I’ve been called by the Lord to receive on the tongue as a little child awaits to be fed by its mother. A very humbling, submissive posture. The image of my grandson’s little mouth open with his little tongue extended trustingly awaiting the food I’d place on it was so clearly a call to me to extend my tongue and receive the food of the Lord directly. This spoke clearly of my need to be totally dependent on the Lord - a visible call to childlikeness. It allowed myself to be submissive, humbled and totally dependent on His coming to me as my father, creator, protector, giver of all, and receive what He knows I need for that day - His body and blood- soul and divinity.

Thank you for the intellectual honesty on this topic, which tends to be lacking

About 30 plus years ago, I had a terrible migraine and could not get to Mass, so my sons and I were watching Mother Angelica's Mass on TV. Prior to this, I kept getting Holy Spirit nudges to receive Jesus on the tongue instead of the hand. I kept hesitating because I didn't want to 'stand out' (foolish reason!). We were watching the Mass, and my youngest son says to me 'Mommy, when are you going to receive Jesus on the tongue?' I asked him why he asked and he said ‘because Jesus is so holy!’ WOW. Out of the mouth of babes! I began receiving Jesus on the tongue at the next Mass I went to!

And the TLM masses are booming with attendance and vocations.

I received my First Holy Communion in 1978. I was never taught to receive Our Lord in any other way but standing and in the hand. We were not taught any other way to receive. What a loss that generations of children just never learned the beauty of receiving Our Lord reverently and humbly. It changes you when you receive Him in a way that is not like how you receive any other “food”. You truly feel fed by Our Lord.

St Francis said that communion should be received on the tongue and not the hand in order to show the greatest reverence.

Do you have the quote for that? He did state that we receive "in our mouths" (which carries heavy implications) but i'm not aware of him saying anything explicit on the method of reception. It would be interesting if he did. - Admin A

@ got it from a short on a Catholic channel. Maybe they mixed it up with in the mouth. Taylor Marshall said Francis started the whole kneeling for communion.
