Can we all agree that his pond analogy was Good asl. I understood exactly what he was saying! You just earned a sub for that👍

@@sebastianrosenbach7873 6:20
Unironically the most straightforward and simple analogy I've ever heard on the topic.
I bought the Sub 6 for it's real estate size and to add some bottom to my Vanatoo TO speakers. It is a sexy little beast in white. I don't know much, but I do know that combo is the best sounding computer speakers I've ever owned. I call myself a barnyard Audiophile. I strive for the best in my price range.
Its 160 rn on amazon debating on buying it
@@TheRealPunisher 6 months later, no regrets. Nice price there.
@@teleguy5699 thanks for the reply mate
@@TheRealPunisher happy shopping!
@@TheRealPunisher i just got the white for 139 on amazon price is nice
"And then crawl around, like she's crawling around on all 4's"...
Ok ok *clicks the wallpaper link*
What program do you use to catalog all your movies?
Crutchfield just put these on sale for $199. I am in 11x12 room I think this will be just fine. Also since this video is released they have upgraded the amplifier on it.
The reason the small 6" sub plays too much high frequency information, even when set on its lowest crossover frequency, is because the slope of the built-in network is probably way too gradual--like maybe 6db/oct. This could have been easily remedied by programming the low pass filter in the Mini DSP to a much steeper slope like 24db/oct.--Also, crossing over a very small speaker at 42hz is way too low--because of crossover slopes--even at 24db/oct-- it will still pass signals well below the crossover frequency. IMHO, a crossover frequency of 80hz or even 100hz would be much more appropriate--especially if a complementary high pass filter is programmed in the DSP unit. I am sold on this concept as it siphons off the low frequency "slam" to the sub which greatly clarifies the mid range of the upper units and also has the benefit of increasing the power output of those units while decreasing distortion. That's the beauty of the Mini DSP--infinite programmability.
I'd like to see a double blind A/B test with 80Hz crossover to satellites vs. 100Hz. I wonder if most people would be able to tell?
Nicely put, also the miniDSP has 48db per octave LR filters. I don’t understand why he’s setting the sub crossover all the way down and also setting the lpf in miniDSP. IMO set the sub crossover as high as it goes to get it out of the picture and only use the LPF on the miniDSP.
@@SpencerPPyne You're exactly right
I got Sub6 for $140 on Amazon, should be one of the best in price range considering.
yeah same here pretty stoked
Thanks for the sub crawl info, never heard of that before and thought I would need a Dirac/rew mic or similar
You still do
the bass crawl give you basically the best position with the least severe nodes; so yes, a flatter response. however, in a room, you always need dsp and measurement mic if you are actually serious about the set up. i have to second zeos' advice, get a mini dsp and go from there. even you buy the flattest speakers, the room will alter their response.
Idk if that was intentional but today is Neon Genesis Evangelion's anniversary lol
TO Z - so the crossovers don't work - that's fn horrendous LOL , so to summarize the 8, it sounds OK ish, it's too expensive for the performance it offers and not fit for purpose due to a bad crossover? Mate, come on, how about telling people how it is, HARD PASS ?? I just bloody ordered one of these... Can you recommend an alternative for AROUND the same price? (I am from the UK so this was £289)
Paul from PS audio recommended to sent full range signal to the speakers and use a sub at the point where speakers can‘t naturally do Bass anymore without any crossover on speakers. What do you think about that?
It's a really good idea. Midrange is a huge part of the audio spectrum and giving it a little extra oomph is the way to go. Splitting the sound with a crossover makes the audio come from multiple points and our brains notice and regardless of which can do bass better it doesn't sound right so yea a sub should supplement a speaker not do half the work.
That's how my bedroom is set up. I have a pair of NHT Super Zero Xu's which only go down to 80Hz, and roll off as an acoustic suspension speaker does. I think it works well.
I think you can get significantly better integration by having a hpf on the mains instead of just targeting the acoustical roll off of the mains
@@SpencerPPyne Yes of course, but by using the box physics and adjusting levels, I get integration for $0!
This is how I've always ran my system with my "big" floor speakers & subwoofer. If my mains have 4 8" woofers that play to 40hz,and I cut them off at 80 Hz....say my sub is a 12"..I would be losing alot of cone area just to use the sub, now in the car I definatly HP crossover my front stage & rear fill.
So the white one is 6” and the black one is 8”... guess my ex girlfriend was better at math than I thought!
That was funny. 😂
Great review, i was looking at the sub on their site and i had some concerns. looks like you validated my hunch. Thanks!
Concerns ?
For a desktop system, my $65 Monoprice 8" sub is just fine. They have another 8" sub w/ 200w for $95.
Which of the subs you got? The one with the two front ports?
I don't know how cool my desk setup is, but it's livin' large, baby! ADS L810's powered by the Emotiva a-100 and their PT-100 preamp/DAC and an SVS PB-2000 for sub duty. I swap in an Adcom 555 sometimes just to remind myself of how good it sounds. But, the L810's are 94db efficient so the Emotiva gasses them up just fine, plus the uber-powered headphone output is a big plus.
Thanks for the post. Enjoyed the video, had a good laugh at the rants and learned an awful lot about subs. You had the easiest explanation for the the phase switch I've ever seen/heard. It isn't a difficult concept yet nobody has ever taken the time to explain it.
Alternative use for Kanto Sub 6: get a pair put a 6 inch or 6.5 inch coaxial speaker in them, make them passive, BIG KANTO BEN!
Kanto, YU no do?
TUKs with Sub8 are fantastic!
She's not doing the sub- crawl. It's pretty normal to hear some voice in a sub because of the db roll off in the octaves. Try nixing your DSP and see what happens. Play it from the back of the amp only.
Epos Epic 1 bookshelf speakers, Outlaw Audio M8 sub, Denon receiver retired from other setup is my desk setup. Sounds huge in the smallish room.
Wait so the frequency that we’re all been looking for is 42 so you telling me the meaning of life is the answer
i'd say turn the subs crossover as high as it goes and do all the crossover with the minidsp
Thinking more and more that the idea of well designed passive radiator is way to go.I am a music non- HT person so sealed appeals to me (that Kanto 8" looks like it could do nicely for a cheaper office system). But REL subs have the passive and the Buchardt S400 seems to do well with one.Want to see more.Another fine review Z
I have the sub-8 and the Kanto Yumi's in gloss white. Love them...
The 8” Dayton sub seems like a far better deal. (I already own an 8” Velodyne sealed sub. Basically great for acoustic music and jazz.) "There's still vocals in there" -- the slope on subwoofer filters is usually 6db/octave or 12db/octave. Of course you're still going to hear vocals! Let's say the bass notes are around 40-80Hz, and you're getting those at 80db. With 6db/octave, you'd expect the singer to still be around 62db, which is still as loud as quiet conversation! Also, if you go too crazy with filters that fall off too precipitously, that entails a different kind of distortion.
I got my 8" for about $150 USD for a special deal. So I think its worth for what it is!
Where did you get this deal?
@@jonch25 It was a one off because they stuffed up my order!
@@superghostfresh9095 damn that's super lucky! I really want the 8'' but I don't want to spend that much money for a small sub. I might just settle for the 6'' since it's for my computer desk setup...
theyre like 150 now on amazon
@@handrewmillan4293 hell yea! Imma tell me friends
Considering that you can buy SVS PB/SB 1000 for 500 bucks, they are hard to justify.
a 12 inch sub is not what you want on a desk.
The sub6 is not made anymore and they only make the sub8 now as a revised model for 2022. I wonder how the sub8 of old versus the 2022 sound like. I have not found any videos on the comparison.
this is from chatgpt:
1. Improved Amplifier: The Sub8 was upgraded with a more efficient Class D amplifier, offering better power management and performance stability. This allows for more consistent bass output with lower distortion.
2. Enhanced Crossover Controls: The updated model included more precise crossover controls, allowing users to better match the subwoofer with different speakers for a more cohesive soundstage.
3. Refined Cabinet Design: The Sub8’s cabinet was reinforced to reduce vibrations and resonance, which contributes to a cleaner and more accurate bass response.
4. Connectivity Enhancements: The 2022 model featured improved connectivity options, including a more robust RCA input and additional settings to optimize the subwoofer’s integration with various audio systems.
5. Auto Power On/Off: The auto power feature was refined for more reliable activation and deactivation based on signal detection, improving energy efficiency.
the issue isn't the frequency, it's that it does not have a high enough slope on the crossover.
It's like you said in one of your previous videos, 6" isn't small it's just average.. but 8" wow that 2" inches make a world of a difference.
If you ask any girl out there.... an extra 2 inches can make a whole lot of difference....
Not saying anything, but just saying
I have to admit, it was one of the better reviews of last time, despite there's no kitty cat material.. and yes. It's a miniDSP review over all, but cmon, that is a pro, cause i want one now!
I really enjoy your videos. your energy is contagious and after watching them i want to go buy a lot of audio shit!..... like immediately. Keep up the good reviews and the comedy.
Hey, the world is missing your review on the presonus subs, especially the new sub8! Are you thinking of reviewing that anytime soon? I'd like to listen to your thoughts before I purchase.
_Somebody_ doesn't have a clue what "-6 dB" means, or what a crossover does. It ain't a brick wall, and that's a good thing, since a brick-wall filter does mean, nasty, ugly stuff to phase/time-domain relationships.
i need your advice please i recently purchased a subwoofer for movies and gaming .. i place it in the center just underneath TV .. what crossover and phase should i use?
i saw many videos and never understood
its a NZXT Relay Subwoofer
thanks
Great video Zeos. Thumbs up. A sub MUST have an F3 of 30 Hz or less in my book. After hours of research here's my list of recos based on price.
BIC America F-12 - $209
Polk HTS 12 - $299
HSU Research VTF-1 MK3 - $399
RSL Speedwoofer 10S - $449
REL HT/1003 - $498
SVS SB1000 - $499
Lots of great woofers above $500 at Outlaw Audio, SVS, HSU, REL and Monoprice. Always plan on going dual subs even if you only start with one.
I have the kanto TUKs and the Sub8. Is a sub splitter really worth it?
I listen to hip hop and jazz
The FLIRC guys should give you shares, as should the Door Stop Guys to Darko. I am saving for my optimal desktop setup, will include a FLIRC.
I had the TUK's and the 8 sub and sold them i am now having sellers remorse lol i may try the ORA 4's with a 8sub mind you the tuks are on sale right now for 799 ( canadian ) 579 ( US ) mmmmm what to do ? or do i go with the SWANS OS 10's this is all for my computer in a 10x8 foot office nice review by the way cheers from Canada
how do these compare to the Bic Acoustech PL-200 II's or even the BIC F12's?
Kanto, send this guy a Matte gray setup!
Sorry, I'm a newbie, could a sound measurement device, like the ones used for the IK Multimedia's, be used to measure optimum placement of a sub?
Maybe but crawling around is free and you get the whole picture
I've seen the videos on the miniDSP, but i'm still a bit unclear on what it is. Is it an alternative or an addition to a DAC?
It is a DAC that also functions as an ADAC. Primary reason to use it is for application of DSP correction and crossover
depends on which minidsp you buy. Depending on the model you will get different type of inputs and outputs.
I buy a Martin Logan 400. Get up in the morning, and this video pops.
Think I still did well, and got a great deal. Keep doing your thing.
I just bought a Martin Logan dynamo 400. It sounds great while I'm at my desk but when I walk away it's very boomy I wonder if that is because it's ported. I'm using it with the new Kanto ora speakers at my desk.
How do you like the 400 so far
@@JASONJAMESMARTIN It is working well - Placed under desk. Using Vanatoo Zero speakers
That sub must have a very simple low pass filter maybe just a first order at a 6 db/octave slope. This means even with the crossover set at 40hz at 80hz the signal is only down by 6db and at 160 hz it would only be down 12db. But listening to the sub in this video it sounds like the crossover is even higher than that, at 40hz it sounds more like its crossed over at 80hz at a 6db slope. This is done to save costs, a 6db/octave filter only requires one inductor and a higher crossover point means you can use a smaller inductor which is cheaper.
Is the FLIRC-programmed remote paired with the iLouds or with the miniDSPHD? I'm hoping it's the latter b/c I have the iLoud Micros, and their volume is on the back and there's no USB slot.
Terrible analogy of the pond ripples jk. Funny tho. Still like the video tho. I'm still learning on how to get best sounds out of whatever size subs for my car and home. Good job
But, how would they sound with the Yu4, what they were meant for?
I wanna know too!
@Z Reviews Have you thought about getting your Subs vinyl wrapped in the colour and finish you want? Not sure if that would effect the sound coming out of them, though.
can kanto yu6 comply with other subwoofer brands?
Yes
The kanto 8 inch and 6 are designed to be paired with their kanto yu6 bookshelf speakers they work in unison when paired for even sound
I'm still running the extinct Corsair SP2300 PC Speakers.
This stuff is basically competing with the dayton sub-800 (an 8 inch that costs 89,99) or the monoprice 12" (that costs 135,70 on amazon right now). Granted, those don't really go below 40Hz, BECAUSE 8" IS TINY FOR A SUB and monoprice ... stops at 50 Hz? wtf?
And price for price, they would compete with the 12inch BIC acoustech PL-200 that does 22 Hzf or around the price of this 8 inch, but is huge. Or the Yamaha 10 inch subwoofers which go down to 25 Hz for the conventional ported and 30HZ for the SLIM ported sub you can just put under stuff.
One second review - EVA OST = LIKE
Have you tried it using optical into the YU6 and then connect the sub?
Anything else decent for less than $300?
Just got my sub 8 for 200 and yu6 for 300 I can't wait for them to come in
4 months later..... so how was it?
Zeos reviewed the PB-2000 and said it was too large for a bedroom/desktop setup and he was right. Not for being too big, but for the room modes making it a full null zone.
dual pb or sb 1000 instead
eh, I have a hard time accepting any subs under 8 Inches...
any recommendation with a 1/4 cable dsp system? im using a symphony desktop and want to keep the signal balanced
How do I use multiple reciever with the same subwoofer? Is there a switch available? Can someone share a link?
I like the way you calibrate sub excellent
Sold on the sub and dsd hd for my tiny room, but do I match with ilouds or tuks for desk/ nearfield?
I don't understand the need for DSP. I thought the receivers cut off the frequency being sent to the speakers and sub already?
Yes, but he’s not using a receiver on his desk. But you could.
Dumb question I am sure but what do you do for a multi sub crawl?
Porsche gauge cluster is sweet
Can use full range signal with this kanto sub?
If you really want an 6 1/2" or 8" sub in gray just let me know . I do some homebuild subs and would make you a gray one or any other color .
Would you recommend the Kanto Sub6 for a 12X16 room?
Just ordered a Sub6 for my YU4's, should I have gone with the Sub8? Here it was approximately 150$ more. My room size is about 10 M^2 (108 square foots)
you should be good, how u liking it?

what's ported?
Look into the Andrew Jones Pioneer SW8MK2 sub. 8" 100W ported. Sounds pretty good and it's cheap. Look for a sale.
the moving thumbnail is really very addictive.
These are actually great value
Those REL's cost an arm and a leg. These are the cheapest fully sealed 8 inch sub. Not really a fair comparison.
@@kamilkashaf2766 I know and to be honest now i think about it these may be closer to it. I dont personally own a REL anyway. Although the T Zero can be got for a similar price to these in UK. I think this 8 inch might go deeper so i dont know what i was thinking when i wrote this comment lol.
@@Jordonater The T0 probably compares more to the smaller 6 inch sub here, but considering the fact that the 8 inch Kanto's are both sealed and front firing, it looks like they took a leaf from REL's design philosophy. The 8 inch one's are likely more comparable in size/performance with REL T7i's instead, which are not a budget sub.
@@kamilkashaf2766 Yes your right

Where are you guys finding the basx 8? I can't find any since emotiva discontinued it. :-(
The sub 8 price is digging into lower end SVS territory....for another $200 you can get the PB-1000 and get way more sub for the money overall
As someone who uses Jamo C103’s in my home theater, I don’t think a 6 or 8 inch sub would benefit me too much.

how to give your audience motion sickness
I love kanto's speakers (using a set of YU4s on my desk), but the subs are a hard pass. I'm using a dayton sub1000 with my YU4s until I save enough for a rythmik/svs/hsu.
why hard pass? are they no good?
@@helsonly722 Not terrible, but you can get a much better sub for a bit more money. They're good subs, just not a good value.
SVS often has outlet sales on their subs; you can save some cash on a sub with a cosmetic blemish. IIRC same warranty as new.
@@NWGR i live in canada so getting SVS is harder and more expensive. But im just looking for a sub to compliment my kef q150. This will be used at my desk. Do you have any recommendations?
@@helsonly722 If you want to just get a decent sub that will hold you over while you save/decide on a premium sub, the dayton subs are very good. I still use a dayton sub1000 under my desk and it does the job just fine. Monoprice makes some nice budget subs too. There's other channels that have reviewed a ton of subs, those are worth looking into. I'm not well-versed in canadian shopping, so I'm not quite sure what's available up there.

Do a review of the fostex pmsub mini
Thank you Zeos, I've had my eye on these for a long time! The 8in (in Matte Grey, too!) used to be on Amazon US for $220 new. Then they raised their prices, probably because Kanto is getting more popular?
As I expected, it does the job and looks great, but there is a reason 99% of cheap subs are ported, and there are better values out there.
Kanto is a good Canadian company, however for the price you should get a 1/4 oz baggie of BC Kush enclosed with your warranty.
Cheap and supposedly better, the Sony SA-CS9!
