- Who is your favorite baseball player from the 80s? How many cards do they have in this top 100 list?
My email: jimsaritelli@gmail.com
I had PSA add this set to the registry a few years back. I'm glad your enjoying it! Congrats!
Yes Mike! I remember Ray(from Philly) telling me how you were the catalyst for this set. I remember too watching your videos when you were working on it! So cool! As an 80s kid these cards and players bring me so many great memories!
I really appreciate your comment!
Was that difficult to do?
@@boobooboogoo yes! Got it done in person at National in Chicago a few years ago
This was a fun blast from the past. On my list back then it would have Clemens and Boggs rookies in the top 10 😄 Nice to see Ron Kittle on here and I wondered where the Donruss Gregg Jeffries was going to be. The Bo Jackson Classic card is so cool! Thanks for sharing and congrats on completing this run, Jim. Great video!
Thanks so much Hugo! It was a lot of fun putting this together! So many great memories of seeing these players and collecting these cards back in the day!
I really appreciate you watching and leaving an awesome comment! Have a great weekend brother!
Full watch of some iconic 80’s baseball cards . Love seeing the Braves players and Braves players to be
Thanks so much Adam! Really appreciate you checking it out! Have a great weekend!
Very cool cards. Mattingly ruled the 80's!
Yes he did! Thanks so much for taking some time to watch and comment! I really appreciate it!
Buncha cool cards there Jim. Thanks for sharing brother. 👍
Thanks Mike! I appreciate you watching buddy! Have a great weekend!
Really nice showcase! Most of the games greatest players of the 80s shown here.
Definitely a lot of fun cards and players from the era! I appreciate you stopping by!
Awesome collection Jim! Super nostalgic!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Darren! I had a lot of fun with this! So many great memories of the cards and players! I really appreciate you watching! Have a nice weekend!
Awesome collection of slabs, too many nice cards, grew up watching all these guys play, wow $1500 for a card 😳my fav out the bunch ofcourse is Joe Carter 👍😎🔥🔥
Thanks brother! I really appreciate you watching! I bet Joe Carter never has to buy another meal or drink in Toronto! 😁 He’s a great guy too by all accounts!
Hi Jim,
Wow! To get 99 of the 100 cards PSA graded is amazing. You're right that these cards evoke nostalgia being they are the cards many of us grew up collecting. The 84 Donruss Mattingly, 84 Topps Traded Gooden, 84 Fleer Clemens and 82 Topps Ripken were dream cards. I am glad he included the Diamond Stars Rose given how big that subset became as the decade progressed.
88 Topps Jim Abbott, 88 Donruss Jefferies, 81 Topps Charboneau, 82 Topps Kmart Wills , Classic Bo Jackson were great choices as they all reflect cards that were important at the time.
Interesting he chose variations of the same card such as the 84 Topps Mattingly. Regardless, those are all nice cards to have in your collection. The hat Delino Deshields is wearing is hilarious. That makes it worthy for the list alone. A few of the TCMA Minor League cards would have been interesting to add like the Ripken, Gwynn and Mattingly. I was aware of those cards as a kid. My dad got my brother and me one of the Mattingly minor league cards. That may have been opening a can of worms and your wallet if he added those to the list.
I really enjoyed seeing your collection and hearing the writeups on each player. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Hi Terry! Thanks for the awesome comment!
I really had a great time doing this set! So many great memories of these cards and players! There are some cards here that I never had as a kid as well so that made it fun too.
The 1982 Donruss Diamond Kings Rose holds the distinction of being card number 1 of the first Diamond Kings issue, which as you pointed out became a very popular issue over the years.
Yes I’m glad there aren’t any minor league cards here, some can get very pricey for sure. They are fun but don’t seem to be very popular among many collectors. That’s really cool that your dad got you the Mattingly minor league card, that’s a nice memory for you!
I don’t mind the Tiffany cards being included. The Mattingly is the biggest card from the first Tiffany set and the Will Clark and Greg Maddux only have the Tiffany and not the base. It is a little redundant having both the 89 Fleer Griffey base and Tiffany.
One card I would have liked to see included would have been the 1980 Topps Nolan Ryan, that’s a great card too in my opinion!
I really appreciate you taking the time to check out the video, I know it was really long!
Have a nice Sunday!
Great set. Well done Jim!
Thanks Mike! Really appreciate you checking out the video! Have a great weekend!
Awesome my friend
Thank you sir! I always appreciate you stopping by! 👍🏻
What a beauty of a collection! Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking some time to watch and comment! It means a lot to me! Have a nice weekend!
Hello Jim, what an AWESOME project you succeeded to complete ! Congratulations ! So many great cards in this video and i enjoyed too to listen the "article" for every player.
In this video my favourite looking cards are :
- 1985 Topps Mark McGwire with the USA team in 84
- 1986 Topps Traded Bo Jackson
- 1985 Topps Kirby Puckett
- 1986 Fleer Update Barry Bonds
- 1981 Topps traded Mike Scioscia/Fernando Valenzuela rookies card
- 1981 Topps Harold Baines.
- 1989 Upper Deck Randy Johnson
- 1989 Bowman Ken Griffey Jr
At 21:55 funny to heard the french name "voltigeur"...😃.
Very very impressive accomplished project !
Thanks Fabien! I really loved collecting these cards, a lot of fun! Hopefully I didn’t butcher “voltigeur” to badly! 😁
You put together a nice collection. Yes that missing card is outrageously expensive
Thanks Peter! Yeah man I can’t imagine spending $1500+ for the last card in this set. I’ll never say never though! 😁
I appreciate you watching my friend! Have a nice weekend!
Jim, this is amazing collection of 80’s cards. Thanks for taking me back to my childhood days!!!
Hi Dave! Collecting these cards is all about the nostalgia for me, the memories far exceed their value! I appreciate you watching my friend! I hope all is well!
Great video Jim. Thanks for the 80s nostalgia. Many great cards represented here. The 80s definitely attracted many collectors and chasers. These cards leave their mark for sure.
Thanks Daniel! I had fun with this and it definitely brings back a lot of great memories. I appreciate you watching! Hope all is well!
Hey Jim! First I apologize I’m a little late watching this video. As soon as I saw the title and the time I knew I needed to devote my full attention to it.
Second, holy cow, Jim! What an accomplishment and a collection. This was just absolutely fantastic.
The McGwire is absolutely one of my all time favorite. But it’s really hard to dislike any of the 80’s cards if you’re a true collector.
Jim this was a fantastic video and I can imagine the time it took to organize and record. Thanks for putting in that time and effort to show us. Truly enjoyed!
Hi Andy! No need for an apology, I know it’s tough to find time to watch such a long video. That being said, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and I always appreciate your support!
I really enjoyed putting the set together but I’m glad to be done! 😁
Have a great week my friend!
Somehow I can still bring back that fever I had in 88 or 89 when at the Route1 flea market in NJ. Specifically there for the vendor who had 86 Dunruss boxes. Pulling the Canseco was like having $50 in your pocket. As a 13 year old, it felt like $500.
Hahaa! So true! The memories of collecting these cards far exceed their value and that’s fine with me!
I appreciate you taking some time to watch and comment!
Whoa!! That took some time to watch this one. But each and every moment made it truly well worth it Bro, absolutely delightful!! 🤩
*M-I-N-D B-L-O-W-I-N-G* showcase Bro!! 🤯
Unbelievable incredible collection of cards!! 🔥
Some truly legendary names here, Tony Gwynn, Bo Jackson, Ken Griffey Jr.(especially that Auto), Roger Clemens, Cal Ripken Jr., Joe Carter, Barry Bonds, George Brett Auto, all are sick!! 🔥
A HUGE Like Number 16, fully watched as always (42:33)👍🏻
Full support from my side Bro👍🏻
Thanks so much my friend! I know it was an unusually long video but I really appreciate your support and comment, it means a lot to me! Have a nice weekend!
@@PickerJimS you always have my full support My Brother ❤️❣️🙏🏻
God Bless 🙏🏻
Holy Smokes! What a great collection, congrats and thanks for sharing! I of course loved all of the Strawberry cards! There was a few in there I had never seen before like the De Shields card! Awesome video! Keep on rocking!
Thanks so much! The Strawberry cards are awesome and he rightfully is represented well on this list. I clearly remember what a big deal both he and Gooden were during that era! As a Strawberry collector I would love to see you get the “Strawberry Fields Forever” captioned newspaper photo!
I appreciate you watching!
Wow! Now that’s impressive! Brings back the memories. I have that 1% card you’ll never get. That card is way overvalued.
Thanks Rick! I appreciate your comment my friend! I remember when you had that Donruss Bonds/Ray card graded not too long ago!
Awesome video Jim! The 80’s was such a fantastic time for baseball and those cards are classics! I own quite a few that I plan to grade and after watching this video there are a few more I need. Awesome collection my friend, thanks for taking us all back to a great time!
Thanks so much for the awesome comment Steve! As an 80s kid I really have a soft spot for the decade. I had a lot of fun doing this run, the memories of the players, and collecting the cards are really enjoyable to me!
It makes me happy to hear that you found a couple of cards that you want to add to your collection from watching this video!
I appreciate you watching my friend!
Have a great weekend!
Pure Nostalgia on this! I'm not a PSA registry guy but this one I can get on board with.
Thanks Allen! This set is all about the nostalgia for me. I had a lot of fun working on it! I appreciate you watching!
These were the cards from the height of my MLB fandom! It's like seeing old friends! I have 25 of them I believe and Puckett and Brett probably my favorite, not sure how many Pucketts, Bretts I have, quite a few. Beautiful collection, well presented and great commentary! Congratulations, thanks for sharing and Good Collecting 👍👍💗💗ps. how dare you have such long videos 😂😂
Thanks Robert! They are definitely fun and nostalgic cards to collect! I appreciate the awesome comment!
Fantastic video Jim. What an amazing collection of cards. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Ed! I really appreciate your support as always my friend!
That is so cool Jim! I’m watching it in pieces. Love the 1980’s cards on this registry! Thanks for sharing!
Hey CK! I really had a great time putting this set together, just some great memories of collecting these cards in my youth!
I know it’s tough to watch these longer videos, I really appreciate you taking some time to check it out!
@@PickerJimS I’m always happy to watch things that mean so much to others. Good memories are something we can’t have enough of.
Jim! Never enjoyed a long video so much! You shared all the key 80s cards. Even had my guys Greg Jefferies and Wally Joyner hidden in there and of course the key guys.. Sandberg, Maddux, The Kid, Gwynn, Boggs, Big Mac, etc... so many others. Always enjoy buddy and thanks for sharing with us! Hope you are doing well buddy.
Steve, thanks so much for taking the time to watch!
Had a lot of fun doing this, all these cards and players bring back such great memories!
I appreciate your comment! Have a nice weekend!
Jim I watched this a few days ago and was blown away by your nostalgia collection this is crazy !!! Something so special about these cards indeed 👊👊🤙🤙
Thanks brother! I appreciate you taking the time to check out the video! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Awesome cardboard accomplishment Jim!
Thanks Mike! It was a lot of fun to do! Have a nice weekend!
I started collecting in 1978 so this video hits home with me. I was thinking about it the other day and how the 80’s Baseball Players resonated with the masses more than they do now.
Bonds, Gwynn, Clemens, Gooden, Strawberry, Mattingly, Boggs, Sandberg. Puckett, Griffey, Fernando, Bo, Ripken, Canseco. Even the casual sports fan knew these guys.
Now Football and Basketball has sort of taken over sports with the masses. Brady, Mahomes, Steph, Lebron, etc. I just don’t think Baseball players today resonate with the masses except Ohtani. Maybe because the masses only collected Baseball cards in the 80’s, so those player’s faces were a staple in every living room?
Thanks Chris! I really appreciate your awesome comment! I agree, most of these cards are not valuable but the memories we have of them are priceless! Modern baseball and its players certainly has taken a backseat to football and basketball.
Really impressive and insanely cool and nostalgic set Jim! It was a lot of fun watching you go through these. Congrats on completing this to your liking!!!
Thanks Joe! I appreciate you checking out the video! Have a nice weekend!
Awesome 80's showcase, Jim WOW Pretty impressive. Really enjoyed my friend
Thank you Scott! I appreciate you watching buddy! Have a great weekend!
Jim, amazing. Watched the whole thing. Loved every minute. What an awesome accomplishment.
Thank you! I had a lot of fun working on this! I appreciate you watching!
How did I miss this video. I’ll blame the YT algorithms 🤔 Awesome cards Jim. My favorite is the 82 KMart Maury Wills as that set has special meaning to me. The 81 Joe Charboneau floods back memories too. They all do of course. Fantastic. Thanks for sharing & glad this video came back into my feed.
Thanks so much Doug! So many great memories of collecting these cards in my younger days! I really appreciate you taking some time to watch!
51st video like - Didn't know 1988 Score had a traded set. Great looking card of Biggio. I don't even remember seeing the '84 Fleer Update card of Rose. Terrific card, just added that to my want list. Never seen the '87 Classic MLB Game of Bo Jackson, that is a fun card. Didn't know about that Barry Bonds error card, I can see why you don't want to add it at that price. I wouldn't either. Great video, I ended up adding 6 cards to my want list! Congrats on the set, Jim!!
Thanks so much Brian! I know this was a long video and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch it and leave an awesome comment! It really brings a smile to my face knowing that you found some cards here that you want to pick up!
I hope you had a nice weekend!
Wow, that brought back lots of memories! Very rookie era heavy as expected, I guess. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Eric! All the important rookie cards of the decade are definitely included in this set! As an 80s kid these cards give me great joy! I appreciate you watching buddy! Have a nice weekend!
Spectacular run Jim!
Wow what a amazing collection Jim congrats thanks for sharing this 😊
Thanks Isaac! I appreciate you watching bro! Have a great weekend! ✌🏻👊🏻👍🏻
Enjoyed every minute of the video, Jim! Love that set and the 80’s cards. Nostalgia for sure!
Thank you so much Reese! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch brother! 👍🏻 Hope all is well!
Man Jim, great job collecting all of those classics. What a collection, I watch until the very end and it is probably going to really cost me financially as I might just try to complete this as well! Minus Johnny Ray too😂
Hey man thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch! It was a lot of fun putting this set together and the cards and players brought back some great memories!
What a fun video Jim. I enjoyed seeing every card! I'm now obsessed with picking up the Delino DeShields OPC card! I've never seen it! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Warren! The Delino DeShields OPC is a fun card with that big old Expos cap!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Awesome collection congrats.
Thanks Orlando! I appreciate you taking some time to watch!
Damn impressive Jim! Congratulations on completing this!
Thanks Ed! It was a lot of fun to do! I appreciate you watching! Have a nice weekend!
Hey Jim congrats on completing this set. its no small task. nice job.
Thanks Ray! I had a lot of fun with it! I appreciate you watching!
Congrats on a great set Jim! Lot of great memories, and those dang error cards.
Thanks Scott! I really appreciate you taking some time to check out the video!
Initially, I thought I was on the wrong channel. A Yankee in the middle of a Red Sox guy's channel. Couldn't you at least covered up the NY emblem? :o) #4? Nice Jim. Watched the whole video Jim.
Hahahaa! Even as a Red Sox fan I can’t deny the impact that Don Mattingly had on the 80s! That being said I wish I had thought about covering up the NY emblem! 😂😂
I really appreciate you checking out the video Drew! Have a great weekend!
Congrats, Jim! Really cool to see (almost) the entire set.
Thanks Mike! I appreciate you watching!
I love this set and this video! Thanks for sharing it with us Jim. I have so many of these cards but can't bring myself to spend the grading fee for a lot of them!
Thanks Billy! I know a few guys that use the registry checklist to work on the set raw, they want the cards and down care about participating in the registry.
I appreciate you watching!
@PickerJimS That would be me because the ones I have graded are SGC and PSA.
Nice video! I was the #2 Mattingly Master Set owner until I sold my collection last year around the 2023 NSCC.
Hey man thanks so much for taking some time to check out the video and comment! I appreciate it! The Mattingly master set is a massive checklist, awesome accomplishment!
What an incredible set registry you’ve basically completed (no way in hell I’d pay that money for a Johnny Ray either). All of these are so great and bring back all the memories and nostalgia of my childhood. Love how you used the original write ups on the first 80. Incredible stuff my friend. Take care 👊🏻⚾️
Thanks for the awesome comment David! I really had a lot of fun working on this set, I have a lot of great memories of watching these players and collecting the cards!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch brother! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
@@PickerJimS … I’m curious if there are any that you would’ve included that weren’t (I.e. for me the ‘84 donruss Ryno and the ‘83 fleer Ryno)
That’s a great question David.
I definitely could see the argument where certain cards could be substituted into the list. I wouldn’t argue if either of the Rynos you mentioned made the list, especially the 84 Donruss which is a set I love. I could argue for some more Tiffany cards to be included as well. Another card I think could have made the list is the 1980 Topps Nolan Ryan.
@@PickerJimS .., oh yeah the ‘80 ryan is awesome… I’d also vote for the ‘82 Rickey Henderson
Great showcase of these cards. Makes me wanna go buy some of them haha. So many great players. Is there a 90s list? Congrats on being 4th on the registry as well! Thanks for sharing all 99 with us!
This was GREAT Jim!! What a trip down memory lane. You certainly have some cards I need…especially the Murphy reverse negative!
WoW Jim!!! Congrats!! Love that run!!
Thanks Gary! I think you were one of the OGs that I learned about this set from! 😁
I appreciate you watching my friend!
Wow Jim, incredible run! Congratulations! This was educational for me as I fell off the collecting scene completely for many years. Some cards I never saw.I really like that 1985 Donruss Tom Seaver. I remember you mentioning Joe Charboneau in another video. I'm thinking we still may have the opportunity to corner the Joe Charboneau market! Anyway, well done, Jim!
Thanks Gannon! I had a lot of fun with this, so many great memories of the players and collecting these cards in my youth! I always associate Fernando Valenzuela and Joe Charboneau with the start of the rookie card craze as we know it.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch! I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
Congrats! Haven’t seen too many psa 10 Gregg Jeffries. I’m still holding out hope for him…
Thanks so much Alan! Gregg Jeffries certainly did have a lot of hype! I appreciate you watching my friend! I hope all is well!
WOW nice man I love the 80's cards I probably have 75% of it but not all of mine are graded
Thanks! As a kid from the 80s I had a lot of fun doing this! I appreciate you taking some time to watch and comment!
That's a impressive set. Some great cards.
Thanks Jim! It’s taken a while and I’m happy to basically be done with it! I appreciate you watching!
That's awesome, Jim! I have a lot of these, just not graded. I've wanted to do a set like this, but I have too much stuff going on now, but maybe someday.
Thanks Dean! Knowing you I’m not surprised is you have all these cards in one form or another! I appreciate you watching! Hope all is well! Are you going to the National this year?
@PickerJimS yes I am going Thurs fri sat
Yes! 👍🏻 I look forward to seeing you again!
Awesome collection. I need to find a copy of that issue. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
LOVE IT JIMBO!
Thanks Eric! Really had a good time with this! I appreciate you watching brother! Have a great weekend!
Awesome Jim!
Thanks Mark! I appreciate you watching!
Great video. Doing the same project in raw so can appreciate the effort that went into this. Great project!
It’s really a fun set and I enjoyed working on it! Thanks so much for taking some time to watch and comment!
Very Impressive!!!
Thanks Brad! I appreciate you watching my friend! Have a great weekend!
I’m thinking about selling my modern baseball cards to get some of the legendary cards of the past it’s better than chasing all the products that’s coming out now
Thanks for the comment!
I agree, can’t go wrong with collecting vintage cards!
I really appreciate you taking some time to watch!
If I was gonna do a PSA set registry, this would be it brother…awesome video
Good job, Jim!
Thanks George! I appreciate you stopping by!
Sweet slabs my friend. How long did it take to get all of these? Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks for taking the time to watch this my friend! I appreciate it!
I have been casually working on this set for about 3 1/2 years. I could have gotten it done faster but I wanted to take my time and enjoy acquiring the cards I remember collecting in my younger years!
Thanks again for your support Chris!
Enjoyed it
Thanks John!
That's very cool!!!
Thanks for watching Mike! 👍🏻
holy smokes that 87 opening day barry bonds error sold for how much!!!
Hahaha! The Bonds/Ray error is a tough one. That being said I have a long list of cards I would buy before I would consider that one!
I don't listen to what the hall has to say , what Hit Parader for the top 100 or whatever albums on the list and i'm not listening to what Mike Payne has to say. he may have his favorite 80 cards of the 80's adding in 20 more like what you said about psa but that doesn't mean we all have to agree with him correct?
nice issue of Beckett ,
I like the 80's , tv shows , movies certainly music and sports cards
Just like when you think of the 70's you think of the Exorcist, Shampoo, Dogday Afternoon ,Serpico
All in the family, Jeffersons , Chips, Kojack , Starsky and Hutch
80's Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Michael Jackson, Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Stevie Ray Vaughn you also think of that 1986 Jose Canseco 1986
Donruss
I think that's sad about Puckett what happened to him!!!
yeah we stayed for the whole video
heres my top 10 list since 1980 is vintage although it's cards of the 80's i'm cutting off 1980 just to be fair 1980 is like 79, so there will be a new number1
10. 1987 Bo Jackson
9. 1983 Ryne Sandberg
8.. 1989 dale Murphy error only reason it's ahead of older card
7. 1984 Fleer/ Donruss Mattingly
6. 1984 Fleer Kirby Pucket
5.1983. Wade Boggs
4. 1983 Tony Gwynn Donruss
3. 1984 Topp s Don Mattingly
2. Cal Ripken 1982 Future stars
1. 1982 Traded Cal Ripkens
now is Beckett a magazine or price guide if you ask me I would say Sports illustrated is a magazine inside sports Beckett I would say is a price guide?
although you don't care about the ranking some others don't care about the rankings just curious I guess it's hard to be in first place congrads on
4th place.
which did you like better 1970's vinyl or 80's cassettes /cd's back then for the way we lived and for now the way some people live?
I understand it's their list but how is the other Ken Griffey 1989 upperdeck in first place when it came out at the end of the decade it doesn't have enough around time for the 80's it's like having a album released in 1988 and then saying it's the greatest album of all time what happened to the Beach Boys or or a band from the 60's. although the list is the 80's Griffey's card came out in 1989?
Thanks Mark! I know it was a really long video, I appreciate you watching.
This was a lot of fun, nothing official about it. Debating the rankings certainly can make for good conversation! Many people consider the 89 Upper Deck Griffey Jr an iconic card which is why it’s number 1 on the list.
I like your top 10, not sure I would have the 82 Topps Ripken at number 2 though.
Beckett certainly is a price guide but they also have articles, can it be a price guide magazine?
I love 70s and 80s music, can’t really pick a favorite but I do prefer cd over vinyl, just because they are easier and I’m lazy!😁
Have a nice week!
@@PickerJimS
I guess for the way we lived back then it's hard to pick , but for today Cd over vinyl
Love the 80’s
Me too! 😁 I appreciate you taking some time to watch!
I was subbed, but now wasn't. Dang You tube What a payne. Pun intended. That's a ton of slabs to store.
Thanks Henry! I appreciate you taking some time to watch!
Awesome stuff my guy @pickerJim #salute hope to see u at shriners in a few weeks
Thanks brother! 👊🏻👍🏻 I’ll be at Shriners all day on Saturday,!
I rank this video a 99 out of 100. Beautiful cards
Hahaha! Thanks so much for taking some time to watch and comment! I appreciate it!
@@PickerJimS I enjoyed it. Quite a collection. I’m working on it but far from it
