- Tommy Emmanuel covers Arthur Smith's famous "Guitar Boogie" using the original trophy 1930 Martin guitar used in Smith's recording, given to him by Chet Atkins. Tommy prefaces, talking fondly of his first meeting with Smith. Live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles 2-15-2012.
sacrificed more than u can imagine to get this proficient. Martin Taylor jazz guitarist said he practices a lot, but couldn’t believe how much TE practices… boy does it show
In a past life, Tommy was a metronome.
for a guitarist, after watching this, you can either give up or be inspired. i'm inspired.
One of the best versions of heard from Tommy in a while. He seemed to go downhill for a year or two, but I think he's back in action again :)
Rock on Tom!
To all who wish to disk TE, keep in mind the number of hours, the pain and the effort he put into his God given talent. Each picker has a different way of doing it. TE is an exceptional individual who should be appaluded for his talent. I enjoy hearing from all pickers.
+Jerry Burns Exactly. I am a guitar player, and I have only a select few of his songs what I think to be "mastered". It is painstaking, but it has an undeniably awesome sense of accomplishment that comes with getting his songs down.
Theres no one better on the guitar than this guy!!!
Their is a speed at playing beyond which it is no longer music to the ears. Sure it is technically perfect and clever, but….
@@williamoneill9573 Well that is just HIGHLY subjective pal.
Tommy Emmanuel...Drummer First, Bass Player second and Guitarist last (by his own words).
This is what that combination makes!!
I'm going to practice the drums some more....
God damn it. I've been playing for 6 years solidly and thought I was making progress. Having just watched this video I want to cry....I can't even look at my guitar now!
I saw TE live in Cincinnati about 10 years ago and he was phenomenal. I saw Al DiMeola in the 70's and he is the only guitarist I have seen live that I would rate above TE.
Arthur Smith is the person who wrote (and made famous) Guitar Boogie, and is the man of whom Tommy speaks. Chet Atkins is the one who gave Tommy the 1930 Martin guitar that he's playing in this video.
Jesus christ what the hell!! This guy is just ridiculously good! Man I gotta practice my butt off....
There are without doubt some truly amazing guitar players in the world and
I've no doubt someone will disagree but I think Tommy is probably the best
I've ever seen and believe me , I've been around long enough to have seen a few .
Espetacular. Simplesmente fantástico
Wow this is amazing sounds like more that just one guitar is being played!
Tommy plays 300+ gigs a year, and in most of them people will want to hear this piece.
I can imagine having played this piece over 4,000 times in his life he might feel tempted to depart from the basic tune.... LoL wouldn't you?
Personally my favourite versions are the two he did on Woodsongs, one with Frank. Though still flamboyant and skilled They were more concise and controlled, due to the radio format.
... However for live performances the audience would feel cheated if Tommy didn't 'go for it' out there, in the name of entertainment.
Saw him on Weds night. Disappointingly, he didn't play this, but it still was a jaw dropping performance with many highlights.
Lots of great tutorials for upcoming guitarists.
My face was just melted from a acoustic
The GOAT!!
Hey, I was there! Thanks for posting!
HE is just amazing!!!
Incredible
love it love it
gets more outrageous everytime i see this song. Love it:}
very nice
Awsome playing

Да,пожалуй равных Томми гитаристов в мире очень-очень мало !!!
Whoever dislikes this.. well your opinion doesn't count anyways.
OMHG! Incredible!
You’re the best man
tremendous!
Stray Cat's..they do this...ok not like this ,we love You Tommy !
topppppppp de mais o melhor
i like it!!!! i like it!!!!
Tommy has played many great versions of this piece. This one is not my favourite though, he kinda wanders to far off the reservation with it.
beeeeeeeeeeeeeest versioooooooooooooon eeeeeeeeeeeverrrrrrrrrrr!!!! :DDD
Bravo!
Unreal.
As much as I love Tommy's playing I still hear a Telecaster not a Martin.
çe mec est un tueur !!! grandiose
damn, im in 6 yrs too, but cuz of a tendinitis i need to wait :( seeing tommy always makes me play my guitar ... however playing it has the opposite effect :D
I wonder what guitar pickup is in that Martin
me too !! me too !! me too !! hahaha !!
imagine what this whole generation of kids who are growing up on tommys playing are going to be like.
its scary
Thank you very much for sharing this great video! One question: Are you sure he is talking about Chet Atkins? Because Guitar Boogie was written and first recorded by Arthur Smith, and usually Tommy mentions how he got to play Guitar Boogie with Arthur Smith. The Chet stories revolve around different pieces of music, as far as I know.
TE is a tour de force.
КРАСАУЧИК....!!!!
do not attempt to do this at home! hahaha
Gr8
I don't think tommy will mind.
He just can't resist the urge to show off....!
He's made his point time and time again...smooth out a little...!
see? I told you he is great!
incribleeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
methinks he lost a fist fight with a kangeroo as a boy and thats the only way his left hand moves like that..... evolution at work !!
thanks, I've made the changes.
Please what IS ThE AMP?
Tommy was getting a bit physical with an old Marty. Careful!! It's 2013 now. 83 years old and delicate to start with. The older she gets, the better we do! That'd be the perfect remark for a centenarian gent to describe his marriage and relationship to the girl that really took his breath away on first meeting. Does that make sense?
umm wow..
this guitar look like a Martin & co 00-15 *o*
B#stard!
Lol!
Amazing stuff!
Little Martin???
I wonder if Tommy's arm isn't made out of muscle and tendon?
Please do not try to repeat it! you may get crying and break your guitar and then break your fingers!:)))
I really like TE but sometimes less is more
Kevin Jones I said that when Gary Moore was trying to melt Albert Kings face off. Moore with 18 marshal stacks and a LP with some super charged humbucker. Poor ol Albert didn’t have a chance with his little Fender Twin and Telecaster. Man did I get shit for that comment.
"sometimes"
Why have a metronome when you already have your left foot
heck, now I believe in Unicorns.
It's an acoustic guitar, what the hell are you talking about?
Fastest version ever?
12 лет назад Томми (a la Travolta) мне нравится больше.
god guitar ..
only tommy Emmanuel eric Clapton
3:48 turbo mode :D
Paganini !
agreed, and with the wastegates screaming!!!!
Arthur played it with soul. Tommy is trying to twin it, good, but not as great as Arthur.
Don't be jealous
That is ridiculous. Jealousy is not a nice trait to have.
are u tiered
drilling a hole to install a pickup in such a collector piece is really a shame !
Please don't take the Lord's name in vain.
So the guy's got a few chords , so what?
hd my ass XD
a pity he does not dance to it while playing....
this destroyed me
4:18 - 4:31
joke of month
with human hands lol
Great version, but a shame he couldn't get dressed for the ocassion. Scruffy git.
showoff
Don't cry
This is an insult to Arthur Smith! the timing, melody and simplicity of the original song was the beauty of it. Don't like my comment? listen to the original by Arthur Smith!
+Hoagie Burger Your comment is an insult to everyone who are playing their own rendition of any song. Ever heard the term improvise?
Opinions are like assholes even mine, everyone's got one and that's mine. Tommy Emmanuel is a great guitar player no doubt I myself don't care for his Corny stage presence, he seems to always want to be front and center.............Chet Atkins never did that. Allan just by your comment I know you know and appreciate good picking, please don't judge me on this one comment, lets share some tunes.Listen to Arthur Smith's original 1946 recording, and if you play a guitar give it a try, I've tried, can't do it. To me it reminds me of when someone sings the National Anthem and changes it all around.............because they can't do it traditionally so they try to make it their own. Some songs are sacred and Guitar Boogie is one, again Al that's that opinion of mine. Peace Brother
Hoagieburger
Oh and Alan you improvise when you don't have the ability to do stuff like it was done originally, you want to improvise, write your own song if not show some respect for the original artist Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!
dude, just chill out please
@@hoagiebrgr damn I've seen some ridiculous comments on UA-cam but mate, this is awesome. Well done you utter numpty 🤣😂
