to anybody wondering the "moisturizing oils" are avocado, extra virgin olive and coconut. these are the only ones i know of and think there are unless i'm wrong. anything else can be a sealing oil minus essential oils. castor, grapeseed, etc etc. hope that helps someone!

Sis, you did an excellent job creatively developing this content! I learned from your presentation and articulation, and I'm old enough to be your mom! Great job!
Thank you💕 now look at oils soooo different. I will be in the grocery section rather than the hair section from now on. I found this video because over 6 months I’ve been trying different oils still on the hunt for the best one. I truly wish a lot of us had been taught this info when we were kids lol. My poor hair has been severely neglected over 20 years. Now she gets princess treatment only lol.
Your discussion on sealing vs moisturizing oils is totally enlightening for me, College Curls! You are AWESOME! You remind me of the parable…give a person a fish you feed her for a day, teach her how to fish and you feed her for a lifetime! You are an awesome teacher! The air where I live is so dry water poured on a plate can dry in 20-30 minutes. Yikes! What is it doing to my hair? Applying coconut oil to my 2B, 2C hair was a frizz fix for just a few hours! I can’t wait to identify some sealing oils!
Thank you for taking the time to break this down. I love knowing the science behind it. I love making my DIY but now I feel more justified in adding one oil and eliminating others. Everyone has potions that work but I need to know why.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching and this awesome feedback! Yes, everyone does have their potions and you really just figure them out through trial and error, but knowing the science definitely helps have less errors in your trials lol
My natural hair is colored and I use alot of heat to stretch, so was so dry and damaged. Did a hot oil 2x followed by a hair mask, and it has saved my hair. Feels and looks amazing! So glad I found your channel. This saved my hair as I thought Id have to chop it off. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you soooo much for making this video!!!, There is so much misinformation or lack of info out there and this video was sooo informative and helpful! Thank you. Also, love your energy ♥
could you make a video discussing the different porosities of hair? I am a recent subscriber and you explain the science in such an easy way to understand 😅❤️
So what are examples of the moisturizing curls? The sealing oils? Which ones are more moisturizing than others, or a combination of both? Video was very informative- TYFS
Thanks so much! I'm still a little confused, is it possible to make a go to list of actual oils and which is which like is coconut oil a moisturizer or sealant?
It's a moisturizer for scalp. Ex. Blue magic, Dax 🤷♀️ The sealant is olive oil, Jamaican Castor oil and etcetera. The products to grease scalp, is the moisturizer. The products that sits on your strands of hairs are the sealants. I think that's what she's saying.🙏🙏💚💚💚💚
Well I love blue magic hair grease also my hair is locked I also use Jamaican black castor oil and tea tree oil I just recently started try aloe vera juice and go over to buy some 100% pure aloe vera oil
I've been using hair grease more lately and my hair has been loving it! I need to do separate videos on the benefits of that and jamaican black castor oil soon! Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
Well done!! Nothing wrong with dropping some science on the community. Not everyone likes using natural oils but for those who would like to give them a try, this video provides a good understanding of their functions.
Girl it was still confusing. Please tell me what oils to use for moisturizing for high porosity hair and which one seals??? I’m slow but want to know lol
Hmm, so I guess my question is if you do a hot oil treatment after shampooing do you still need to deep condition? I feel like you should alternate between the two because you could be over doing it.
Love me some mineral oil tho can't cap. Of course not for a hot oil treatment but my high density, low porosity, course strands LAUGH at a regular sealing oil. Drinks it up like its a moisturizing oil tbh. But those big particles in mineral oil will highkey keep me moisturized for a couple days to a week depending.
You know what Jonathan, I think I actually need to make a video on the benefits of mineral oil because since making this video I have learned alot about how it can be useful especially for the hair with characteristics like mine and yours. Thank you so much for watching, pointing this out, and commenting! :)
Interesting! What happens when mixing moisturizing and penetrating oils together? I.e. mixing rice bran and coconut oil or another mix of multiple oils? Will the moisturizing oils have deeper penetration, less penetration, or about the same?
Actually nothing out of the ordinary happens! The moisturizing oil will still penetrate, but the sealing one will still sit on top the strand! Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
So I am looking at 2 products: Coconut Butter and Grape Seed Oil (GSO). The CB has 14g of Sat. fat and 0 of the mono or poly fats...the GSO has 14f fat and 2g of sat fat, 0 poly and mono. Does this clearly indicate that both of these are sealing? Your example compared one to the other's Total Fat as nearly the same. Could you clarify these for me?
Good question! Plant based oils are oils that come from actual plants. While you would think vegetable oils come from vegetables, that’s not completely true. Vegetable oils contain a mix of other chemicals, compounds, and additives that are mixed in during the processing of the oil for different reasons. Long story short, they’re just not as pure and natural as the plant based ones
It depends on your hair to be honest (how well it retains moisture), but in a drier climate, tour hair could likely benefit from incorporating oil into your regular, daily moisturizing routine. I use oil in both my regular routine and hot oil treatments usually twice a month when my hair appears fuller or lacking in luster/shine no matter how much I moisturize with other products. If you’re looking for good daily moisturizing methods that incorporate oils, I would suggest either the LCO method or LOC method. Here are the links to both - LOC method: ua-cam.com/video/9mrXruHMtMo/v-deo.html and LCO method: ua-cam.com/video/GwuJQTtxgys/v-deo.html I hope these help! 😊💕
There isn't a hard rule for applying oils before or after showering, but, if you have the option, doing so before showering may help the oil absorb into your hair and scalp better as a steamy shower would open your pores more. And it can be a plus if you're a little messy after oiling your hair too lol :)
Thank you for your support! 😊💕 & Great question! In all honesty, I’m not completely sure if there is a minimum percentage that must be met, but I don’t believe there is. Naturally, the higher the percentage is would make it stronger (as either a moisturizing or sealing oil), but I haven’t heard of there being a threshold that has to be met for it to even qualify to begin with. 💕
Is canola oil fine? Or extra virgin olive oil? I'm not sure cause if those are then I don't have to buy new oil. And I'm pretty broke (well obviously I'm 13😂) so I'm trying not to spend money that much😂, also I'm curious💕
I don’t recommend canola oil just because I haven’t personally used it or heard of too many people doing so, but I have seen claims that it could be beneficial. DEFINITELY yes for the olive oil though - SO many great benefits and cheap enough for “broke” people of all ages! 😂💕
Question !! 6:33 min : What were the other oils you left behind in the "no" cool kids section Thank you so so much for this video. This is so so amazing!!
Yes you can! I actually do this for my hair - I use a mix of avocado oil, olive oil (moisturizing) and Jamaican Black Castor Oi (sealing) as my daily hair oil and for my hot oil treatments. Loving it! :)
Tea tree is an essential oil so it’s really not categorized as either one. It’s intended to be used more as something you can use as needed for its benefits (that’s why they usually come in small bottles) and meant to be applied directly to your scalp.

Thank you because it helped me. I was doing it wrong before.
But oils can't be moisturizing, only things with water can be moisturizing ...oils can be penetrating oils or sealing oils
@Kesha Hunt I ain't listening to you. They call moisturizing for a reason.
