that awkward moment when you order something off space amazon and it arrives two regenerations late... #relatable
Yeah, that bit after rebooting the universe with that Pandorica and he says he can buy a Fez. That fez took over a millennia to arrive...
@@Destrark151when you think many doctors are in the same time through tardis flying everywhere maybe the fez didn't arrive late
It just arrived in the wrong tardis
I like how the system wanted to appoint the Doctor to cleaning where Charlie works but she thought she knows better.
And when a Kerblam give a compliment to the Doctor...
"Ryan Sinclair and the Doctor, great name!"
That just when through my head...
@@azizuladnan2957 I dont get it
@@TkOHarley14 Kerblam compliments her. That's been a sign of a conscious system. If they are just a machine, there would not been such thing as compliment in thier system
@@azizuladnan2957 OHH I thought you were quoting The Doctor herself
@@azizuladnan2957 But machines can be programmed to say anything, a compliment would only be noteworthy if you know for a fact it wasn't programmed with manners, which they obviously were in their line of work. So I can't agree.
This was the fez that matt Smith's doctor ordered a few seasons ago. Just now arrived. Great callback
11 should have used Prime.
What episode did Matt order it?
I thought it was just implied that 11 ordered it we didn’t actually see him do it
@@jakeoliver9167 it was during the pandorica episodes where they blew up his fez and he said “i can always buy one”
Back when bubble wrap was new it used to appear as sci-fi fabric. (See the straps on snowspeeder cockpits. In Empire Strikes Back). There was an infamous episode of Doctor Who called The Ark In Space (great story btw big influence on Alien apparently) where large elements of a monster were bubble wrap painted green. Remember it was new and rare back then but now it is very noticeable. So Doctor Who and bubble wrap have a history.
The Wirrin! One of my favourite Tom Baker stories
I really want to see a scene where the 13th Doctor is in the recent past, doing whatever in a museum or vault associated with U.N.I.T. and the Black Archives, and comes across an empty display case. She stares at it for a second, then suddenly gets an idea and starts rummaging around in her coat pockets as the scene cuts away, then a few minutes later she's walking away from a display with a fez in it. No focus, no explanation, just a subtle confirmation that the 11th Doctor got his fez.
Aaron should have handed out bubble wrap to them after the episode.
'Kerblam' was definitely one of the better Series 11 outings. You can tell that Pete McTighe just gets how Doctor Who works. The references were cool, especially the fez which was nice but also advanced the plot. The guest cast were all solid in their roles and the design on the story overall from the robots to the various parts of the warehouse itself was visually stunning. A return to traditional Who with a slight dig at companies like Amazon and complete with a bubble wrap menace.
Yet people hated Praxeus, also written by McTighe.
(I personally liked Praxeus. And Kerblam!)
@@kwanarchive I thought Praxeus was ok. Never understood the hate.
Rhodri Williams you’re right; the doctor becomes a boot licker this episode compared to the chad capaldi in Oxygen
kwanarchive I think the hate stems from it not having a full blown alien in the episode as what people had thought advertised. The episode is also co-written with Chibnall so we didn’t get to see McTighe flex his writing more. I still have a strong belief he’s going to be the next showrunner after Chibnall completes his five year plan.
Ho boy, can't wait for Amazon to post a copyright claim against this video after that discussion XD
A rare occasion of Ryan remembering he has dyspraxia and Yaz remembering she’s a policewoman
hold on, is this the only time WE are reminded that yaz is a policewoman
@@israellai yep
@@israellai, nah as _"Resolution"_ does remember that as well.
I enjoyed the episode but Kira, man... Poor Kira. She didn't do harm to anybody and she's like dead and that's it. :/
That is why it's tragic the innocents generally get hurt in conflict. She was the most innocent.
Ikr? She was just making a bombs for that psychotic serial killer, she didnt deserve to go with him.
@@timwoods8297 She also didn't deserve to die. It's sad and truly tragic.
That’s one reason why The Doctor does what they do. To stop more people from dying the same way.
The system specifically chose Kira, in a last ditch effort to get Charlie to stop. Not just because of her innocence but because he liked her.
The message I got out of this episode is that humans are always looking at what else could destroy us such as robots viruses etc... but in reality what poses the greatest threat to humans is humans themselves. We are very self destructive.
See The Abomination on "Picard"
Charlie: Kills innocent people to make a point that robots are untrustworthy.
Robots: Kills innocent people to make a point and exploits their human workers.
The Doctor: "The robots are right"
I’m loving the discussions you guys have and really taking in what the episode is addressing and what it means for the real world. 👍
It’s a decent episode .. definitely feels like it would fit in well in the RTD era honestly .
I like the concept and the mystery is intriguing .. the supporting characters are fine if not all that fleshed out .
I do wish they had a line at the end that while Charlie’s methods were evil , he had a point and that Kerblam’s A.I isn’t that great either since it killed Kira to retaliate against Charlie .
I think you can make that assumption but a line or two would have helped clarify them making a mostly human workforce now
I forgot Lee Mack was in this. He's just a side character so doesn't get to show his comedic chops, but he is the fastest mind in comedy if you watch him on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and Would I Lie to You.
The System originally chose The Doctor for the maintenance because that's where the trouble was.
The foot pad that shane was talking about has been used in Australia at a store called Athletes Foot back since 2005
Worked at an Amazon warehouse for one day. Couldn't take the lifeless zombie-like feeling I got from the workers there. Only people that weren't dead were managers and HR. And I could tell that, behind the flowery language and nice-sounding benefits was a company that didn't care about you and just wanted to get you in the building working. (There was also no interview, just a basic organizational test and a drug test, and then they pushed me/us through orientation quick as could be).
Anyway, this was an interesting episode because of that background. I think the commentary in it on the work culture was definitely a side-note to the automation aspect, but still.
Lee Mack is quite hilarious and quick witted on Would I Lie To You.
I used to work next door to Boston Dynamics. They would sometimes test Big Dog out in the parking lot.
I don't know about anyone else, but for me, these past two episodes have had the most memorable soundtracks since Heaven Sent.
Dude, Twice Upon a Time
@dr103 yes but what was there was still awesome, I know where you're coming from tho
Kerblam and It Takes You Away were the only episodes in series 11 that felt like Doctor Who.
Rosa was great but didn't feel like Doctor Who, Demons of the Punjab definitely felt like Doctor Who to me, the Ghost Monument ish but it was still bad. Kerblam! felt like it was in the wrong era - this would have fitted into the RTD era, but the awful writing just didn't work.
Demons of Punjab was also fantastic
Demons of the Punjab did as well. imo the Jodie Chibs era starts getting better with Resolution.
You were talking this episode about if we would make advancements if we didn't have to work. If you look at history, you are right that many of the great periods of scientific advancement have come from war, but there have also been periods of advancement that came from societies that didn't need labour. In the latter case it is usually not only scientific advancement but also cultural and academic (e.g. mathematics, psychology, philosophy). For good examples of this we can look at ancient greece, rome, the byzantine empire and the renaissance.
bubble wrap bomb... I would die 100% of the times as I pop those bubbles every single time.
Doctor Who: Don't blink! Don't breathe! Don't think! Don't pop bubble wrap! I'm sensing a trend...
I like their talk about war being the best boost for economy. War boost economy is similar to a adrenaline rush we get under danger, is a response to some extreme situation, so of course it will have the most drastic effect, but the other side effect it brings is often ignored under some discussion. I stayed on this channel because they are really good at start talking about IRL problems from shows they watch, and its really brings more depth to the reaction in additional to us love seeing them geeking out about the show we loved
I think what makes this episode stand out from most of DW eps in recent years is the discussion like you guys have at the end. Doctor Who used to make us think about a lot of things in everyday life from “outside” perspective (imaginative sci-fi what-ifs). RTD era touched on emotional retrospective way-of-life side. Early Moff on popular sci-fi/philosophy side (ontology, metaphysics, nature of time). It moved to contemporary political ideas in series 8 (and is staying there) but it mostly lacked clarity or depth. This ep is however a good exception imo.
Apart from the fact that the episode makes kablam innocent in the doctors eyes even though it kills an innocent girl to send a message and it poorly treats it’s staff the doctor defends the company and blames the employees?!?!
@@littleratboyeExactly this episode goes against what the doctor stands for.
Having the doctor say that the system isn’t the problem just a few bad people within the system that are the problem is insane.
I wouldn't say this is the BEST episode of the Season, but it is the one that feels the most similar to a proper Nu-Who episode. I could very easily see this playing out with any of the previous four Doctors, something about the narrative and the dialogue definitely felt a bit more like it was trying to fit in to the old groove, rather than the distinct new style of the Chibnall era.
I will say though, I think the messaging here was pretty confused. Like, the machines are putting everyone out of work and large swathes of the population are living in poverty. But on the other hand Charlies is clearly a villain and his plan to kill a bunch of people to increase human employment levels is evil, and the system tries to stop him... But at the end the factory owners decide to hire more people? Even after the system just proved itself to be way more reliable? But then again the system made the decision to kill Kira even though it really didn't need to, so the system is kinda fucked up in general... Fuck, the whole thing is just so tangled, I really have no idea what the theme is actually supposed to be lol.
I wouldn't call that confused messaging. I'd call that complex. A system that's making people miserable, and while most are just trying to get through life as best as they can, some of them turn to terrorism. Sure, the system is fucked, but murder isn't the solution. And yeah, sometimes people realize that while their system is efficient, it's creating an unbearable hardship and needs to be changed for the good of everyone.
I mean, I suppose compared to Moffat's two-dimensional themes of "this bad, therefore this good", it might seem a bit confusing, but if you think back on it, it's just the way real people work. It's not made up of either mustache-twirling villains or saintly heroes. It's made up of people who are all complicated and often conflicted.
@@ms_scribbles I like when fiction acknowledges complexity. This episode is moving up my ranking pretty fast.
I love Lee Mack. He's one of my faves.
Kaplan was its own show in action heroes now or action League now or something like that was the characters that you were talking about. There were a bunch of different miniseries within the kablam comic series TV show.
You guys should really look up the Channel 4 series Humans which is basically about a society where we all have AI servants and it's amazing.
Great Episode, i never figured out the "Villain"
Lee Mack was so good in this episode
How is it not one of you has a fez?
The quarantine right now shows that people want to be productive when they can't work
When they started talking about temperature, I took some time to remind you that you use farenhait. Until I realized 80 celsius would kill easy
fav episode honestly
I REALLY LOVE THIS EPISODEEE
(About stories) many companies are the same, my ex worked for a machinery manufacturer, a guy died after not having protective equipment in a spray booth and everyone was sent home for the rest of shift to put the correct equipment in place. Things were being fudged to meet targets and my ex was electrocuted. The conveyer to move the machinery between stations ran the incorrect direction, so they had to team up and push the machinery between stations resulting in my ex breaking his shoulder, he continued to play the game until they bullied him for not being able to do the heavy work because of the shoulder at which point he decided to sue and they magically fixed the conveyer. On his first day his trousers were torn and because they wouldn’t allow him to buy company wear since he was agency or leave at lunch to buy new trousers he had to spend all shift with his crotch out, assassins creed pants showing
Pizza Vans...self driving cars...killer robots...I wish you guys could finish Black Mirror :( even if it's straight to the website!!
It's actually better for someone to just be good at a particular kind of job and then become the best version of that and maybe moving up some but not much due to the fact that most people are promoted until they're no longer competent at their job... Either to the point where they get fired or to the point where they're good enough to not fire but not good enough to actually be good at their job.
So what's best is whenever you hire someone from either a different department or a different company all together and then have that person go through the different jobs so that they can have a full understanding of the company as a whole and then go to that position and yes it might be a much shorter time span like maybe 2 weeks at each position however it's enough to give them a brief understanding.
Imaging the world in which everything is automated (food production, delivery, transport, cooking, cleaning, other service industries) and wanting a job.
This episode was definitely the best out of Series 11, although the message fell flat and The Doctor killed a poor mistreated kid.
(Also, WHAT? Actualy deaths in Doctor Who? That normally never happens! (I swear, only 4 deaths have happened in Series 11 prior to this))
Hey, if anyone's interested, I'm reviewing all the Doctor Who stories on my channel, with me just having uploaded my review of: 'Planet of the Spiders (1974)!' No pressure, of-course; It just might be worth checking out! :)
In France, we work 6 days a week.
This is one of hte better episodes of this season, but I think the problem here is once again the villain is Just Some Fuckin' Guy. I think it could've been much stronger if they'd taken the "no classic enemies" stick out of their butts and made it so it was the cybermen masquerading as Kerblam delivery drones, perhaps in order to gain direct access to people to kidnap and cyberise on the sly.
"Work gives us purpose."
Boy I can't wait until the world grows up from that notion.
This is a fun episode but the message it ends kinda sucks? Like "corporations aren't evil, they just need a bit of a wake up call!". I mean, I agree with the vilain until he decides that the solution is "lets kill everybody". It feels kinda forced just to make him the bad guy, instead of someone who actually has a point. And after this incident things get better, so the way to a better world is to have a bunch of unsuccessful terrorist attacks somehow?
That's...almost exactly the opposite of what this episode is saying. I'm not sure where you got that the episode was telling people to attempt terrorism.
@@ms_scribbles The situation wasn't good before the terrorist attack, workers were still abused and made up an insignificant part of the work force, after the attempted terrorist attack, they decide to reorganize the workforce to be less reliant on robots and more on humans. Those changes were made in response to the attack, before that the position of the managers was "Yes it sucks, but what can I do?". The episode never tells people to attempt terrorism, but the story only reaches the "happy ending" thanks to the failed terrorist attack. That's why I said that the message is kinda bad, it doesn't portray voting or striking or any other kinda manifestation as the thing that leads to change, instead the catalyst for the improved conditions is the unsuccessful terrorist attack.
Thanks, Eric! Thanks, Shane! Thanks, Calvin! Thanks, Aaron! ⏳
If you like lee macks stories watch Would I lie to you hear his best stories.
That whole talk they had on automation and people losing jobs etc made me realise just how good of a game Detroit become human actually is. It literally tackles everything they talked about, it’s also really ironic Eric mentioned meth because that’s also a theme in the game lol.
I genuinely hate how inconsistent Jodie's Doctor was between stories about killing and sacrificing people. One time she is Timelord Victorious, other time she is a Silly Goofball or full on idiot. Like they are jumping between Tennant, Smith, Capaldi and some other incarnation constantly, without any plot or character integrity.
Clearly these are the same andriods from Star Trek as Data. They even have the same head tilt.
Can't wait for the next two episodes! I feel like It Takes You Away is gonna have a fun discussion. And then I CANNOT WAIT for the EPIC, BEST, FANTASTIC, MOST MEMORABLE, totally not boring, BEST DOCTOR WHO SEASON FINALE OF ALL TIME!
Thomas Gentile It wasn’t that bad. It was by no means spectacular, but it was at the very least average
Actually people who work in the tech industry have very much stated that they're giving the public sector the vast majority of the technology that the military has the only times it is limited to the military is when it's extremely dangerous.
Thirteenth doctor: fezzes are cool 😎
If you were able to pay your bills even if you struggle to do so pay for food and have a vehicle and pay for the gas to make it move and to at least keep the vehicle functioning then yes it does cover the cost of maintaining the vehicle however it also has to cover other things before it even gets to that point...
Lee Mack's great on Would I Lie to You
War does not happen out of necessity it happens out of greed for the people in charge and nothing else well sometimes oppression and necessity but for the most part it's just greed
Really interesting discussion
If any Brits here that have watched Coronation Street. I did not recognise Julie Hesmondhalgh at first. Mainly because I don't watch it. But my mother did and I was like who the hell is that! I know that face. After the episode I googled her and I was like oh shit!
Charlie: Kills innocent people to make a point that robots are untrustworthy.
Robots: Kills innocent people to make a point and exploits their human workers.
The Doctor: "The robots are right"
Starsky robotics has already test driven 18 wheelers without regulation for the gov or knowledge of the general public
This and witchfinders are probably the best episodes of this series
REACT TO BILL & TED PLEASE!! There is a 3rd one currently filming too!
If you want it, Blind Wave it.
We really should make them watch love, death and robots
This end discussion shows how much they need to watch Trek. XD
If you look at studies of places that are testing universal basic income a lot of people use that money as guarantee of ability to live inside and small creature comforts while also trying to work a job so that they can have a job of their own working for themselves one day have been ownership of a small business that they started from the ground up
The Doctor was supposed to go to mainrenance, because of her two hearts, but she switched with Graham.
And people after watching this episode didn't pop the bubble wrap in packages for a bit...
this an what Andrew Yang was warning us about in his campaign. #YANGGANG!!!!
"Ohhh fuck kill it" hahha
In the discussion at the end they were saying exacly what Marx was saying about capitalism being a snake eating it's own ass.
Kira and Twirly ❤
Some of these ideas are considered _idealistic._ But, that's really what you have to shoot for. You don't stop a good idea because of _the worst case scenario._ You put systems in place to address those as they come.
Imagine freeing up time for parents to be with their children. Perhaps fewer children would be raised by the internet / TV / Public Schools. And they would grow with more real world knowledge as they have more time with their parents.
Lee Mack tested positive for covid 19 the day this reaction was uploaded
Really?
Daisy Watcham yeah but I think he’ll be okay, he’s probably already over it
Having the doctor stating that the systems are not the problem, just the bad eggs in the system that are the problem is the least doctor thing I have ever seen.
I really like this episode but I find it strange that the bad guy achieves his goals? Is the lesson that terrorism is effective?
I love butter
Even if a warehouse operates at a loss even if it operates at a massive loss as long as the company in total is operating at a total net positive or on its way to doing so then it doesn't matter. Secondly feel free to look at the CEO / owners pay and see how much they get on an annual basis and then drop that down to a reasonably large income yes more than the average person however not hundreds or thousands of times the average worker...
And you'll find that oh yeah there's plenty of f****** money to pay them a living wage not just better than the average across the country because in 2019 if the minimum wage had kept up with inflation it would have been $20 an hour back then...
Before all this recent inflation.
I can't believe you only saw Lee Mack on the Norton Show. Have you NEVER seen the British TV Programme, 'Would I lie to you'. Here is the Link to S01E06 You'll like it... ua-cam.com/video/Svljl0kN2HE/v-deo.html
Oof. Hurts that they talked over and missed the Agatha Christie episode reference.
This episode is pretty divisive since it's good until the end where it falls flat on its face.
Just heard, Lee Mack has now got coronavirus.
ugh i love lee mack (dan)
Do a bill and ted reaction 😂
So Bill & Ted reaction on the way ?

I wish that Master is wrong about The Doctor being a timeless child. It better be Rassilon, or the master himself, or anyone else. That will just ruin doctor who for me. Also i hope Rassilon comes back and fucks up these cyber time lords
Also they better hire someone good for Rassilon, the last one was just an old geezer, he didnt have a sense of a supreme time lord to him.
Let me find out erick is yang gang
Tax the companies that use robots and use those taxes along with closing the other loopholes for the billionaires and billionaire companies to pay for universal basic income and that way you can get a small job on the side by taking a portion of your universal basic income and say making crafts to sell online or making paintings to sell online or taking your cell phone and making all kinds of beautiful photos and selling those online... Eventually you have enough money to start a small business and then have robots working for you that are taxed so other people can have universal basic income...
I miss fun doctor who
France doesn’t have 3 day weekends they’re just lazy and work less than everyone ( joking of course)
Lol

Instantly reminded me of ua-cam.com/video/y3RIHnK0_NE/v-deo.html
Please watch Bill and Ted!
Yeah that dude exaggerated like a motherfuker. I have friends who work in Amazon warehouses and yes they are dangerous conditions and yes people might die in these conditions however they are paid much better than that. Feel free to look up any Amazon job anywhere in the country and you cannot find any of them that are less than $18 an hour... And those are the ones that are in states where they have not increased the minimum wage at $7.25 an hour for the federal minimum wage still. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending Amazon however I am pointing out that Walmart is much worse and pays mostly in government taxes which means that everyone pays for their employees and not just the people that shop there.
awsome throwbak to the 11th doctor era
But with a better villain, i wold never figure this Goofy-Guy out
Shane hasn't seen bill and ted? Stop whatever the fuck your doing right this second and have that man react to the "critically acclaimed" Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Do it for the children...the Children!, won't somebody please think of the children!?
Do more arrowverse
The only good thing about this episode is Lee Mack IMO. I can't stand this series honestly. I love Jodie, as she's incredibly talented, but I just can't get with the writing or the new tone of the show. It just feels too overly-dramatised and lacks that fun, campy tone that's been present since 9, perfected in 10 and brought to the next level with 11. I adore 12 simply for Capaldi and some of the legacy characters, but his series were definitely the last gasp of what Who used to be.
I only hope that RTD brings Jodie back for a serviceable special in future, but even he seems to not be what he used to be and it feels like he'll only reinforce the changes made rather than undo them.
Look into elderly people who retire the ones who stay retired and up dying earlier than the ones to say find some sort of hobby or a part-time job are a volunteer position humans are designed to work not be lazy and do meth that comes from having nothing else to do they put rats and cages with nothing to do and drugs and I did the drugs however they put other rats in cages with drugs and something to do food and maybe a companion or two and they might have tried the drugs here and there but it wasn't really an addiction they didn't do all of the drugs they just tested them out and then we're like okay enough of that time for the hamster wheel.
I liked most they discussion than the episode
