  • Doing farmer's walks with DIY equipment!
    So, today I decided to make myself some weights for farmer's walks and weighted carries. You don't need a huge budget to get fit! Heck.. you can probably do this for less than i spent by looking around for free and cheap parts online in your area and construction sites! This video is mostly about making a couple things. As i progress, I'll do more videos about how to do the walks and other exercises. Stay tuned...

    I love stuff like this....easy to make, inexpensive, and wholly as effective as "store-bought" stuff. Great idea, Jon......Thanks for a great video!

    Good video. The heaviest dumbbells I have are 50lbs which isn't enough but I didn't want to spend a bunch of money and was looking for a good homemade solution. This looks like it would work great. Thanks man!

    Great idea! Old milk jugs filled with water, sand or even concrete will work as a lighter alternative. Then you can build up to this if cinder blocks are too much to start.

      Depends on your current capabilities. My daughter does the single cinder blocks well. 40lbs isn't that much to start out with if you just start out with shorter distance and build that up.

    Love the setup. I think you can use pipe flanges on the end to stop the blocks from falling off thank you for for the help

    Went right out, and picked up four blocks, and cut some conduit that I had in garage for handles.

    gonna do this for my home workout since I wont be at the gym anytime lol. I am gonna do the same using the pipe and 2 cider block but I will cement the pipe to the block to avoid any risk of it falling. Thanks for the video I am gonna document this whole process on my new youtube channel i just started here.

    This is cool, i thought about filling a 5 gallon bucket full of concrete and getting a handle of some type and letting it dry within the top of the concrete.

      Yep! That would work too. My only concern was the bucket hitting my legs when walking. I hope to build a cradle for each side soon that I can add weight to as needed.

    That's a really good idea! If you wanted to vary the exercises up a bit you could try lifting them up to shoulder height, doing weighted flies with them...much better than using smith machines! You could also use a long piece of steel bar to make a barbel. That would give you more options to target more muscle groups. Just have to find a way to make sure the blocks don't slip off.

      Yep! We'll be showing that kind of stuff soon too 😁

    That was really smart actually. Add to the fact that the weight is not stabilized it makes it harder.
    Do you think if you wanted to add more cinder blocks you could get a longer pipe?

    • @unclejonssoap
      @unclejonssoap  2 роки тому

      It should work. The only issue is keeping the blocks on the pipe and not slide off. Maybe a locking collar at each end of the pipe? Definitely doable though.

    cinder block is ok if you do not plan to get any stronger then the weight of these blocks

    • @Uncle_Jon
      @Uncle_Jon 4 роки тому

      Actually,you can add more blocks, and weight to each block. Everyone gotta start somewhere and 4-6 cinder blocks will last most people months before they outgrow them...lol. At that point, there are other things that can be made.

    How long of a chain did you use?

    • @unclejonssoap
      @unclejonssoap  4 роки тому

      I think it's about 24 inches. Longer is better so you can adjust the grip as needed.

    • @gregoryshaw5809
      @gregoryshaw5809 4 роки тому +1

      Uncle Jon's DIY and Outdoor so 24 inches each. I definitely going to give this a shot. I have cinder blocks at home I used for a make shift plyo box. I have since built my own plyo box now I have 6 cinder blocks with no use

    what kind of chain is that?

    • @unclejonssoap
      @unclejonssoap  5 років тому

      When you go to Lowe's or home Depot, look for the hardware section. Then, I just picked one that I knew would be strong enough. It's smaller links than the plant hanging chain but way thicker. They will cut it by the door for you. I think I got a 2 foot length for each hand.
