Can I just say that the C&O had some eye achingly gorgeous steam locomotives in its hay day and this is coming from a Virginia native in Henrico county
Thanx muchly for sharing this little treasure! I absolutely adore trains! I love watching and listening to their clickety-clack, chuff-chuff, wooooo-wooooo, and other great train noises. I loved riding them. I miss them. Shame all of these magnificent beasts are gone now. My granddad retired from C&O at Union Station in DC. Thanx so much for the nostalgia trip!
Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Russell, Kentucky in the 1940s and early 50s. My uncle was an engineer on the 2700 series. Our house faced the tracks going into and out of the C&0 yards, at that time the largest independently owned yards in the country. Good work Jerry and Godspeed.
Excellent video with a wide variety of C&O power. I have a VHS tape by JMJ of N&W Class A 1218 on its original runs after it was restored to operating condition and it is great also. One quick point: C&O’s 2-8-4 Kanawha was named after the river in my home state of West Virginia that the C&O ran alongside for many miles. Us Mountaineers pronounce it “kuh NAW uh”.
Thanks for the upload. I had, and still have, a UK-released copy of this video from when I was a child. It was a major catalyst then in my interest in American steam power. Regards, Samuel Farris.
Great video and especially the narrative to go along with the video. I very much enjoyed it and hope that at another time, you might do one on the C & O's Allegany the [ 2666 ] monster built by Lima. Thank you again.
Great video, liked seeing 490. I can tell they put her to work, she didn't look nearly as clean as she does now at the Mount Claire shops In Baltimore.
The Chesapeake & Ohio railroad had an impressive variety of steam power during the steam era and this film displays the various classes of C&O steam power. It's a true shame however that none of the t1 class 2-10-4 types and the L2 class Hudson engines were preserved for display for the future.
Incredible footage. The recurring theme of focusing on the head number boards and bell during runbys is a very cinematic touch. It makes the footage feel more relatable for some reason, just that extra touch of character that makes this feel like a real moment of regular industrial work instead of a misty-eyed vignette of the rose colored past.
Some great footage. Info on the K-4 is wrong, only 20 were built by Lima, Alco built the other 70. All of the ones presented here numbered in the 2760s were Alco builds.
Great footage! Love seeing all the different classes of the C&O. BTW that last part with the scrapping of steam locomotives is just flat out depressing.
@@echoecho3108 No, but thank you. Yes on UA-cam, downloads cost, come with commercials, and no copyright permission. Id like to get the video in original form, no commercials, and with the owners permission. This is why you cant contact the video owner directly anymore. UA-cam wants your money. Thank you anyways.
You know what happened in Oklahoma sulphur the tornado killed everyone in that place it was yesterday on the 27 of April Saturday it was gonna hit us in Brookfield Missouri but it hit Oklahoma sulphur
I have or have tried to see many JMJ videos and have to say they are the worst videos ever made. None have been corrected to be viewable. Way too dark and some won't view properly.

This Video should be digitally remastered! Thanks for presentation, from Germany
The video needs remastering badly.

from what i know this is one of the only recordings of an L1 Hudson running, ever. props to this absolute gem of a video, there's so much to see
I love how they have some footage of #614
I know. It reminds of me of 3985's brief appearance in Last of the Giants
2:24 Are those smoke deflectors on 301? Edit: Yes those are, wow!
3:06 490 in revenue service

I love seeing some old steam locomotives in the world.
Great videos. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool, thanks!
I would love to get a copy of this
Sad,all good things come to an end, thank you
Absolute crime! Not more C&O Hudsons were spared.. Or other exceptional C&O steamers.
What about C&O 490? That's an C&O Hudson and she's preserved.
@@thegermanfnaffan3848 I know, I was saying more of them should have been saved, and other classes from C&O.
@@jesseusgrantcanales in my opinion they shouldve saved one of L-2 hudsons equipped with type B rotary cam poppet valves
The 490 footage emerges at last
Wow, some of those barely fit in those tunnels!
R.i.p all of the engines in this vid (except 490)
Great video but sadly no videos of H-7s and H-8s 😢😢
C&O 605 in the flat top tunnel 8:25
Think about the steam locomotives with a million + miles then think about how many strokes the pistons made in those million + miles. 😧
I wonder who the CD was manufactured from.
Where was the Allegheny in this clip? Did I miss it?
Actually theres no Allegheny :(
Would like to get a copy of this. How can I contact you?
I don't know if this helps, but there is a 'download' button available if you're seeing this on UA-cam.
