Addendum - Although it took me awhile to download this Ivory 3 version and finally giving it a run through, I am just blown away. Comparing Ivory 2 to Ivory 3 is night and day. The added String Section by Audiobro is amazing in that it is "just-right" and not overpowering. After having downloaded Ivory 3, I immediately saw the download for Ivory 4 which I did but haven't yet launched as I like Ivory 3 just the way it is. It is difficult to explain why I like Ivory 3 over 2 however the sound is much fatter and "alive" and was most definitely worth the wait. As I am playing this through my Kawai VPC-1 grand piano controller, going back to an acoustic piano would be difficult as I have the feel and sound of the real thing in a much smaller package. For anyone who hasn't yet tried the Synthogy Ivory 3 American Concert D, you got gotta try it.
Even more beautiful than it already has been, Sir. The tears of gratitude and comfort in our ABBA'S presence was the perfect way to end my day. Thank you so much for sharing your valuable time and lovely gift of music. Your music ministry matters. 🙏🏾📖🕊💯🎼🎵🎶🎹🎧😇 Stay encouraged and blessed.
You can definitely hear some of the modeling in the mid register. I think Synthogy use a hybrid of the two of sampling and modelling don't they? It definitely sounds a bit thin, could be some of the reverb too. Not bad though. The sympathetic resonance sounds really nice though, so does the bass and higher notes.
By and large, I find that each piano library developer has their own signature sound, influenced obviously by what the like. I find that the Synthogy pianos, tend towards the brighter side, which is not a bad thing. And of course each person who demo's these products adds their own spin on the sound, from their personal style. Also each has their own spin on stereo width and distance of microphones from the strings. Cool demo, that demonstrates what the piano sounds like. In 2024, we definitely have a lot of choice, if we can afford these libraries, but probably the more important issue, is - can we play, cos I think 80% of what a piano sounds like, is more about the musician behind the keyboard. The best sampled piano, without the skills to play it, means nothing.
I agreed, granted the Steinway is already a brighter piano than the average grand piano. If you go dig through PianoTeq or VSL where they have a ton of different pianos, steinways stick out as the brighter option, just like in real life. I think people that spend a ton of time in VSTs also forget how much the high frequencies are tamed in some of the more produced libraries, at least that's been my experience with younger musicians that grew up in the box (not saying that's you)
Love your reviews. Please could you do make a video about your setup in order to let people like me who want to start with vst instruments to understand the hardware behind? Please please 😊
First Sam is a Great piano Player….and a great improviser…..and this ivory 3 American D …of course sound great…but what wouldn’t not sound good under the fingers of Sam ?…
tengo el ivory 2 , y de todos los piano que he visto me parece el mejor , tiene mas cuerpo . he probado muchos plugins , pero el ivory 3 sera posiblemente el mejor de todos
This sounds good but I don't like when you add too much reverb. When you hit the keys hard it sounds a little "digital" To me the Synchron Fazioli F212 is the king of piano VSTs But that's just like my opinion man.

Which velocity curve on the vpc-1 are you using?
Very "woody" piano, especially in the middle register... love it. Thank you, Sam!

Lovely playing 5:25
Wow, very nice!!!!
Have you checked out VI Labs' newly released Steinway D? I haven't tried it myself yet, but it sounds really delicious.
Yeah, it’s my inbox, I’m going to try it this week I think

Ivory 2 American is my favorite of the VST's I have. Using a Studiologic SL88 grand- is it worth the upgrade for $139?

Like the library but like your playing even more)
Love this way to play. Real presence.
Sam, could you reveal what is your master keyboard? :) Nice touch and response, I see.
I'm looking for a premium Steinway library and am torn between Ivory 3 American D and the ViLabs Modern D.
Would you please review Embertone's Walker 1955 Concert D
Will Vi Labs Modern D review be coming?
possibly, I would need to get them to send it to me.
Modern D VIlabs or this Ivory 3 American D for the Korg d1? If only you can have one
Haven't checked out VIlabs yet :(

Synchron is great. To be clear I'm not adding any reverb, it's just whatever is in the preset. You can use your own verb and make it all dry.
Why do you never reply to comments
Sorry I try to respond to as many as possible, but I'm pretty busy sometimes and can't get around to all of them. Thanks for watching!
which midi keyboard does Sam use?
Korg D1
