    I bought a large table pad from Bed, Bath & Beyond and attached to my wall. It has worked out really well. My blocks stay in place and makes it so easy to lay out my quilts. ❤

    I bought a queen size flannel sheet and stapled it to the wall with an ordinary stapler. I put the staples fairly close together. It works great as a design wall and is huge.

    I am so grateful for your video. I have purchased the felt tiles. I've never seen pins with hooks and paperclips, so I will have a look at them. I already have the vacuum cleaner. I have the silicone brush to clean my machine. I saw you had one but didn't use it?.
    I already have the same guide, so I will put that on for the binding.
    Thank you so much for sharing. ❤🎉😊

    I've always used felt for my design wall. Craft felt at joanns is inexpensive and use your coupon. I then mounted the felt with spray glue onto a sheet of blue insulation (from Lowe's) it's sturdy and the sheet can be trimmed to your desired size.

    What fun items! I bought the Juki LEFT compression foot for binding (I think that’s what it’s called). It makes sewing the final stitches on the front very easy and straight. You can look it up to see how it works, if you’re interested. But, it was pricey. I got it last year during Juki junkies holiday sale. I’ve never been sorry. The pad looks interesting too. I’d love to have the design wall, but I don’t have a wall for it! lol Thanks for a very informative video!

    I bought kaffe fassetts design wall fabric it cost just over £20 I attached it to calico and then used it to cover the front of my large kallux unit ( from IKEA) that I store my fabric in it keeps my fabric clean and out of light and works well as my design wall , as I too don’t have a wall to use. Like your purchases.

    Pulling dust out is fine, blowing it in is the problem. My latest joy is a very small shop vac that I can use mini attachments with. I find I joyfully clean my machine every two to three bobbins. Thanks for the video. I love finding things that make my sewing life easier and more enjoyable.

    • @debcavan
      @debcavan 3 місяці тому

      @@sewbeitquilts I had a hand held battery operated vac and it was just an odd angle and didn't work well for me. My little shop vac is just behind and to the side of me so I just swivel and hit the button that is on the top. I made a bag for the little attachments if I want a different one than is on the hose. There is an adapter so the little attachments fit the two standard sizes of vacs that have a round hose. I do clean my machine more often now. The little attachments are only $8. I look forward to more of your finds.

    Thank you for sharing all of your new purchases! I have a small hand held vacuum with attachments that are super tiny and they allow me to get into my machine and clean it more thoroughly along with the tiny long handled brush. I also have the seam guide which I absolutely love! I always struggled with my binding as well. Now, I don’t get nearly as stressed about my binding going wonky! Wonky blocks can be cute but wonky binding is not cute! I’m going to look at the flannel design boards and the 3rd hand! Those look like amazing finds! I love this video, so much really useful information! I’m happy they are Amazon finds! I’ve been trying to stay away from my local shop because I have zero self control!😂 Thanks again and I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the future!❤

    I think the binding wheel is meant to hold the binding while you are sewing it on the quilt. You use the clamp to attach it by your sewing machine and it spins to release the binding as you sew.

    I found the Amazon Felt "Cork" as they call them as well!! LOVE them and they work amazingly. Have had them for about 2 months and no problems!! The only thing I did use was my own command strip adhesive as I already had some and knew that they would not damage the wall when I removed them. I can't say enough about these and they are just as pretty as the FeltRight regular blocks!

    • @sewbeitquilts
      @sewbeitquilts  3 місяці тому

      That is smart to use your own command strips! I used the ones that came with it and I noticed they dont have tabs to pull them off. If I remove them at some point I will be sure to update on that.

    The small vacuum should be okay--they just say not to blow into the machine. I like the mat for vibration. I take my machine to a church sewing group and those plastic tables are not the sturdiest for sewing. I've even had my screw-in spool holder work itself loose and fall off with the vibration!

  • @colleenquiltstoo

    Your Bernina walking foot likely came with 3 bases. One of them is for edge stitching- it has a little vertical piece that rides on the edge of the binding. I move the needle 4 clicks to the right and it sews a perfect straight line on the edge of the binding. (I hope that makes sense - it’s hard to describe)

    • @CheeseheadQuilter
      @CheeseheadQuilter 3 місяці тому +1

      Both my Babylock and Pfaff machines came with that foot with the fin on the bottom. The foot rides on the flat of the quilt body snugged up next to the binding with your needle moved over a few clicks to sew on the binding. Have you ever tried the faux piping binding? It takes a little more time to essentially make separate narrow long bindins of 2 fabrics then sew them together the whole length. And it’s not intuitive that the “piping” little bit which shows is the wider of the 2pieces, BUT it’s a lot easier to then topstitch it on top of that narrow piping than to keep a straight line on a single binding edge as you described.

    A heavy duty yoga mat can be cut to size for use as a sewing machine mat and can be found at many discount stores. Even if it turns out to be roughly the same price, you now have enough for more than one machine. Sergers, overlockers, etc.
