And don't make microplastic shavings and set it on fire while wasting a good pen or spoon people, just do exactly the same thing with a piece of wood or inner bark until you get to the dry part of the shavings. This works most places outside the rainforest or icy tundra.

First off, I was born and raised in Kansas City Missouri. We most certainly need good barbeque to survive! It’s genetic. When we travel outside of our state (unless we go to Texas. One thing I've seen done with the grass/reed instrument, is several with different lengths of opening to make different notes and then they were lashed between two sticks like a ladder and then played like a primitive harmonica, bulky, not exactly in tune but fun when you're bored enough!

One, you don't cook meat over flame. You cook it over coals, so not much of a chance of ash getting on the meat. If your that worried, take some aluminum foil with you. I cook lots of meat over fire in the summer. Ash does not bother me.

They do come with some cuttlery but they are usually opaque desert and not clear. You could however make some sleeping blinder glasses out of them. 😛

Using leaves can improve the taste by helping to maintain the moisture content of meat while it is cooking so it doesn't become dried out.
