Fixed loads solid mass conversions for customers that had bought them kit off the Internet not one has come back with any clutch or engine, problems 🤷‍♂️, I fixed a genuine LUK DMF in my own car bmw 3 years and pretty sure it's slightly noisy allready

@RR Extra what's a scam?? Car manufacturer building cheap shit enginges with hollow crankshafts and camshafts and no real life expectancy and saying a single mass flywheel will break our crap engines 🤣

I do think DMF have a reason to exist. But it really is useless especially for a old Caddy TDI work van. Ones the DMF go bad you have a excuse to change clutch and the flywheel and call it good. But really I have not found a good solid excuse for why they are needed. But I think it have to do with the gearbox and low RPM lugging the gearbox. I bet it makes the fuel ratings and emissions better when lugging the engines.... So DMF are a MUST by VW.
And also DMF might be good for fast and harsh shifts + clutch mismanagement. When the DMF go bad lugging the engine really feels far worse then the SMF. With the Solid Flywheel you feel the lugging where as the DMF run smooder even now you know and hear is struggling. The gearbox and the engine do not like being in that state of everything slamming about and the DMF help smood it out. So I ques that is why they are needed? Bad drivers and greedy companies?
But really the 1.9 TDI engines we put SMF on have ran and driven like new. No reason or way to really tell if it is DMF or SMF for sure. But a bad DMF is :c
3 DMF to SMF vehicle now. One Caddy and one Golf TDI. Caddy Maxi TDI being the 3th that is going to get SMF when needed. + Checking the starter and change clutch.
They run as good as before but just not hiding your engine lugging anymore. But really with winter dub tiers the Gold TDI got so much grunt that you can drive around in 1k RPM with no shakes. Find myself engine braking and then forgetting what gear I'm in as it just runs so nice even with a SMF! Compare it with the Maxi TDI fully loaded and the DMF being on the way out... It feels like your clutch action do not line up with the movement of the clutch when going up hill start and stop. But no real clear signs that the DMF is bad outside of the log bock and the tiny TINY ticking yet that sometimes shows itself after a hard/warm drive. When the DMF is real bad YOU ARE GOING TO NOTICE IT TICK, I KNOW BY EXEPEIRENCE! Before it ticks like crazy mhe. Still ok? Just know SMF is the right thing to do for the 1.9 VW engines.
Btw. The 90HP Caddy TDI Mk2 was not a DMF vehicle? Same engine more or less... Different injection that gives it 105 ish HP. Internal water pump? Something like that.
But for petrol cars it might be more useful to have a DMF. Not sure. Know only that a heavy 1.6 petrol car with DMF was really smood to shift and release the clutch on without having even a chance to getting used to the car or anything. Was very surprised! No RPM tach and a bunch of drunks around me but the crappie French thing was wonderful to shift and drive for what it was. Might as well have been a automatic but no it was just a heavy duck with no tach and drunks. Did not struggle to do anything in a NA 1.6 from 2005-2010? What?

_"fixed a problem that didn't exist"_ Incorrect, the problem has existed since the development of high output four cylinder diesel engines. These have significantly higher torsional vibration at low RPM high load situations (i.e. where most of the knuckle dragging public who are too stupid to understand the implications use them). The torque peak under these conditions can be sufficient to damage the drive train and causes NVH.
Just because you don't understand the issue, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Manufactures strive to knock every penny of the manufacturing costs of cars, they simply wouldn't it a significantly more expensive part into a car unless it offered benefits. Manufacturers also don't get any significant benefit from these parts being replaced (though dealers and independants probably do), so that argument makes no sense at all.

Same family of gearbox as the old Mk2 Caddy (02j) which came with solid flywheel from the factory. I had one of those for 100k with no issues. The SMF conversion in my '08 Caddy has been in about 15 - 20k, again no issues. My van tends to be quite heavily laden due to using it for work and is also remapped to 140bhp. I didn't care if it wasn't as smooth due to it being an old work van but as it turned out there was no noticeable difference.

I love sensible modifications. The modern cars high level of refinement perceived quality are partly due to thousands of improvements in componants combined they make the car feel more refined. When the vehicle gets to an age when its no longer dealer serviced and parts wear out downgrading a few parts is the realistic way to keep a car on the road. Can anyone tell the difference in refinement when driving?? probably not as the as the car will drive a lot better as a broken part has just been replaced. DMF concentric slave cylinder free wheel alternator pulley electric water pump are just just some of the parts I would rather not have.

I intended to convert it when my kids grew up and we put a 2nd hand 1.6l engine in although it was weaker than the original 2litre it was still a nippy van. I have a tourer caravan and the idea was to put the cooker/sink/fridge in it. I also had a night heater out of the van I took the engine from and I was going to buy a rock n roll bed. I has massive plans and then for personal reasons I parted with the Tourneo. I still have my stuff but I'm actually after a transit/van with the high top. What will you do at the new unit If Pete is not close by? Is the unit far away? Hope you can work something out. Do you ever think of investing in a recovery truck?

I'd like to see you keep that van even just for the big move, it would prove its a good decision. With the viewers on the channel it should add value. Twin side loading doors etc its a cracking van for mobile work of any kind. Led to believe heavier springs are used in the friction plate of these solid flywheel kits to reduce vibration.

I've always changed dual mass flywheels for solid flywheel never had a problem you might as well keep hold of it get your name on the side and keep tools or what ever in the back you won't get issues from it

I beg to disagree, I suggest not to keep tools in the back, as lots of tool theft from vans ...

I did a solid flywheel conversation on a mark 6 golf a few years ago, I had a lot of starter motor problems afterwards maybe a coincidence? I don’t know?

You will gain a small amount of torque with a solid flywheel than a DMF

My 06 2.0 diesel(single mass) has done 240k, just changed the clutch and flywheel last week for the first time. Other than consumables (brakes, tyres, belts etc) it’s cost me nothing in nearly 1/4 million miles
