Good video Steve, this is my first full time going into winter. Your right about the first 30 min being the hardest of the day. So I really appreciate all you have done and do for the window cleaning community. I’ve learned so much from your videos and you are an inspiration for sure. Keep it up and thanks again.
Hey Steve, this will be my 3rd winter cleaning in Colorado. I've found on cold days that you need multiple gloves to change out throughout the day. Another trick I learned from a 20 year window cleaner is using those blue pvc rubber gloves you see at any hardware store and some gloves inserts. I use the inserts I got with my Dakine winter gloves. We do a fair amount of rappelling in the winter also and I've found that it's essential to wear waterproof pants. I picked up a Coleman rain suit at a thrift store and I just use the pants over whatever I'm wearing. If you know how to layer and have the right gear then you can do just about anything in the cold. Also having a quality neck gator is super helpful on cold days. Hope this helps any new guys gearing up for their first winter!
I just wanted to say it will be a sad day when your channel ends but obviously I do know that nothing lasts forever. I'd like to say that you have developed some great editing skills over the years and I would hate to see that wasted. Hopefully you could find some way to monetize those skills down the road. Also "YES" winter sucks, I am here in Michigan staring down the barrel. For me it isn't so much about getting out in it everyday since I am mostly residential I do have a few store fronts and I become soft when I do have to head out.
Tadd McMichael thank you Tadd!! That’s definitely something on the horizon I’m hoping I can use what I’ve learned here for something different or similar in the future. Winter is rough on every window cleaner, some times just want to move to Hawaii and not worry about the seasons
I feel you when you say “it’s winter - it sucks and everything is colder and takes longer, but nobody is going to come out and inspect”... can’t get anymore honest than that. It’s important to do quality work. But customer’s are reasonable and they’re not expecting gold. Too cold for them to come out. They just want the glass cleaned with no streaks. Hope you stay positive and stay consistent with the channel. You’re the most organic I’ve witnessed on UA-cam. No drama or unnecessary bs. Just your honest perspective and feedback with your tools. All the details and processes you go through and take the time to share your thorough spot-on findings. You can’t get that just anywhere. I’m opting to use sorbo channels and soft rubbers in the winter and ettore brass and master rubber in the hotter times - because of the feedback from your channel and some of the research I’ve done too. Was gonna go stainless but decided brass being you can cut custom channels with it to cut your work time if you stay busy 💪🏽👌🏽 keep it going Steve O! I know it’s tiring but lots of us out here still value your word and expertise very much. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Wow.. I am just seeing this for the first time and I am thankful you didn't give up the channel !! Nov. - April sucks for me. mentally, physically and motionally
I hate the cold too 😅 It can definitely be rough out here at times.. working out of a truck sucks so bad. Snow freezes in the back 😕 I look up to you for how much content you make. People don’t understand how much time it takes to do what you do. Thank you for everything you do for this community and always keeping me inspired! Keep goin!! 🙌🏻🤙🏻
Just getting started. Waiting on my gear to be delivered. Hope this is a good side hustle coz my restaurant income is starting to stretch thin. Awesome videos man great content thanks
One of the best channels out there! Do you set your customers expectations for winter cleaning or just plow thru it as mentioned? Heading into my first winter to try to stay alive financially! 😎
I gotta say it will be very sad when you stop making content for your youtube channel, my whole window cleaning business was built through what I have learnt on your channel, I started out not know a thing about window cleaning and now I have one of the largest window cleaning business in my city. Its very interesting looking at what you have to go through in winter cause I have never seen snow in my life cause I live in Australia and we mainly just see a shit load of rain and very strong winds in winter. I do hope your channel continues for awhile longer, I really like all of your content.
SteveO, I have a question. I am reading that a lot of window cleaners are not doing interiors as much because of damages that do and don't occur. Is it better to do exterior only? Getting paid is the most important thing to a small business for it to survive.
Steve o i hope you keep the channel going you do a great job with it buddy and just to let you know i appreciate all the hard work you put into it ...thank you...
I hate cleaning windows in winter but I'm busy until December. The worst is no use of my Xero wfp. 4 or more so weeks then time to shut it down and leave Vail for some surfing.
Winter came early here in Montana. Been cleaning with highs in the teens. I always have multiple pairs of neoprene gloves that I can change between during the day due to the fact sometimes they get wet inside from sweating. Nice video Steve thanks.
It doesn't look like Florida! LOL. Steve in past 6 weeks I have had 2 separate Post Construction Cleans which have turned upside down in my opinion! We have successfully performed PC previously. However, my understood scope of work and their imagined scope of work has us providing more labor! Typically we would charge 3 to 4 times more than typical window cleaning due to the obvious labor. The last 2 PC jobs we only charged 2x's ultimately paying out of my pocket for our guys to complete the job. I would have come out ahead if I gave them two movie tickets and told them to enjoy their afternoon! What can you share in regards to conveying industry standards as to what is typically expected from a window cleaner and other trades that leave adhesive tape, improperly applied drywall mud around metal frames and stucco splatter on the glass? Is there something posted in our industry that explains multiple levels of post-construction cleaning? Level 1 Dust, clean and wipe down frames Level 2 Dust, clean, wipe down frames with limited scraping to remove debris from glass Level 3 Dust, clean, wipe down frames with heavy scraping to remove debris from glass Level 4 Dust, clean, wipe down frames with heavy scraping and removal of drywall mud and stucco. What are your thoughts? I was also told to research Gary Bower's information. Your videos are therapeutic!
wow... this would be the worst! I'm glad that I live in Australia and don't have to deal with winter like this. Although consistent 40 degree celsius days are a different thing haha
Idk if this is just me but I feel like I have to add a different amount of pressure when I use excelstor2.0 with errors brass compared to a sorbo... if I don’t add a good amount of pressure I get skip marks.. did you have to adjust your technique alittle for the 2.0?
Life has chapters.. whenever you close a chapter you open a new one. I miss Colorado Springs sometimes but I'm thankful to clean in Florida instead of there.
Hey man good videos. I live in Bergen Norway its cold here with the snow in winter but it also rains on average 260 days a year. Im out every week day working as normal.. Were 90% commercial. Mainly shops restaurants and bars. In summer we try to do some Hotels ( full building) and in winter -15c days were still out doing the shops. We also do private so some afternoons I do them. I enjoy the cold and winter as no-one is around to get in the way. I use 2 types of windshield fluid, one goes down to -25c but it smells of Tequila so not good if you've had a beer the night before hahaha. Cheers for the videos
Just wait till winter!!! lol Yeah, I buy straight methanol alcohol from a race shop. $25 for straight methanol. It'll do about 50 or so 5 gallon buckets of solution. That's about $475 in savings per 50 buckets. If you buy the drum, it's even cheaper.
@@SteveOthewindowcleaner You've got employees, so the 55 gallon drum makes the most sense. When I started off, I was trained to buy windshield washer fluid. Then I learned that it's cheaper to just buy the methanol. The cool thing is that you can add just enough methanol to keep the water from freezing and conserve it greatly. When the methanol begins to evaporate, the water will start to slush and then add just a little splash to the bucket and you're good to go.
I've learned so much from your channel and I will miss the uploads "if" you decide to part ways with the channel. I cant even imagine how time consuming it us having your own business plus trying to put out content on the channel....has to be exhausting at times.....So THANKYOU for all the advice, how to's, reviews, montages, etc very much appreciated!! And yes WINTER SUCKS!! I'm not looking forward to the -40° days were I'm basically cleaning with pure methanol 🥶🥶
@@Scuba-itis The rubber shreds on the ends way too quick and the glide across the glass due to the increased pressure on the ends creates too much drag and skips way too busy. SteveO, you need to come to SW Florida. People’s idea of cold here is 65 degrees when they all take out their puffer coats and headbands. You would have waaaaay more work here than you can imagine!
Imagine taking winters off and instead go traveling 🤪 At least that’s what I want to work towards 💪🌏🛫🛫🛫 I love your content brother and respect what you choose to do. ✌️

I'm in Ballarat & the winters here are cold by Aussie standards but warm compared to this!
I never use straight washer fluid it turns the tracks blue and it takes too much time to clean
