- Symi island Greece is one of the gems of the Dodecanese. It stands out for its beautiful architecture, colorful houses and relaxed atmosphere. The port of Symi seems to have popped out of a painting! The first thing that catches your eye as you approach Symi by ferry is the colorful mansions around the port. There is not one modern looking stracture around.
The port (also known as Gialos) is considered the center of the island and is one of the two parts that make up the capital town. The other part is Ano Symi (or Chorio) which is built amphitheatrically on a hill (a walk among its labyrinthine small streets is on another video) and culnminates in the castle and the small church that's built next to it (12:23 - 14:08)

I have been to Symi 6 times and have always found it to be not just beautiful but also authentic. This is not just a holiday, it is an experience where you can live like a Greek. No McDonalds and no Starbucks, just a wonderful relaxing haven away from this horrible world.

My first visit to Symi took my breath away.
If you go there, don't forget to make a visit to the icecream parlor in the harbour.
(If everything goes to plan, I will visit Rhodes and Symi for the 7th time).
