How to display a video? Gives an error message. And how can you make the earth spin?
Problems I encountered and found solutions to:
Q: How do you find tools like "ward?"
A: Shift+space key
Q: How do you rotate the Earth angle at 3:56 with your mouse?
A: Shift+hold right click
Q: Earth texture is filling the entire sphere. (Three possible fixes. The first worked for me)
A1: Add a "transform" node right after the MediaIns and scale them up (Diffuse → Transform → Ward1 → Shape3D1). I scaled "size" up to 1.57
A2: Resize the 6K image to 2K or 3K
A3: Convert the .jpg to a .bmp
Rotation of the camera in v18 was with the ALT key this time around... took me awhile to find it.
20 minutes and no mistakes, impressive.
That would be the power of editing! :)
Dang it, my poor ol' GTX 1660 is straining like a mofo right towards the end with all the glow and stuff... Can't even animate the camera without DR crashing... Time to upgrade I guess :)
Tnx for the tutorial. I watched this WAAAAAY back when Andrew Kramer did it in Adobe AE. Lovely to see it done on modern software - still complicated af and I don't understand the half of it, but it all works !
in 16:17 how do you flip it around, like, where should i press to make that green rectangle appear in the center of the "stars" image??
Ctrl+T which flips the foreground and background inputs on the merge3D node

I recreated the effect step by step in 4k and achieved a great result.
I had a few problems animating, which I fixed as follows. In order to let the earth rotate, I inserted another Merge3D node between Merge3D_1 and Merge3D_3 and linked the CityLight into it. With Rotation Z, the earth including the CityLights can be rotated.
With the spheric CloudShape and LightShape I had problems with the textures. I bumped the subdivisions to 60 and everything was fine.

Definitely one of the best Earth tutorials👍 The lighting looks quite realistic. Considering Fusion’s renderer is a bit limited, I wonder how well the same lighting and effects would work applied to another model in the scene, like a model of a satellite or space station perhaps? I’m still slowly getting comfortable with Fusion..
Thanks so much! If you wanted you could have the satellite in a different scene. That way you can use different lights. For example have the satellite, directional light(same one that is one the earth), and a ambient light or another directional light to recreate the earth reflecting light back. Then you can merge that into the Merge3D with the camera node. Just make sure that Merge3D node doesn't have any other lights going into it. Hopefully that makes sense.

I am trying to work my way through your Earth tutorial. Whenever you have a step that involves creating an expression field (5:35) Divinci (v17.1) blows up. My timeline proxy mode is set for 1/4 resolution. Hardware issue? Memory issue? Any ideas?

At 03:58 how are you rotating the earth to choose the perspective? When I try to click and drag nothing happens. Solution (for those using Mac): CTRL+SHIFT+ scroll
@@richardjordan3798 if you hold down Alt and middle mouse click it will let you do that. If it isn't alt try CMD or Ctrl

Hi nice tutorial i am begginer in davinci and fusion its some thing new for me but i hawe some problem do same, i see 6k textures in your media pool but i hawe 2k and 8k i can change in 4k 6k too but if i put 2k globe its covered all if i put 8k globe is covered in half, how this happend if you hawe 6k textures ? Edit ok i hawe found way to make this 8k texture on Shape3D1 making background at 4k resolutiin 😁😜

One big question: Is it able to spin the earth around or the clouds? Would be awesome not only to move the camera but sadly i cant figure it out how. if i move the earth sphere it rips apart the texture.

Hi, when I tried to apply the earth diffuse to the sphere, only about 60% of my earth is showing up and the rest is missing. Is there some other setting that addresses this issue?
A few people have been having this issue. The only fix that I have found is added a transform node right after the MediaIns and scaling them up. I will let you know if I find another fix!
This seems to happen to a few people, not sure why, but these are 6K maps and I don’t think Fusion is mapping them correctly, I reduced the size to 2K and 3K and the texture wraps correctly, problems started at 4K for me, so try resizing in Photoshop and ensure size is a multiple of 2 so 2K = 2048 and 3K would be 3072. Hope it helps.

In the beginning you made a shape node and moved the grid around. My mouse won't move the grid. How do you do that?

I believe it would. When you are building it set the timeline proxy mode to 1/4th.

Импортировать текстуры в проект.
Создать Shape3D ни к чему не привязывая.
В Shape указать Sphere. Radius: 10. ПКМ по Height Subdivisions → Expression → Зажать плюсик и линкануть его к Base Subdivisions.
Натянуть текстуру Земли на шар.
К текстуре Diffuse создать и подключить ноду Ward, который подключить к Shape3D.
К текстуре Normal создать и подключить BumpMap, который подключить к Ward ко входу Bumpmap Material.
Переименовать Shape в EarthSphere, после этой ноды создать Merge3D и Renderer3D и подключить их к MediaOut. Создаём Camera3D и подключить её к только что созданной Merge3D.
Скопировать камеру из вьювера в ноду.
Во вьювере ПКМ → Camera → Copy PoV to → Camera3D1.
Создать DirectionalLight и подключить к Merge3D1. В Tools можно крутить и устанавливать позицию света. С помощью Rotation можно вращать источник света вокруг земли.
От источника света на земле будет яркий блик, который нужно исправить.
Текстуру Gloss подключить к Ward1 к каналу Specular Color Material.
Ward1 → Tools → Specular → ПКМ по Spread V → Expression → Линкануть к Spread U.
Крутить Spread U пока не будет вменяемый результат по блику.
Чтобы видеть лайтинг во вьювере
ПКМ во вьювере → 3D Options → Lighting
Скопипастить ноду EarthSphere в пустоту и переименовать в WithoutTextures. Создать после неё Merge3D, к которой подключить SplericalCamera. После Merge3D2 создать Renderer3D. Подключить уже созданный DirectionalLight1 к Merge3D2
Поставить в Renderer3D2 в Tools → Lighting галочку на "Enable Lighting". Затем в Image снять галочку Auto Resolution → ПКМ по Height → Expression → 'Width/1920*1080' и сделать разрешение, эквивалентное разрешению текстуры Illumination.
После Renderer3D2 создаём Transform и делаем Flip Horisontal.
Копируем ноду EarthSphere в пустоту и переименовываем в CityLights. Подключаем к Merge3D1.
Подключаем Transform1 к CityLights.
После Transform1 создаём LumaKeyer. В Tools → Channel ползунком Low/High можем регулировать плавныый переход текстуры земли.
SphericalCamera1 → Tools → Rotation → Y = 90.0
Рассоединить Transform1 и LumaKeyer1. Подключить Illumination текстуру к LumaKeyer1.
Чтобы сделать свет огней Земли ярче,
LumaKeyer1 → Channel → Low/High и Gamma подвигать ползунки.
Чтобы видеть огни в теневой стороны Земли,
City Lights → Tools → Lighting → Affected by Lights снять галочку
Вновь подключить Transform1 к Illumination. Settings → Apply Mask Inverted - Check
Settings → Channel → Luminance
Создать Bitmap. Transform1 подключить к жёлтому входу Bitmap1, а Bitmap1 к входу маски Illumination.
В Bitmap → Channel → Luminance: Low = 0, High = 0.5
После LumaKeyer1 создать ColorCorrector. Gain = 2
К текстуре Clouds скопировать и подключить ноду EarthSphere и переименовать в CloudsSphere и подключить к Merge3D1.
В CloudSphere → Specular → Intensity = 0.2 мы убираем блик который падает от облаков.
После Clouds создать LumaKeyer2 чтобы убрать всё чёрное.
У CloudsSphere → Radius = 10.006
У CityLights → Radius = 10.003
После ноды Merge3D1 создать Merge3D3 и подключить Camera3D1 к ней, а также CityLights переподключить тоже к ней.
После Ward1 создать Reflect1.
Создать Ward2 в пустоте и подключить его к Reflect1 канала Reflection Color Material.
Ward 2 → Diffuse → Указать цвет синей атмосферы (например Hue 0.6 sat 0.8 value 0.8)
Подключить текстуру Gloss к Ward2 канала Specular Color Material
Ward2 → Specular → Intensity = 0
В Reflect1 → Glancing Strength / Face On Strength / Fallof мы регулируем интенсивность атмосферы (например 1 / 0.11 / 1.4)
Создать Shape3D → Shape = Sphere
Подключить текстуру Stars к Sphere3D1 как Material, а Sphere3D1 к Merge3D3.
Sphere3D1 → Radius = 300.
Создать Background. Сделать Height Expression и прописать Width/1920*1080.
Указать Width = 8200
Снять галочку с Auto Resolution.
Подключаем Background1 к выходу Stars, так что между ними автоматически создаётся Merge. Внутри Merge → Edges = Mirror, Size = 0.67
Создать Merge3D4, скопировать Renderer3D1.
Подключить Shape3D1 к жёлтому входу Merge3D4.
Копировать Camera3D1 и, оставляя выделенную ноду, вставить сочетанием Ctrl+Shift+V. Созданный Merge удалить. И теперь Instance_Camera3D зелёным входом подключена к фиолетовому входу Camera3D1.
Instance_Camera3D → Angle View ПКМ → Deinstance.
Instance_Camera3D → Focal Length (mm) ПКМ → Deinstance.
Подключить Instance_Camera3D к Merge3D4, который подключить к Renderer3D1_1, который подключить к выходу Renderer3D1 чтобы между ними создалась Merge.
Текстуру BlueHaze подключить к выходу Merge2. Создастся Merge3.
Merge3 → Apply Mode = Screen
Через паремтр Blend можно регулировать интенсивность тумана
После Renderer3D1 создать SoftGlow1. Glow Size = 44.
Через ПКМ повторно подключить Renderer3D1 к SoftGlow1 во вход Mask. Так что теперь эти ноды соединены двумя каналами.
SoftGlow1 → Apply Mask Inverted - Check
С помощью Treshold, Gain, Glow Size можно наводить красоту.
После Merge3 создать Grain1. Power = 0.86
После MediaOut1 создать Saver1. После чего в меню Fusion → Render All Savers можно сохранить проект для последующего импорта в другие проекты.

Looks fantastic!! One question, I am trying to work through the tutorial and everytime I try to spin the world around like you do in the video all it does is draw a box. I can not change the perspective of the picture. Any ideas why? Probably something easy........

Yes it is! Just rotate the Clouds sphere!
Can anyone tell me why I'm getting triangle shaped flicker on my render of this?
It's like flickering randomly all over the earth as it plays and there is an odd warping in the space just above the earth

I know it has nothing to do with the tutorial, but could someone tell me why when I import a 3d earth model, they even lose the texture?
I try to do it this way because with such a heavy effect it's almost impossible to animate on my pc.

I have a Problem with the Shape Node. When i put the earth textures on it i have a hemisphere. How i can fix that? :(

Those who experience problems with the earth texture doesn't fill the sphere, try scaling down the JPG textures to 3000x1500 pixels :)

can someone help me please, I tried to design the image in blender and import it and I tried to follow the tutorial step by step, but in both cases the image does not cover the whole sphere.

complicated to understand how it works ...
you need to slow down a little and tell people exactly where and what keys you are pressing. You have menus popping up that people dont know how to use or get to.
The tutorial is great. i recommend if anybody has a problem following up just watch first the tutorials of blackmagic for fusion and then come back to advanced tutorials like this. Dont skip the learning process ! :)

Jake, thanks for the tutorial! However, it would be more impressive if you had shown how to animate the 3D camera. No matter what I do, on the way from point A to point B, my camera is spinning along all three axes, and I can't make it to work. That's getting really frustrating....
