For me, understanding cockpit setup resulted in improved control with (almost) zero arm pump. Learning how to bleed brakes allowed me to fit TRPs 2.3mm wide rotors on my SRAM Code R brake setup for amazing braking. 155mm cranks (from 165) allowed my hips to rotate easier on downhill runs for better cornering. Lastly, learning suspension tuning brought my full powered emtb to life, enhancing all the parts I ride on.
I rode ergon GP2 for so many years. I was given absolute ribings for it, but i loved them. Needed carpal tunnel surgery and it was the only thing I could ride!

I'm 6 foot and am between frame sizes L and XL. XL feels better so I have just ordered a Trek Powerfly 4 in XL but really how do I know it's the right choice? Do I buy an XL and lower everything or a L and extend?
My new 2024 cube action 160 came with Newman carbon 780mm just perfect for me I'm bigger guy so feel more comfortable arms out more think the 800/810mm would be to wide the bikes pretty much set up perfect for me to my surprise! I5 does feel weird no needing to change anything mind you it's not normal lol saddle that's it and never came with peddles but got my new Sam Hill horizon wider oil slick ones on it it's really nice ebike
No the normal method doesn't work for emtb riding. When you are actually riding at speed and you have your seat at standard height you get bucked too high and lose contact with the pedals. It's 2cm lower than you would for a normal fit where you are optimizing for pedaling power. That can work if you only ride up fire roads but if you are doing technical pedaling with the seat up then it just doesn't work.
Over the last thirty years of mountain biking, building my own bikes, using rim, canterlever, V and hydrolic brakes, i can honestly say the marketing departments have done their stuff, very well. On hydrolics, the BPA and reach adjustments are just that, marketing. The hydrolic brake is a tube with a piston in it, no more, no less. You thinking it makes a difference where it works is, well, marketing. Anyhoo, love the channel........ rant over
Engineers can design variable rate leverage linking the lever to the piston, and they can adjust lever travel before the piston begins to move fluid. So yeah, there is an excess of marketing BS in every industry, but there are also real design features. You are throwing out the baby with the bath water.
@Acceleronics As an engineer of over forty years experience designing "variable geometry linkage" or whatever BS you want to call it, I can assure you the so called "variable rate linkage" used is no more than smoke and mirrors. It's a piston in a tube. No more, no less.
@@mikebirkett010 I am also a product design engineer with 40 years of product design experience, and I can assure you that my Magura MT7 levers can vary the mechanical advantage of the levers. Maybe you label things you don't understand as BS? That is not uncommon.
That's clever. As far as i can see, the Magura MT7 is a perfectly standard fixed pivot lever with reach and BPA adjustment. Unless the laws of physics have changed over the last forty years, the only way you could change the MA would be for the lever to extend outwards or for the pivot to move during operation. Now you could claim that by adjusting the reach, you may adjust the effective length of the lever, but this would be so small as to make it pointless to claim (indeed, Magura does not make this claim). So I stand by my original statement.

You can use water but it would still be called a hydraulic system.
