The 25 year old Bowmore is a lovely dram and is my preference over the the 40 year old, having a better balance in terms of smoke and sherry. Thank you gentlemen, good review.

    Hi horst,
    Love watching your videos.
I was just wondering if you be shooting a new video the living cask that you made a while ago.
Would love to see you and ben have a tasting of it.

First time I've ever had to correct Horst on something. But my dear Horst, you are wrong about the alcohol parlaying your taste buds if you hold the whisky on your tongue for a relatively long period of time. The reason is ... your saliva is immediately diluting the alcohol. If you put 1 tsp of whisky in your mouth, then hold it in your mouth for say, 10-20 seconds .. and then spit it out, (though yes, kinda gross) you will then have quite a bit more liquid than you put in your mouth. The only way alcohol will paralyze your taste buds is if it is at a very high abv, in the 60 percentile and up, then .. within the first few seconds of such a high abv whisky in your mouth, it will take longer to dilute to a more tolerable strength, that it will still have an effect on your taste buds. But for a typical strength whiskies, the longer you have it in your mouth, the more aroma you get, and once the aroma hits its peak, it decays and weakens and becomes ESPECIALLY easier to hold in your mouth and then to swallow. Most people who don't drink for the art and taste of it, but rather to just get drunk, think they are "tough' when they just down a shot, yet at the same time, they down the shot because they think it's EASIER to swallow whisky by just downing it and not having to taste it and keep it on the tongue longer cause they don't want the taste or burn .. and yet, it's actually HARDER to do it that way because it's painful to swallow, it burns! That's why they always go "ahhhh" afterwords. The longer it's in your mouth, the EASIER it becomes to keep it in your mouth and then to swallow. Just ask your son Ben, he usually keeps a sip in his mouth for hours! :P

Nice review. I love the 18, so I'll have to give this a try if I can find it. No store where I live carries Bowmore, so I usually have to renew my stock when I'm in New Jersey for the summer.

I much prefer the Bunna 25, Talisker 25 or Laphroaig 25 for OBs :) or for my special occasions the the Caol Ila 30 OB ;)

48 should be the minimum. Best is always cask strength or 100 proof

Horst wasn't too happy that he paid for that one. I think if he has to spend almost 300 euros he'll rather have a sherry bomb. Me too!
