- High Iron To Huntington covers the entire 1991 NRHS Convention held in Huntington, West Virginia during the month of August 1991, Featuring NKP 765, PM 1225 & N&W 1218.
This program was made by the long defunct Trackside Video, A video company operated from 1987 until 2008 out of Lake Forest, Georgia & has been lost for 31 years. Most if not all of the Trackside Video programs are lost media and are hard to find.

On that Friday of August 9th my dad was working as a track instructor for CSX On the Coal river subdivision he heard 756 calling out signals coming out of Huntington and then found out they were running 765 and 1225 up from Huntington and took off the rest of the day and came and picked me up and we went down to St.albans to watch them.
I'm enjoy seeing nkp 765 and pm 1225. That's my favorite of 1991 excursion.

I do have one program from trackside video was 4501: A Farewell Odyssey that covers Southern Railway # 4501's last runs in 1998 that features the double header to Lafayette, Georgia with former US Army locomotive # 610 on September 19, 1998, last revenue runs on the Missionary Ridge Local on that Sunday September 20, 1998 and a 1996 Levi's commercial filming with the photo freight when she was green before she was painted into her existing paint scheme. This program coverage was before 4501's rebuild after 630's completion in 2011 and then the 01's return to service in 2014.

It would be a great day when the Big boy becomes an American icon and placed on the Silver Dollar and the Nickle plate road Berkshire. The Blueridge even the Allegehny and DMI&R Yellowstone. The power that Built this Country, they should all be recommended for placement on a special line of high quality collections of silver coinage. How grand that would be The Super Chief, the Broad way Limited, as well the 20th Century Limited, Orange Blossom special, Empire builder, the California Zephyr and the City of New Orleans . Let’s all of us see that happening. They most definitely should have and deserve recognition.
The country needs to bring back these majestic iron steeds of steam to th rails to this country. What absolute lovely spectacular scene to behold.

I’m fairly certain Greg Scholl Video Productions and am totally certain that Pentrex’s respective films of the ‘91 Convention have coverage of those runs.
Heck, Pentrex made an entirely separate film out of their coverage of the runs leading up to the Convention. You can purchase both it and their film covering the actual Convention itself as a two disc pack from their website.

It would be nice to see both #1225 and #765's runby of the tracks next to the old Lima Locomotive Works. According to eyewitness accounts, there were goosebumps all around when they passed the "birthplace" of both locomotives.

@@Southfloridaeverything It was a C&O 3. Actually research stuff, and you’ll see.
There really is no such thing as either of those. It's a Hancock Long Bell 3 Chime, which was used by both Union Pacific and the C&O, as well as MANY other roads. The UP used it for most of it's superpower, while C&O really only used it on their streamlined Hudsons.

I think this is the only film to have covered the last leg of the Berkshires’ ferry move from Russel to Huntington. Talk about a hard to find piece of film if that’s the case. I could be wrong though, maybe other companies DID cover that leg of the move and I just don’t know about it.
Also, let it be known that the way the 1225’s whistle sounded back when this video was filmed is my favorite sound for it. It just sounded more full and proper, unlike nowadays where the SRI’s added lever/rope control of the whistle and subsequent quilling have worn the whistle to sound much different and like there’s something missing from the whistle’s sound.
Also, I wouldn’t want to be a local in any of the towns along the routes if the runs leading up to, during, and following the ‘91 Convention were to be repeated here in the 21st century. The traffic jams alone would be insane, much less the tsunami of crazed foamers.

@@justahillbilly7777 After 2000 (I think) they re tuned 1225’s whistle (I have no idea how it was broken) I meant untune the whistle, not unfix
@@JOEMAMA_534 Ah. “Retune” would be the word to use then. Honestly, I just wish the SRI would send the whistle into Rizzoli Locomotive Works so those guys could bring the whistle back into its prime before sending it back. Bring back the button actuation of the whistle as well and I’d be a happy camper in the whistle department.
1:01:36 I love seeing 1225 running this fast or more! Sick of seeing 1225 running in slow speeds from Owosso to Alma and back currently too often! Longed for 1225 having high speed runs.

@@ericwood2062 It hasnt made it to DVD & probably never will (Since Trackside is no longer an active business, having gone out of business in 2008 & any assets from that company are probably long gone now)
