He should have had a good first round, seen wether his strikes were strong enough to get the ko when *they weren't* then it should have been steady 2 and 3rd and then hell for leather 4th and 5th. That would have won him the belt. People and judges remember the last rounds. Running away the last 2 rounds sadly lost him it.
I scored the first 3 to reyer untill he ran away 2 rounds as he was hanging out his ass then taken down aswell. Even though nothing came of them they still happened.
This will be one hell of rematch if Reyes get more 5 round training.

Reaching the top of your sport and not only beating the champion but beating arguably the goat of the sport to be robbed right in your face you can tell it put him in a weird spot mentally especially considering he didn’t get the rematch
I thought Reyes clearly won 1-3 and Jon clearly won 4 and 5. Rewatching it, I still think this. The second round was closer than I originally thought but to me Reyes was just more effective. To be honest, I don't see how people take the judging this night that seriously. The dude who scored the first round for Giles against James Krause also scores the fight 49-46. 49-46 is not that justifiable for either fighter in my own opinion.
I can see Reyes making changes for the rematch, even if he can improve his cardio just slightly he could take it cleanly from Jon.

Having said that... note that how Reyes has "smashed" all of his opponents. Then Bones walks him down the final few rounds, gassing Reyes in the end. Reyes the headhunter...reduced to backpedaling the final two rounds. Reyes might have one this fight but regardless, Reyes was in the ring with a different kind of animal. A champion.
