🏽
The love from Detroit for The Time was like no other. It was unreal.
The TIME and PRINCE always shouted us out
I saw that Triple Threat Tour at Joe Louis Arena!!!!👍🏾
Yup. Detroit use to have their music playing on Record Store promoting their store in the early to mid 80’s.
I always felt like RFTW were heavily influenced by the Time/Prince so when they hit, Motown was already primed for that sound. Tonight was played at least 3x on the radio everyday when it came out in Detroit.......at NIGHT at first!!! Back then it was a scandalous track.
jayskywalker5049💯
LOVE this version! Guitar sounds a lot heavier, which gives this song an edge. I was working at the PBS station in St. Paul in the late 90s where they taped this back in 1982...they still had it and we put in a clip to their weekly show. So good!
The Time was the shit!
Greatest band of All Time ⏲️
Most of those Minneapolis cats who grew up together were back during that time were all cut from the same cloth, hence the outrageous talent pool that was assembled and ruled that era of music. Prince just had a little more work-ethic, drive, ambition, confidence, and creative genius than the rest.
They were the last of those great funk bands from the 70s and 80s.
The Bass,Drum, and guitar is the meat of the song. Prince wrote, played, program, and sung all this on the album with some help from Morris and Jesse
Terry Lewis and Jimmy jam thinking just be good to me
Cut 'em Jesse!!
Jellybeans drum line is still one of the coldest beats ever!
Brings me such great memories of High School and College days. Love this group and my crush Jesse Johnson who slayed that 🎸 Solo.
finally somebody uploaded this. this was shown on PBS and it was never shown again. I didn't have a VCR because those fucks were $700 in 1982!
I remember seeing this on PBS and have been looking for this for years. I knew someone had it.
PhuckHue2 I remember watching this on PBS as well!!! I got part of this on cassette!! OMG!! This was 34 years ago?!? And STILL sounds awesome!!!
Prince struck platinum with this side project cuz they were so good.
That extended jam at the end is what Prince picked up for DMSR's live performances. The thing is similar to what he did with the Revolution. It's available on tape at the First Avenue benefit show in 1983.
Most bands & artists moulded themselves from The Time. They had it all. They were the template for a hell lot of musicians.
Jesse scratchin the hell of of that guitar 🔥🔥🔥
This is what you call the chitlin circuit for them. They went on to bigger and better things! RIP Prince!
Omg These Dudes were Dressed for the Part . NOT THUGGISH !!!!!
Moriss was a show man and equally handsome. He controlled crowd and had a stage presence. Though prince was bigger, just like MJ
Prince is the winner not the other don't 4get who wrote the Time's music
ken hunter there’s no “winner” yes Prince wrote most of the Time’s material but credit still must be given to Morris all the same. he’s been dissed, mislead and ripped off by Prince and he shrugs it off and remains cool as a cucumber. that’s highly respectable in my book. cool cat. (all this being said I love Prince don’t get me wrong)
ken hunter Stop being a Prince Stan.
The Time Was Bad Back Then. Thanks To Prince Who Put Them Together.
They were the tightest band! March 12, 1982, Raleigh NC
One day after my birthday remember it Asif it was yesterday.wow.
This shit sounds so good.
Now all it needs is the audio & video to be remastered then it'll BE GREAT.
They made us walk those bodies didn't they, walk those bodies Time.777-9311 14 to 15 yrs of age what time to be a teenager.
YESSSSSSSSS
WHAT TIME IS ITTTTTT
This is why Prince used to kick them off bills! I hate to say it but I can see this killing the Revolution
Law Tann I worked with Fink and Brown Mark and played guitar with The Revolution back in 2016 after Prince passed. Fink confessed The Time used to put a foot in the Revolution's ass night after night that some nights it was hard to come out and follow them..lol..
Lawrence Tanner most def! Just look at J. Jam T. Lewis flawless productions and highly scored the multi platinums ... only Great producers musicians at this level can do/achieve! Word!
Both teams played hard my man. Both teams played hard.
Lawrence Tanner this is a fact. Jimmy, Terry and Jesse confirmed that Prince took them off the bill in NYC, LA, & Atlanta which were the biggest markets. The irony is they played for vanity 6 behind the curtain
don't 4get who wrote those notes?
Please any engineer specialist in image must to repair this jewel. Thanks so much for to post it.
saw them live at the horseshoe hammond indiana .. couple years ago ... nothing changed ... the 1980s were the fkn bomb !!!!
Off the hook still after all these years! Really cool to hear The Walk live. They don't seem to perform it live that often for some reason.
Pure genius in every possible way.
There is no other band imo. ❤️🔥❤️💜🙏
Damn. Just to think the highest selling album of all time came out a few weeks before this performance. Such a great time for music!
i am a diehard fan of the time
Man, this is entertainment right here
The days of the mighty house nans are over with
Tight! Damn Jesse!
I remember watching this on PBS in Detroit. AND recording this on my cassette recorder!!
AWSOME *. ONE OF THE VERY FEW SUPER GREAT LIVE VERY TIGHT BANDS *. I've seen them at least 4 times in person. Every Show is Unique *
💜💫💯💫💜Everybody Walk 🎸🎵🎵🎶🎼🎷🎷🎺🎻🎬📽🎵🎶1980's
Killed this 💜💜
my favorite song they sing Morris is so adorable
Damn! So Rare! I love it!
Wow...ridiculous! The Time was/is the real deal. Great performers and musicians.
LEGENDS
PRIME funk. I had been waiting for THIS. for a LONG time. now - where is the HI-DEFINITION version of this FUNK CLASSIC??? hup 2 3 4..
Time was nasty !!!!!!❤
I love their word play.
Sweet! Jimmy jam and Terry still in the band. 1999 tour probably in progress.
Prince would have just let them do their thing they would have dominated the 80s and beyond.
classic funky music
Thank you for this! I can't get enough live Time performances! I wish Prince had let these guys blossom into the mega stars they were destined to be. He was definitely threatened by the talent and charisma of THE TIME!!!
I agreeI Even though he put the whole thing together, his pettiness hurt what the group could have been.
ERIC F Prince himself said they were the ONLY band we was afraid of.
UNDFTDGordon True. But everything happens for a reason. I can't imagine my life without the team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis!!
Thank you!!! I posted the exact same comment on few of The Time's YT performances. There were people that thought that I was wrong for posting it. Yes! Prince has said on more than one occasion that The Time was the only band that he was afraid of.
ERIC F you're absolutely right 100%
HELL YEAH, MORRIS....BAND IS ANYBODY HOT 🔥...YOU KNOW WHY.... CUZ YA''LL SOO COOL..!!!
I had a crush on everyone in the band back in elementary and a naughty imagination😍
WAN NEF shame on u naughty girl.
CYNTHIA Brown they would have made ypu pregnant quick and move on their lives!
I see YOU don't have an imagination. #getoutyofeelings
Okwudili Ani i guarantee u that my being the age i was at the time would have only upset my mother concerning my pregnancy not me,especially if it was the one PRINCE.
So in the words of vanity you were in your own little nasty world
The definition of kool
Seen morris with Prince capitol center then it morris by himself Constitution hall i was lucky got a chance to see them both
Priceless!
I miss bands
Great stuff
Monte Moir looks cool as f... @2:41. Hahahaha
Gotta give props to Monte for going along with being the rhythmless comedy prop...LOL. Monte was a badass on those keys though. Respect...
Yesss!!!..
You had to be a TRUE MUSICIAN to play one of Prince's compositions
Thanks for sharing this. With all due respect to Prince(rip) I can see why he was being a dick kicking them off the bill in certain city's they were playing together...They were leaving Prince & his band in the dust back at this time ( pun intended).
who wrote the music?
Sound Like They Do On The Album... Greatest Band
Also Jellybean On The Drums..DAMMM!!!
You mean they sound like Prince & Morris on the album. They were not on the album.
This is part of where Mint get it from....
Andre Caldwell Exaclty
You do know they are all from the same area. Mint _ Stokley was very close friends with Prince.
funky fresh
This is alright, great performance.
Ready For The World can't stand to this!
Hey watch it now
I think RFTW tried to be like The Time and almost succeeded sound wise!
Sound wise yes style they had there own little thang
Shiiid RFTW was coming!!!!!!
It would certainly make for a good Verzuz battle
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎧🤩🚨
Listen to Jesse’s solo album “Bare my naked soul”. It rocks
Another Starr* production....
2010Gullwing .that's prince production
Wow, love it....
Jimmy jam said do the chilli sauce morris do the chilli sauce good god 🙏🏽 💯💯💯💯🤣😂😂😂😂
I was in high school talent show me and my friends dress up like the time I was Morris day yesssss
they were already a beast when they where Flye Tyme, but Prince turned them into a monster, dont get me wrong, theyre killing it, but his music behind them is made them legends
Ahhh, you forget, they wouldn't have been able to use their name " The Time " nor use the songs which were written by, or co-written by Prince. So, that's why they couldn't do what you've stated.
actually they could have, they toured as Morris Day and the Time for years and played all their old material, Prince basically just would not let them use the name to record new material under. I saw them in NYC years ago and they were using it, the only original members at the time were Morris, Jelly Bean, Monte and Jerome, then all the original members got back together and recorded their new record un the name" the original 7". I read in a recent Morris Day interview, that looking back, he thought Prince made the right decision in not letting them use the name the Time to record under.
JESSE JOHNSON!!!! 💯🌟💎🎤👽🎸🔥💣
H0RD4K-SK3LET0R MUMM'R4-MEG4TR0N Ab-F%#gSolutely! J. J. Is a monster! So M. Day & the whole band! Simply the Minneapolis sound was/is Prince, The Time, Andre Cymone ... all big fam... no one to lessen... if u down with the Minneapolis Sound? Then you should be in for it and for all of the responsible ones! Funk!
