my dad knew Green Day back when they we're Sweet Children. first saw them play late '87 or early '88. he met up with the band after the show (you could do that back then since it was just a local gig thing). and he became cool with all of the guys. when 39/Smooth came out Billie gave my dad a cassette. nothing fancy, it was just a blank cassette with the album on both sides. My dad labeled it later. and know I listen to it to this day.

i like it that not many people are watching them , This proves that they're not performing for the much views , they do it just for punk rock to love :)
Life Is Good, You Should Get One Yeah, it seems like most don't know what to think. "Where did my 80s hair metal go?" They're literally witnessing a legendary band in the making and don't even know.
Would love to have one of those "original" $5 records/tapes! They would be a collectors dream! Just the nostalgia too! Awesome footage1 Takes me/us back in time! :)
looking at all these old videos of Green Day is mind blowing. all these people watching them perform back then never would of thought they would make it big. and they did! and even got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! awesome band! I grew up listening to them!
These last two songs are so amazingly performed. I watched all these PVHS videos over this past summer completely baked and it was one of the best things I've ever seen/heard. Truly amazing, sober and high that is actually, still listen to these songs all the time.
I have seen all the videos from start to finish and have noticed that in the first video had almost no audience, but was gradually reaching people, and look at the end, almost the whole school was there!!! this is proof that Green Day was really a very good band from beginning to end ... Green Day forever!!
i see this video and i think: wow, nobody watching this show and so many people in the show in London 2005. This is the true dream, became reality. Congrats Green Day. Brazil fan
james kilpatrick truth! Perfect example of underground local band that made it BIG. BJs style and voice, and the way they sound make most of their music catchy af.

hehehe that's so god futhermukin' damn true! As for the Dry Ice part, it take BALLS of cast iron to pull that sort of thing off in front of your high school. I must have had the shit beaten out of me by the football team for playing that sort of thing! ;) The pounding was so hard I can't recall the show. I only remember it years later, thanks to PTSD :)
Noble the Heathen For real.....and just to think, I was in 8th grade when this was filmed and going to school just a little north. If I had only known...

I really wish to be part of that crowd :(
Nothing like nostalgia for something you never experienced eh? :)
Love how loud Mike's bass is here!
He fucks up on the first chorus. You can see Billie smiling.
it is so goooood
I'd do anything to be there that day
seriously who the fuck are you. I swear I see you comment on like 90% of the videos I watch. you have good taste in music though
Well, if the context of your comment is true, then whoever the fuck he may be, I'm sure you'd both make a perfect friendship
This is why we need time travel ;)

i like it that not many people are watching them , This proves that they're not performing for the much views , they do it just for punk rock to love :)
If you want to see a punk audience, watch them play at Woodstock '94 xD

my God, all those kids are now older than 40...
The time is a bitch :/

Those kids don't know how lucky they are
They played at the high school they went to so all those kids were their classmates
2:50 She looks like she's really enjoying it.
She looks like fibi from Friends
OMG! My cousin went to that school when they performed! AWESOME!
the dry ice solo was sick!
Tré wasn't theeereeeeee, he wasn't theeeeeeeeereeeeeee. XD
El Sobrante was there! El Sobrante is very good drummer too.
NO, Sobrante sucked balls. Look at the end of Paper Lanterns or every end of songs.
Um, that is still the drummer from Isocracy
@@argentinianidiot nope. Dumb answer. Creativity is more important than talent.
so is it
Back then when the bass was louder than the guitar
i like how in the end everyone breaks their shit and billies all like "this is my guitar, i aint doing that shit"
This is my mom's legacy
On this Day, It's been 22 years since This performance... THEY HAVE COME A LONG WAY! that means they've been a band for about 24 years!
Now its 33, just insane.
7:08 BILLIE WHAT ARE YOU DO-- DON'T EAT THE MIC
phew
I love how Billie says that they have a record for sale. Five bucs!
I like how there's only ONE person @ 2:50 who is into it
She is so cute, maybe first Green Day fangirl ever lol
what i would give to have had the pleasure of attending this show.

I think at 1:08 when they say I was there you can kinda hear John
Is it me or do Billie and Mike look like Bill and Ted from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?
amazing film
greenday103921guns hah yeah! Billy could totally pass for Bill S Preston, Esq.
And Mike with all that hair...sure
Theyve been qouted saying they wanted to be the wild stallions so mightve been on purpose
They look more like Bill and ted from Bill and teds bogus journey
hmm! ive seen this performance footage many times but not this particular clip, i like how they pan to the audience.
Can we get some love for John Kiffmeyer

I wonder how many people in the crowd were thinking "Yeah, these guys will never be famous. Not in a million years."
Penguincamp truth. Shitty crowd
Love it! The lyric "I was there"... not many people can claim that! Lucky you lot in that tiny audience!

oh my god I love these videos so much. brings back so many memories.
WYLD STALLIONS!
They started like this and they are going very good!! i love them!
definitely two of my favourite Green day songs.
I love Johnny Kiffmeyer's open handed drum style. He played so smoothly.
How the fuck does it get any better than this?
Theguy who filmed this rocks
I rediscovered I Was There recently and I forgot how much I fucking love it. They should bring this song back in their regular sets
Dry Ice has the greatest guitar solo among all Green Day songs. It's literally fire 🔥
2000% its perfect
Como diria Martí Mcfly "ustedes no estan preparados para esto, pero a sus hijos les encantara"
Unreal quality!

Looking back upon my life and the places that I've been
Pictures, faces, girls that I've loved, I try to remember when
Faded memories on the wall, some names I have forgotten
But each one is a memory, I look back on so often
I look into the past
I want to make it last
I was there
I was there
I look into the past
I want to make it last
I was there
I was there
Looking back what I have done, there's lots more life to live
At times, I feel overwhelmed, I question what I can give
But I don't let it get me down or cause me too much sorrow
There's no doubt about who I am, I always have tomorrow
I look into the past
I want to make it last
I was there
I was there
I look into the past
I want to make it last
I was there
I was there
Looking back upon my life (on my life)
Faded memories upon the wall (on the wall)
Looking now at who I am (who am I?)
I don't let it get me down (I don't let it, get me down)
Looking back upon my life and the places that I've been
Pictures, faces, girls that I've loved, I try to remember when
But I don't let it get me down or cause me too much sorrow
