The thing about Missy not getting a final goodbye with 12, is that she died with the intention to help the doctor without him knowing. She died without witness, without hope, and without reward.
I think she intentionally grabbed the doctor's hand so he could feel that small palm sized blade so he would know she had changed without letting Simm's master know. If you listen closely when she shakes his hand you can clearly hear a loud "metal on skin" clap! 12:53
@@docwho10th88 yeah back when the episode came out i noticed that but we never really got a definitive answer. though in my mind he did know missy was on his side, at least thats what i'm hoping and what i want to believe even though if he didn't it still makes sense as a final goodbye to the character (until he/she shows up again which i think is inevitable)
The first time we see Missy she's dancing around a field of flowers in "heaven"; the last time we see her, she's dying in a field of flowers, all alone, in what could only be described as "hell".
The tragedy of this episode is that, for all of the happily ever afters and fulfilled character arcs WE got to see, Twelve didn’t. Missy redeemed herself and he doesn’t know. Bill was revived and found her old water girlfriend, and he has absolutely no idea. He wakes up in the TARDIS wondering how he isn’t dead. And for him that’s the end of the story. Missy betrayed him, Bill is doomed to be consumed by the cyber-technology. His final stance was futile in his eyes. That is his burden to bear. This episode is absolutely magnificent.
Thing is... considering next ep and all, I don't think Bill survived? I think it's her afterlife because we see her as a Cyberman dying, but I think she physically died and only spiritually survived because of Heather. Just like Heather is technically dead, but "alive" because of the Alien water thingy in her. In my mind Bill dies on this episode, and that seems to be confirmed by the... glass people whatever they are. And Heather says "it's just a different kind of living"... so yeah, she's "alive" just like Heather is. Bill still died in that Cyberman tho.
@@MARYWTHER I thought next ep implied that Bill did survive, but, as with anyone, did eventually die much later, and Glass Bill was her preserved soul from after her real death?
@@pdtrx4900 Yes! But then the Doctors still help each other, and Masters kill each other. Because the Master is more polite, but far less trusting (not to mention more evil).
Capaldi's finest moment. This story sums up Peter Capaldi's Doctor so well. To me, he is the ultimate incarnation of the Doctor, embodying everything the Doctor has ever been and yet still brings across his own style. The speech he delivers was written for HIM, and, like 'Heaven Sent', there are only a few Doctors who could have articulated a speech like this so well with no music, and he's one of them. He’s not showing off, he’s just asking his old friend(s) for help and desperately trying to find the good in them, and Capaldi delivers his best performance. If David Tennant and Matt Smith felt like Doctors you could become best pals with, Capaldi's felt like a Doctor you could look up to and respect as a hero.
"If David Tennant and Matt Smith felt like Doctors you could become best pals with, Capaldi's felt like a Doctor you could look up to and respect as a hero." That was perfectly put.
I've felt something similar - I'm never going to say anybody is 'the best Doctor', but to me Capaldi felt like The Complete Doctor - almost as if this is him, all that he is, and some of the other incarnations were costumes he'd put on...
@@petersvillage7447 Same. Capaldi dresses like his Doctor in real life and I know he personally believes in being as nice and as kind as you can to people. Every fan that meets him always talks about how funny and nice he is. I haven't heard one bad report of a fan meeting Capaldi. He took the time to write a 9 yr old a handwritten letter because the boy was sad Capaldi was leaving the show. The guy was visiting Children's Hospitals for months and didn't want the BBC or the hospitals to leak it out that he was visiting because it wasn't about that for him. "He does what he does because it's right, because it's decent and above all it's kind. It's just that. Just kind." The lines blur with the 12th Doctor and Peter Capaldi.
@@antoniochasten3192 When Capaldi started in the role I was slow to warm to him, but always thought the quality of his performance was undeniable. But there soon came a point where, for me, he'd entirely occupied the role. I began to find myself wondering if I thought he was the very best... and I'm against the idea of selecting any as 'the best', just because... Hartnell is the godfather... and Troughton is amazing... and Tom Baker IS The Doctor, and so on - they all of them have their claim on the title. The way I ultimately saw it, though, was... Capaldi showed as the very heart of the character, like this is all of who the Doctor has always been, and he never quite showed it before. I've since realised this coincides with Vastra's lines in 'Deep Breath' where she suggests that the Doctor was finally showing Clara who he really was because he trusted her enough to let his guard down... but also the idea that Capaldi's Doctor returns to a number of times, that he's not really 'The Doctor' - he's actually somebody that we don't necessarily know, who has become caught up in living up to the high expectations of others who see him as 'The Doctor'. I suspect this take on the character may come from the experience of being a parent - of having somebody in your life who expects you to solve every problem and know ever answer, and feeling you have to live up to those expectations whatever your feelings on the matter.
@@petersvillage7447 I'd agree. Your comment reminds me of another line from "The Witch's Familiar" during the Doctor/Davros convo. 12 says "There is no such thing as the Doctor. I'm just a bloke in a box. Telling stories. And I didn't come here because I was ashamed. A bit of shame never hurt anyone. I came because you were sick and you asked. And because sometimes, on a good day, if I try very hard...I'm not some old TIme Lord who ran away. I'm the Doctor."
Hey Lovelies! I have been feeling all kinds of sad that I’m getting closer and closer to catching up with you all. I don’t know how many of you can tell but I got hit like a ton of bricks by a nasty cold throughout this reaction. So if my post-episode thoughts aren’t my finest, that’s because I felt like death. I hope you all love the reaction nonetheless.
I love your reaction. Couldn't wait til you saw the ending of this episode. Just as Matt Smith was your Doctor. I thought mine was David. The was before Peter Capaldi came my way and changed my order. Looking forward to your watching the Christmas show and Doctor Who December. The Take a big rest and a good vacation. Looking forward to your reaction to series 11 next year.
Missy's ending is the culmination the lines from Extremis: Without Hope, without Witness, without Reward. She chose to do what was right alone and died for it. I absolutely love her ending. This epsiode is absolute perfection. It's so beautiful and melancholy. I cried almost throughout. I loved Bill's ending too. I guessed in episode 1 that Heather would come back for her in the finale. Bill always seemed to represent Hope and that she loses it when she asks to die in this episode was heartbreaking, and I think she cries over the Doctor's body as much for herself (because the Doctor can't fulfill his promise to help her die) than the Doctor's death. She really does through the ringer in the Finale 2 parter and Heather is that last bit of Hope. I could talk about this epsiode all day but my thumbs will likely fall off!
"The Doctor Falls" is "The Caves of Androzani" of New Who for me. The Doctor knows he has no hope for himself, but he must keep his promise: never be cruel, never be cowardly. He will do the right thing, and God have mercy on the fool who tries to stop him.
In the previous episode: Let's let Missy be the Doctor and see how she does! This episode: Bill is a Cyberman, Missy is dead, the Master is as good as dead, The Doctor is as good as dead, Nardole is sent away. An entire army of cybermen are about to attack. Good job Missy, good job...
The last scene with Missy and Twelve might have something which can change everything: when Missy grabs the hand of the Doctor. The first time I watched I thought "oh, that’s an unusual way to grab someone's hand". BUT then I saw on the Internet a very good theory: she does that so the Doctor can feel the knife. She made him knew that she had to knock out the (other) Master before anything. Also, when the Doctor says that he doesn't want to regenerate makes me think about his first episode (again a saw this on the Internet, but I think you really should know it). In his first episode, when he says all the stuff about changing the stick and the brush. I think that his opinion about regeneration was already clear just after Eleven.
Dannie Madsen my favourite master has grey with white streaks on his beard. Also I literally just realised that professor yanas master did. But my whole point was the fact that my favourite classic master had dark gray hair and white lines on his beard. You should watch some more classics with the master in it.
All Things Paper what you said was Simm's Master looked like Classic Masters because of the beard, and all he needed was white hair dye, which none of the Classics had.
"I... will NOT... CHANGE!" Oh, Peter, i didn't want you to, either. Though i'm quite happy with the results at present. But we'll discuss that in December.
Just a little history, the point where the First Doctor appears is at the end of the first ever Cybermen story, which happened to be Hartnell’s final story.
@@Chiggins_ It's unclear whether the First Doctor died due to old age or due to Mondas draining the energy from the Earth, thus affecting the Doctor in some way? That hasn't been confirmed, but neither has the old age theory
@@alexcooke4856 I think it's more than that. When you consider the events of The Daleks Masterplan and The Celestial Toymaker, I think the events of those stories caused it, particularly at the climax of Masterplan when he was aged. That took a lot out of him and he felt even MORE drained and worn out after that than normal. Now yeah, that's partly cuz Hartnell was getting worse and the writers were accomodating that, but you can see in universe why that'd've been the start of it. It gives credence to the age theory. Mondas was like the nail in the coffin, the last straw. He was already dying, it's not the catalyst, but it did tip him over the edge
I cried for like two days when 12 regenerated. I’ve never been more emotionally connected to and invested in a Doctor before him. To me Peter perfectly portrays who The Doctor should be. I miss my grumpy space dad.
The last three episodes of Season 10, whew... God, and just one more. What a journey. There is a lot to look forward to next episode. Moffat went out on a really good note.
Wow, I don't know if I've ever seen you go full speechless at the end there! Mind blown! Haha. It's so wild to think you're just about all caught up now. What a journey it has been. Thanks for bringing us along 😊
I thought the same, but then remembered how upset she was throughout 11's regeneration, and realized that she might not have heard the words clearly enough to have them seared into her memory... (and I doubt she revisits the scene much!)
Sesska wasn't well. Her cold and sore throat started before her reaction to the previous Doctor Who episode. *You* also overlooked Four's original line recited by Peter Capaldi... "Sontarians perverting the course of human history."
I know this references the Specials with David Tennant but for some reason it made me think of the Sarah Jane adventures “and the story goes on... forever...”
This episode was amazing, beautiful and sad. Kudos to Moffat for making his last finale a masterpiece! I don't care what people say about Moffat, although Tennant was my favourite Doctor, Moffat was my favourite era. He didn't always succeed in what he wanted to do, but what he achieved during his 'reign' was incredible and he brought a lot to both The Doctor, and Doctor Who!
Christopher U.S. Smith Definitely! Face the Raven and especially Hell Bent were amazing but Heaven Sent was such a disappointing and annoying let down. Here though, both episodes of the finale were very well written and produced. Kudos to all involved!
Moffat gets a lot of undeserving crap. Yeah, he gets in his own way sometimes but there were alot of times the BBC shot down ideas that I thought were good. Like the one where we were suppose to get Victorian Clara. I was excited because I've been wanting a companion from the past to travel with the Doctor. The BBC nixed the idea because they wanted a 21st century companion so we got Modern Clara. Moffat wanted to bring back some of the old companions for the 50th but the BBC nixed that idea. Moffat did try to get Eccleston to return but that was on Eccleston turning it down and not the Beeb so I can't blame them for that one. But with him turning it down, we got the wonderful War Doctor played by John Hurt. Moffat wanted to do a full length one hour special with the Eighth Doctor but the Beeb shot that down so we get a shitty six minute mini sode with 8 instead. Shitty in length not the actual production. I appreciated it but come on now. How awesome would a full one hour Night of the Doctor with Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor would've been?
Also, shout out to Pearl Mackie for doing such a great job with her portrayal of Bill. We only knew her for 1 season but I connected to her *so* much more than I ever did with Clara.
I love that with The Doctor’s nature, when he meets with himselves he’s capable of saving Gallifrey from the Time War. But the nature of The Master can be summed up as “I love killing the clever ones, they make the best faces.” He can fashion a gun out of leaves. She’s the only one capable is killing themselves.
Sesska wasn't well while filming this video and probably overlooked Eleven's regeneration line as recited by Peter Capaldi because of her illness. I think, when watching and editing her own reaction video, it may have dawned on her afterwards as she kept it in the video, but I think we can forgive her not immediately registering Four's, Ten's and Eleven's lines because she was under the weather at the time.
I love Peter Capaldi's speech to the Masters. It sums up how much this Doctor has grown since his introduction. He used to not see the importance in kindness when all that matters is resolving the crisis at hand. But now the Doctor sees its value and would put his life on the line to demonstrate it. I admire that.
suncore598 The Doctor understands kindness and has for a very long time. Until 12 started. 11 wanted to be kind and make the star whale die quick and painlessly instead of being tortured for its whole life. He thought kindness was important because just like him the star whale was egg last of its kind. There’s many more examples where he had kindness
suncore598 That's because the entire Capaldi arc was one huge 3-season story arc for Twelve to get him from the man he was back then to the man he is here.
Oh my god, it just clicked. Missy's idea about cybermen from cyberspace in Series 8 came from The Doctor. "People plus technology minus humanity. The internet, cyberspace, Cybermen. Always read the comments, because one day they'll be an army."
thanks for the cry, I really enjoyed your reaction to this and I agree with all your views on Nardy! He is just the best companion, and I love this trio so much. The Doctor is so tired of living, and you can see it in his eyes. Capaldi is just amazing, but don't worry he gets a worthy successor :)
Moffat really outdid himself with this two-parter in my opinion. It's an incredible piece of storytelling and your reaction was pure gold, Jess, as were your final comments. It makes me so happy to know you've grown to love the Twelfth Doctor so much. That moment at 11:27 perfectly encapsulates why he's my absolute favorite, and I'll never not miss him. Next week it's getting even more emotional, so we all will be here with you! :)
The great thing is ,all those episodes are still there to watch again. One of my favourite things about Doctor Who are the Doctors performances (it's such a unique character, whoever plays it) and I can watch them like I would normally listen to a song, they just keep getting better like a beloved tune.
And you know what the saddest thing about The Master is? He did listen. During the entire "Just kind" speech he was listening. And he chose to stay the way he is.
man i’m still not over twelve. he will always be my doctor; out of all the years i’ve been watching all these different doctors, twelve really got into my heart and taught me a lot over his years i feel. i have the warmest memories because of him. i’m just still so sad he’s gone. i’m not ready to relive it but i can’t wait to see your reaction!
I'm still pissed off that Rory didn't appear in the montage of companions at the end. Just had to get that out there. I loved your reaction. :) My heart was pounding so hard when the First Doctor showed up at the end.
I feel like the montage at the end should only have showcased the friends/enemies of the 12th Doctor. Clara, Vastra, Jenny, Strax, Danny, Rusty, Rigsy, Davros, Ashildr, River Song and Missy... just the characters that were important parts of HIS journey. Doing it like this feels like a hollow way to garner a reaction from the audience, where it could have been a celebration of Capaldi era.
@@allthingspaper3247 Well I'd certainly include Mickey over Jack, Vastra or Jenny. Maybe more than River too. I just mentioned Rory because he was an actual full-time companion but he didn't get the same exposure that guest characters did.
When the doctor said "I hoped there'd be stars" even my dad whi REFUSED to watch any of Capaldi's run said "come one, where are the stars." Shows you how good of a writer Moffat is
I really like the distinction between 12's refusal to regenerate and 10's refusal to do so. 10 was just kind of arrogant and in love with himself, to the point that he didn't want to give it up and regenerate into someone else. 12, on the other hand, is just tired. He's lost everybody that he had close to him, he failed (as far as he knows) to make an impact on Missy, and he's just had enough of it all. He doesn't just not want to stop being 12, he just doesn't want to keep living at all.
I think it was something Bill said to him... about not wanting to live, if she couldn't be herself. Twelve not only didn't want to regenerate, he didn't want to live, if he couldn't be himself.
10th's refusal & reluctance to regenerate, especially following the events of TEoT2, was not out of arrogance, even when considering the more hubristic tendencies of his incarnation. Remember, by the end of his life, as he was regenerating, he was doing so for (as far as he knew) the last time, after only six years, after having already wasted a regeneration to remain in that form, after only six years for a being that has lived for centuries, after having lost the closest thing to a known romantic relationship he had up to that point, after having his own daughter die just as peace was made between Humanity and the Hoth, after having effectively killed Donna and condemned her to return to her previous life, wracked with guilt after intervening to try to prevent the Kotturuh and the death of Adelaide Brooke, after having just solidified Donna's own loss, after just condemning (in his eyes) his entire race, a group that despite their radicalisation during the WiH/LGTW was still mourned by him, to death in the final moments of the Time War once again, after having just failed to save his former best friend, and with no real accomplishments he could reflect on in the same vein as other incarnations. I don't blame him for being reluctant.
This is why you’re my favourite reactor. You’re not afraid to show your emotions and the fact that the Twelfth Doctor has made such an impact on you this year makes me so happy. It was tough for me to say goodbye to this Doctor and I can’t wait to see how you react to his final episode. When I watch you watching Doctor Who, I get to watch the episodes again through your eyes and so many of the things you discuss in your analysis, I agree with. Keep up the amazing reactions, Jess.
"I can't keep on being somebody else" that line is so meaningful and the way Capaldi delivers it just hits me. We ❤️ you Peter. Thanks for being our 12th.
For those who are curious, there are many references to Classic Who in this episode: SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! "- The Doctor recounts his various victories over the Cybermen: on Telos where he sealed them in their ice tombs, (The Tomb of the Cybermen, Second Doctor), Voga (Revenge of the Cybermen, Fourth Doctor), Canary Wharf (Army of Ghosts / Doomsday, Tenth Doctor, New Who), Planet 14. (The Invasion, Second Doctor) , the Moon (The Moonbase, Second Doctor). - The Doctor has a brief recall of some of his past companions from his ninth incarnation onwards, just before his body attempts to regenerate. The Fourth and Fifth Doctor similarly had this occur to him. Like with the Fifth Doctor, the last face he sees is the Master's. - When waking up after his pre-regeneration flashbacks, the Doctor says "Sontarans! Perverting the course of human history!". They were the first words of the Fourth Doctor after regenerating. (Robot) He previously said the same thing after waking up from being knocked out by flying objects due to air pressure. (Listen) - The Doctor and Bill both recite the line "where there's tears, there's hope" at different points. A similar line, "while there's life, there's hope," served as the final words of the Third Doctor, while trying to console a crying Sarah Jane Smith. (Planet of the Spiders). - The Twelfth Doctor, and later the First Doctor, describe themselves as "the Doctor, the original you might say." The First Doctor previously said this exact phrase to Tegan Jovanka. (The Five Doctors)." Source: The Doctor Who Wiki.
Responding to your last Classic Who spoiler: First scene of the Fourth Doctor had him saying pretty much the same thing as both First and Twelfth Doctors. It is actual a snippet on UA-cam over at the Doctor Who channel: ua-cam.com/video/K3CWXqUqPFA/v-deo.html
Also 3's last words were "a tear Sarah Jane, now don't cry. While there's life there's..." which I've always felt was very close to "while there's tears there's hope"
This was probably my favourite capaldi episode. It shows how wonderful of an actor and doctor he really was. I didn’t like puddle girl coming back to save bill. Seemed a bit ehh to me however I lost it when the doctor was fighting the cybermen and mentioning every time he fought them including Canary Wharf, the place he lost Rose
Yes, we love your honest genuine reactions. Every week I look forward to your "journey". You made me appreciate the show even more than I already do. All the best for you. Greetings from Austria.
We also never physically see Simm regenerate into Gomez. Some people have suggested that there are more incarnation(s) in between the two. The lines "I imagine you're the next one along, then? / Oh, I think so. I'm a bit hazy on the whole regeneration thing" definitely leave open that possibility.
A delightful reaction. There are so many "wait till she sees" moments in this episode. I thought you'd be more set-off by the "when the doctor was me" reference to 11 but there was so much going on. The crying Cyber-Bill gets to me every time. The Dr is left not knowing Bill is freed or that Missy took his side at the end then he sees his younger self walking through the snow. It was a bit of bad day all round. Onwards to Christmas! (aka next week).
I loved that moment when puddle-girl came back. I'd forgotten about her by the time this episode came out and it was a brilliant thing to bring her back. I enjoyed how you reacted to seeing the first Doctor at the end, and I look forward to your reaction to the Christmas episode. :)
I always include this Christmas special with the rest of this season. By far one of the best seasons of Dr Who and my personal favorite of Capaldi's run. SO FUDGING GOOD!
So wonderful to read of all the love people have for Capaldi in the comments. He is my favourite modern Doctor, and is up there with Tom Baker. The speech on Kindness from this episode is probably my favourite moment in all Doctor Who - and television in general. Moves me to tears just thinking about it. So beautiful and inspiring. Always be kind!
Sesska your reactions have a way of getting me teary eyed, even tho I’ve seen these episodes numerous times... Also, your reaction for David Bradley as the 1st Doctor was priceless!
I've watched a lot of Doctor Who reaction videos. The slow realization that spreads over your face when You Know Who shows up at the end is the best of all time.
Best series finale since the first series of the NuWho. It has so many great scenes, and I'm glad you showed your reactions to as many scenes as possible.
That “be kind” speech is honestly my favorite speech from 12. It’s really moving and powerful and shows that no matter how hopeless the situation he’s in is,he will keep trying to save people even if it’s without hope, without witness, and without reward. And you can see the desperation on him as he tries to get the masters to help. And unknowing to the Doctor his speech affected missy as she later decided to join the Doctor but died without hope, without witness, and without reward. Really sad
Actually, Missy did get her reward. She stabbed John Simm's Master in the hip area. Missy realized that Simm's Master was manic again, and couldn't let his incarnation live any longer...
This Doctor Who episode is one of those I have watched over and over again. It's one of my favourites. And the Christmas episode that follows is even better. So I'm looking forward to seeing the next reaction to that one. The good thing about Doctor Who is that it delivers a variety of emotions. Laughter, sorrow, shocks and terrors that get children demanding their parents move the sofa away from the wall, so as to hide behind. Great reaction 👏👍.
You are so close, it's unreal! Not long now until Thirteen comes falling into your life like she has ours! Aaahhh!!! This finale overall is my favourite since season 5. I understand your thoughts on Missy not having a goodbye with Twelve, but I love the tragedy of the Doctor never knowing that she was prepared to stand alongside him. It's utterly heart-wrenching. The rest of the episode was solid, emotional drama and the perfect set up for Twelve's swan song. I do think you'll love his final moments. They sum up Capaldi's take on the character perfectly. But first, the Christmas special! Guest starring The Original, the First Doctor himself!!
I found you through another reaction channel. I love Doctor Who and 12 is my favorite. The emotions and design of this episode and the next one.. Magnifico!
Yeah it was amazing when he turned up, complete emotional relief after the ride earlier in the story. It’s also almost a return to “theres a noise that brings hope to all who need it, even you doctor”. Almost, but still a brilliant spin.
I think the character of the Master per se, does die in the form of Missy. It is all the more significant because most of the Master's previous incarnations have been obsessed with prolonging their lives by extending their regeneration cycle. The fact that John Simm's Master kills his own future regeneration when he learns that a future version of his will stand with the Doctor should be a definitive ending to the Master's character, because that is the one thing that would ultimately drive him to stop prolonging his life and kill himself. Any other version we see in the future (Sacha Dhawan) can be fitted between John Simm and Missy, as long as Missy gets to be the Master's last incarnation.
I remember being so happy and terrified for your first reaction to deep breath and 12, MY doctor. To see you get so emotional about his beautiful but often underappreciated arc means so much to me ❤️❤️ just a lil comment to appreciate the 12 love in this video. Thank you for giving him time and appreciating the different direction and his epic journey of character development. You're the best reactor as you appreciate all the differences and uniqueness in every versions of who!
23:27 "I don't want to go" 10s final words before regenerating. "When the doctor was me" 11th doctor just before regenerating. "Its started I'm regenerating" 10 before regenerating in the series 4 finale to create the doctor donna.
To me the most emotional, powerful, and overall best “final doctor speech” is next week. It just destroys me. Looking forward to reliving it again through new eyes with you watching it and am curious if people agree.
12's regeneration speech isn't the "overall best" in my opinion. 12's my fave doc and I wasn't even sad when he was delivering it. Without giving too much away, It felt more like a pep talk and with the music choice they went with..it made it feel inspiring and victorious. I still say, for me at least, his anti war speech from "The Zygon Inversion" is arguably his most emotional, powerful and overall best. And knowing Capaldi nailed that speech in one take makes it even more amazing.
The thing about the Christmas episode is that it is the final for everyone involved. The writers, producers and composers. Great reaction to this and a call back to the 5th doctor's regeneration with all the 'Doctor, doctor, doctor' etc. Lots of classic and new who easter eggs in these last episodes
I love how in 12th's first finale Missy almost gets zapped but then it's a Cyberman who gets there first and in this one Missy tries to zap and again a Cyberman gets there first. Nice connection :)
The Master's dematerialization circuit seen at 10:22 is an almost exact copy of the one first seen in 1971 that belonged to the first Master's TARDIS. Nice little nod to the original Master and by extension the Pertwee Doctor too, because they used the same design for the Doctor's Demat Circuit at the time too. I was annoyed that yet again we didn't see the Master's TARDIS here. But at least there was talk of it.
Dylan Shadowstar so she can survive a blast that was big enough for her to not regenerate plus a whole floor of the ship exploading. I’m pretty sure she’s a gonna. The only other explanation is that there are other masters in between the master and missy or an older or her past self goes to the future
I love the Doctor's speech about doing what he does, above all, because it's kind. I think I cry more from that on subsequent viewings than when I first heard it. I loved it then, but it hits me now. Man, Capaldi had some GREAT speeches.
From what I remember Peter capaldi was a fan of Doctor Who whenever he was a kid so I feel like all the callbacks to the original series as possibly part of his influence on the writing. This by far is the best callback to the original Who series I mean yes technically Matt Smith did actually have one of the original Doctors show up as a future regeneration although having someone who looks almost perfectly like the original doctor show up and be able to do the same kind of voice it's absolute perfection to have him interact with the creator of the series really without him going for so long he wouldn't have been able to have played the doctor because the series hinged on William Hartnell to be able to hook audiences into watching the show.
Fittingly enough, this episode came out the same year as Logan, and both stories being a kind of "post-Western" is clear (although this episode and World Enough and Time both had a clear German expressionism influence as well). They're both stories of the old gunslinger, on their last breaths, just trying to save just a few more lives before everything catches up to them. They lost everything, and are embracing their death. If there was to be a last stand (and fall) for the Doctor, this is it. Massive props to Rachel Talalay, for this and all of Capaldi's finales.
The thing about Missy not getting a final goodbye with 12, is that she died with the intention to help the doctor without him knowing. She died without witness, without hope, and without reward.
im hoping she remembered he was going to try to kill her once and for all so she prepared for that . only time will twll
I think she intentionally grabbed the doctor's hand so he could feel that small palm sized blade so he would know she had changed without letting Simm's master know. If you listen closely when she shakes his hand you can clearly hear a loud "metal on skin" clap! 12:53
Liam Beerens That is an interesting observation. :?
The episode should have been called Missy Falls rather than The Doctor Falls 😅
@@docwho10th88 yeah back when the episode came out i noticed that but we never really got a definitive answer. though in my mind he did know missy was on his side, at least thats what i'm hoping and what i want to believe even though if he didn't it still makes sense as a final goodbye to the character (until he/she shows up again which i think is inevitable)
The first time we see Missy she's dancing around a field of flowers in "heaven"; the last time we see her, she's dying in a field of flowers, all alone, in what could only be described as "hell".
And both times the field was a simulation

The tragedy of this episode is that, for all of the happily ever afters and fulfilled character arcs WE got to see, Twelve didn’t.
Missy redeemed herself and he doesn’t know.
Bill was revived and found her old water girlfriend, and he has absolutely no idea.
He wakes up in the TARDIS wondering how he isn’t dead. And for him that’s the end of the story. Missy betrayed him, Bill is doomed to be consumed by the cyber-technology. His final stance was futile in his eyes. That is his burden to bear.
This episode is absolutely magnificent.
Heather
Damn... I didn't think it that way...
Thing is... considering next ep and all, I don't think Bill survived? I think it's her afterlife because we see her as a Cyberman dying, but I think she physically died and only spiritually survived because of Heather. Just like Heather is technically dead, but "alive" because of the Alien water thingy in her. In my mind Bill dies on this episode, and that seems to be confirmed by the... glass people whatever they are. And Heather says "it's just a different kind of living"... so yeah, she's "alive" just like Heather is. Bill still died in that Cyberman tho.
@@MARYWTHER i always thought heather and the water thing was part of the glass people.
@@MARYWTHER I thought next ep implied that Bill did survive, but, as with anyone, did eventually die much later, and Glass Bill was her preserved soul from after her real death?

And yet, your reaction is lovely as always! :D

Brenotn Harsh What does lasagna have to do with it? :?
Good job Missy, good job...
lbh; except for the fact that SHE was trying to be BETTER, I feel like the Master wouldn't have had it any other way. 😆
I think that his opinion about regeneration was already clear just after Eleven.
wow...never thought of that!
I think the same. I think that he knows about the knife, and about "deep breath "It's a beautiful theory.
I can also see his resistance to regeneration during Heaven Sent, when he says "I can't keep doing this. Burning the old me to create a new one".
Missy taking his hand for way too long to make him feel the knife is my theory too!!
That's the tragedy of Missy, the Doctor not knowing that she turned good in the end. Without hope, without witness, without reward. 😭
Until next episode he doesn't know Bill's ending either
Again until chibnall destroyed it which really wasted that beautiful moment
I love how John Simm looks like The Classic Masters
That’s because of his beard. He just needed some white hair dye
All Things Paper why? None of the classic Masters' hair was white.

Glen McCulla are you still‽ haha
Just a little history, the point where the First Doctor appears is at the end of the first ever Cybermen story, which happened to be Hartnell’s final story.
Some nice symmetry in those two stories, with the Mondasian Cybermen causing both regenerations.
Well... she would have found out about that next week anyway.
@@rocketcon The Mondasian Cybermen didn't cause his first regeneration. They were in the story, they didn't cause it.

This finale was certainly better than series 9. :)
The Dastardly Penguin I think you have them backwards... Heaven Sent was *AWESOME* , Hell Bent (the S9 finale) _STUNK_ !
I can't believe you haven't jumped out of the frame on "when the Doctor was me"
Zeugl Rigger me too!

All Things Paper I was talking about the 12th Doctor specifically. I said "how much this Doctor has grown...".
suncore598 you misread my comment. I was stating that you were correct
All Things Paper Oh ok. It sounded like you were disagreeing.
Einar Sigurðsson you still think so?

I’m pissed off that every companion wasn’t in it.
Neither did Mickey but your not complaining about him lol
@@allthingspaper3247 Well I'd certainly include Mickey over Jack, Vastra or Jenny. Maybe more than River too.

Love this one but damn, I'm gonna miss both Capaldi and Missy :(
Beautiful finale and a beautiful reaction.
And man your thoughts about your year with Twelve got me good
I really like the distinction between 12's refusal to regenerate and 10's refusal to do so.
10 was not being arrogant. He had regrets... it came from his desire to do so much more. He didn't live as long as Smith's doctor

I can't wait to see you fall in love with some of the classics and with the new doctor. The journey isn't over. Great job catching up.
This was probably my favourite capaldi episode. It shows how wonderful of an actor and doctor he really was. I didn’t like puddle girl coming back to save bill. I've been having the toughest day at work and seeing this made everything ok
The Master is known to cheat death don't think Missy is the final incarnation
Today in Doctor Who: Scottish man is literally too angry to die.

I loved that moment when puddle-girl came back. I'd forgotten about her by the time this episode came out and it was a brilliant thing to bring her back.
I enjoyed how you reacted to seeing the first Doctor at the end, and I look forward to your reaction to the Christmas episode. :)

I cried more during this reaction than all the other times I watched this episode, combined. Holy crap.
Magnifico!
Right around 25:00 -- yep. That's what I did, too.
She crashed to desktop on that one.
Her reaction is priceless! :D
Yeah it was amazing when he turned up, complete emotional relief after the ride earlier in the story. It’s also almost a return to “theres a noise that brings hope to all who need it, even you doctor”. Almost, but still a brilliant spin.
I honestly thought she was going to regenerate right there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I just say?: Pearl Mackie was a FANTASTIC actress!
Thank you for your heartfelt reactions. So pleased I caught up to your catching up before you finally catch up.
OMG your face at that last scene!!! :) So glad to be able to see your reaction to this.
Ah, the Master. He takes the terms loving thyself to a whole new, weirdly hot, level. Love your reactions, miss!
Brandon Hughes I agree with you. Wait until she sees 12's final line. :(((((
12's regeneration speech isn't the "overall best" in my opinion.
I wish they would have let missy live and stand with the doctor- she finally realised the doctor was right
I love how in 12th's first finale Missy almost gets zapped but then it's a Cyberman who gets there first and in this one Missy tries to zap and again a Cyberman gets there first.
I don't buy that Missy is dead for real, or fully turned good. The Master always has a way out
I'm sure whenever chibnall wants a new master he will write some reason now she/,he survived.
Dylan Shadowstar so she can survive a blast that was big enough for her to not regenerate plus a whole floor of the ship exploading. I’m pretty sure she’s a gonna. The only other explanation is that there are other masters in between the master and missy or an older or her past self goes to the future
GhostPlay I already know he survived. And no a timelord can’t survive anything.
@GhostPlay this happens to The Master all the time
GhostPlay if a timelord was able to survive a shot in which was so bad she can’t regenerate or move. Then I’ll be surprised.
I love the Doctor's speech about doing what he does, above all, because it's kind. I think I cry more from that on subsequent viewings than when I first heard it. I loved it then, but it hits me now. Man, Capaldi had some GREAT speeches.
Looking forward to seeing you cry next week! I was sobbing on the way home from the theater!
Bill: sees her reflection in the mirror Seeska: “you’ve looked better.” 😂😂😂
Fittingly enough, this episode came out the same year as Logan, and both stories being a kind of "post-Western" is clear (although this episode and World Enough and Time both had a clear German expressionism influence as well). They're both stories of the old gunslinger, on their last breaths, just trying to save just a few more lives before everything catches up to them. They lost everything, and are embracing their death. If there was to be a last stand (and fall) for the Doctor, this is it. Massive props to Rachel Talalay, for this and all of Capaldi's finales.
this episode broke me almost as bad as Amy and Rorys final episode
Same :(
Oh, and if you ever need a Missy fix, the actress is on the new Sabrina show on netflix
@@dresdenfan88 Also, if she's still keen on Mickey there's this tv show "Bulletproof" has been promo-ing a lot where I am!
Seeing Bill crying over the Doctor's body still gets me 😭
25:00 Priceless reaction as she realizes David Bradley is playing the First Doctor. :O :O :O
ive been refreshing for so long and iths here
