Anne has a sweeping political overview so she is incredibly valuable as a resource. Delighted that we share a family history going back to Alabama; that was striking to learn. It a will be fascinating to read her articles in the Trump administration if Americans will be allowed exposure to them?
Thanks for your comment, Sharon. I have a lot of faith in the strength of our institutions (at least some of them). While democracy might take a step back and some of the freedoms articulated in the 1st Amendment might be tested, I believe those freedoms can withstand the abuses being attempted by the incoming administration. So yeah, we'll be able to continue to read plenty of Anne's work as well as so many other wonderful thinkers of our day.
Great podcast! Of course Anne is always fascinating to listen to, but Corey is an excellent interviewer. Nice to hear a religious person who has an open mind.
Grateful for new subscribers and commenters. So again, here are our guidelines: *Nonsense (eg. anonymous sh!t posters) will be muted. *Incivility will be blocked. *Proven falsehoods and threats will be reported.
It's time to build an open source and decentralized global platform for digital democracy, and constitute ourselves as a global collective democracy based on the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Earth Charter.
Trump has & is threatening Canadian sovereignty & US has historically no regard for human rights - see unlawful torture detainment in Gitmo, topping & meddling in democracies in South America, atrocities & occupation, fk the US. At least China doesn’t impose its model on other countries. I say Canada should join the network.
@johnnorris3409 It was re-posted as part of our "Best of 2024" series. Originally recorded and published in August of '24. Thought most of what we discussed remains quite relevant, but you're certainly free to disagree.
@@lmcreative7 So glad you were able to catch it. Getting to speak with Anne was definitely one of the highlights of my year. Been reading and appreciating her work for many years.
It's a cringe, when an american has to confess to love for "The Great Russian Literature" each and every time. Sighing and moaning about Tolstoevskies., really? Especially when Anne Applebaum started with her interest to the "borderlands", territories that are mostly unfamiliar to an average american, but the host immediately ignores this and switches to his beloved Muscovy. Why???
Anne is the best!

@johnkintree763 This is an interesting concept. Is there some other writing you could recommend that explores this further?
@@politicsandreligionYes, I put a link to other writing in the thread of this discussion.
Sounds like some globalist nonsense. We can’t even manage our own democracy

This was recorded pre-election? And you're posting it 2 months later? Not impressed. Love Anne Applebaum however.
