Good information and good job on building traditional arrows. I'm glad you addressed the importance of orienting the grain and nock positioning. I've been building arrows since the early 60's. You did a great job of showing the correct arrow building procedure. I remember using a feather burner and creating everything from mongolian to chevron shaped flethchings. The thing I remember the most when burning feathers was the smell. Thanks for sharing this video. Good job!

Thank you for this! I lost my dad a few years ago and need to build some arrows - it’s been a long since I made them with him and needed a refresher course. I appreciate this! Might have to try the washi tape method for fun, even though we do have a crester.

So sorry about your dad. Yes the washi tape is a great way to go and offers some variety that you just can’t get with a crester.

What are dimensions of cresting length wise? How far from nock end does crown spray go? How far up from tips for stain? Thanks

Start to finish? What about those of us who don't want to buy premium tapered arrows from them? I want to start with just the shaft. Not sure what tools I need from there.

Does all the layers and paint have a functional purpose? Or could I just stain the shafts and dip in polyurethane and fletch like that?

    • @MakingTraditional
      @MakingTraditional  2 роки тому

Great question Ben. It’s Purely aesthetic. You can just dip in poly if you wanted. The more coats of poly, the more durable/waterproof the shaft. I encourage you to play with different numbers of coats and see what you like best for finish! Let me know if you have anymore questions.
      Be blessed,
      -Brandon

Thanks Tony. I use minwax stains and general finishes performance poly top coat in satin.

I cut them as needed. Most arrows I make are 27-32” long.

I don't know about Traditional? It looks more like the archery INDUSTRY's version of Traditional.
How much does it cost to be traditional?
One hell of a lot when you add it up.
Nothing is affordabe you just get gouged on everything.
Look at new compound bows,.....$300.00 for a string.
I buy string and make my own,....then I went back in time and bought Fred Bear compound bow's because they shoot like a long bow,... you don't need sights and their quiet, and their a small game strength, you move the cables back to other pulley's and its deer poundage,......and the tear drop cable ends allow you to make and install your own strings.
Or you can use sights just don't use rubber tubing peeps their noisy.

Pretty arrows ars are great and actually do make dreamers shoot better????? BULLSH--. THE MOST RUDIMENTARY BASIC ARROWS GIVE THE BEST RESULTS IN HUNTING AND COMPETITION. LOOKS MEAN NOTHING, IF YOU CANT MAKE PLAIN WELL CRAFTED BASIC ARROWS FIRST.
