MSTS Megacoaster Ride [2020 Remake]

- A 2020 replica/remake of one of my favorite childhood Microsoft Train Simulator videos made by LT19C1SS featuring a modified Acela consist running on the megacoaster route, which has now since been deleted off from UA-cam.
(Viewers who grew up watching MSTS crash compilation videos will know which video it was~)
Till this day, LT19C1SS's Megacoaster video is still one of my favorite montages, with it's choice of music, the scene cuts and as well as the warm, old, but familiar megacoaster route that I used to enjoy coasting around back then.
Fortunately, while cleaning my room one day, I found a VCD copy of it that I made back in around 2007 (If I recall correctly) when I was a kid who had just discovered the power of creating their own physical media, and decided to re-watch everything on that disc for nostalgia sake, and came across this video video as part of it's playlist. Unfortunately, because this video was written to and compressed to fit on a VCD Disc, the footage is barely watchable by today's standards.
So out of my free time during the lock-down, I decided to re-create the entire video, scene by scene with what little pixel remains from that VCD Extract, and also bringing it up to modern standards of 1080p 60FPS, corrected the end credits details, and as well as other quality of life changes such as timing the scenes so that the clips matches as much as possible to the apex of the music.
While not exactly a 1:1 as LT19C1SS used a custom consist for their video, and also the train spotter cam positions being RNG based, I'm actually pretty satisfied with what I could replicate out of an old super-compressed, low res footage.

It is a unique route in it's own sense for sure~
Kinda sad that this idea didn't really take off with the community, and even till 2021, this route still remains as the only available full-fledged roller-coaster route.
Oh my goodness I remember watching that video way back in the day. It introduced me to that great song too! Loved messing around on the Megacoaster route back in the day.

I think around the loops between 0:28 and 1:10 when I saw this as a kid I used to go "sling" when I saw it. It's where the camera was far away from the train.

I remember watching this video back in 2008 during my freshman year in high school and the resolution was only 480p and 4:3 ratio. I'm so glad I get to see a remake of it in 1080p60 and 16:9 ratio! And the song is also awesome! Thank you for bringing back a great video! I'm wondering how long it took you to get every scene correct compared with the original
For most of the scenes, I take 2-3 takes of the shots, then compare them and choose the ones that looked the best after recording each segments.
The scenes that took me the most amount of re-takes (I think like, 5 or 7 times?) is the shot at 1:31, 1:32 and 1:35 (they're actually 3 separate clips edited together to make it look seamless). But by far, I would say 1:35 took the most amount of retakes, simply because I had to balance the speed of the Acela while it was going down the mega slope, so as to ensure that the scene from 1:40 on-wards wouldn't go by in a flash and that I would have time to switch to the external camera to capture 1:48.
More or less, I would say this project took me about 3 days to complete~
I see what you mean. In the original video when the train goes up the ramp the camera was shaking under it so I understand that at 1:32 you had to do multiple takes to get the one closest to the original. Above all you did awesome 👍👍

Just keep in mind that while the clear GUI add on I linked in the description contains mostly what you see, the text colour was customized by myself, so it'll be slightly different from what you get.

As for how to modify the track monitor text color, follow these instructions:
1. Go to your MSTS installation directory
2. Head on over to MSTS\GUI\DRIVERAIDS\
4. Make a backup copy of monitor.dat (You can make a copy of the same file, and rename it to monitor.dat.bak for convinence)
3. Open monitor.dat with notepad (I recommend using Visual Studio Code as it provides line numbers)
4. You'll see 3 regions on line 24, 46 and 68. These 3 sections are the "settings" for telling MSTS how to style the track monitor. The parameter you'll want to focus on is TrGUI_Region_Font ( X XXX XXX XXX )
5. To customize the font colour for your Track Monitor, simply adjust the last 3 numbers to your liking. These are denoted as RGB with range from 0 to 255.
So using the example in my video,
if I want my speed limit text to be magenta, I just need to make sure my line 31 and 41 looks like so: TrGUI_Region_Font ( 9 255 0 255 )
If I want my current speed text to be cyan, I just need to make sure my line 53 and 63 to look like: TrGUI_Region_Font ( 9 0 255 255 )
And lastly, for my projected speed to be yellow, I just need to make sure my line 75 and 85 to look like TrGUI_Region_Font ( 9 255 255 153 )
If you find that the colours are too dark or too bright, you can play around with the values to see which suits your taste the most.
