Remember Australia is the origin of WiFi and many other advanced ideas. We may have the likes of characters depicted in Crocodile Dundee but we also have a few advanced nerds.
Just to clarify for those who aren't aware... A wireless local access network (WLAN) was invented and patented by scientists at the CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, building on earlier work to interpret radio signals.
@@cbisme6414 And get from the USA Companies alone around 20 to 30 million a year in Patent Revenue from Licensing, They tried to get around it but they lost the Patent Dispute, Similar Issue happened with Bluetooth

and the crucial black box recorders that are now on all commercial and private airplanes were also invented by Australians. These black box recorders play a very important role in investigating and solving plane accidents and crashes, which in turn they help in improving airplane safety.
They said the AFP and FBI created a “Telco”. “Telco” is short for “telecommunications company”. The AFP and FBI work hand in hand. Keep up the great work Ryan. Craig - Australia 😊
What he said 👍
was going to comment myself buy you got there first lmao
ahhhh thanks Craig!
I believe he said Australians initiated the telco scam creation over beers!
Don't forget, over a beer lol
What I love about it is not only did they trick them all into using the app so the could access information used to catch them, but they charged a subscription fee so the crims are paying to get done 😂
That's pretty funny, but I suppose it also makes it more realistic.
Got to get the money back for the service that's been provided. lol
That might’ve been enough money to pay for all the cops and their overtime throughout the sting, LOL.
@@Ausmerica The phones themselves weren't cheap, and then cost $2,000 for a 6 month contract
@@Kirra-Oz $2,000 for a 6 month contract per phone and they signed up 12,000.

What a nightmare it was having Scott Morrision as Prime Minister. The absolute worst we ever had.
Now we have Albo as our current nightmare.
Australia has really good cyber security personnel that are constantly being head hunted by the U.S. This operation was a good example of the quality of legal “hackers” that Australia produces.
We need top cyber security people because China has been known to intercept government communications and disrupt our national intelligence systems
Yes, there's one in my family, he prefers to stay Australian!
@@jenniferharrison8915 Same here but travels regularly to the U.S. to participate in joint projects.
An Aussie police operation took down some hackers mainframe and took it over to track them and everyone else. We don't need that app. But you can't fix stupid I guess.
i love how a current affair is classed as a small thing on youtube
It is a running Joke from Ryan. Even if it has 10m subscribers, he says the same thing...
even most Aussies that see it on TV dont take it completely seriously
I think a really funny part of this is there are a bunch of US laws that make intercepting communications of US citizens difficult, warrants n such. But it's A-OK if the Aussies do it to Americans and then tell them the hot gossip.
five eyes - watching all of us
No- this would have been carried out with US authorities if it impinges on US areas. We're not savages!!😅
The app only spied on the deep web...if you are on the deep web...you have already swum out and among the sharks...you don't get any protection for that....even in the US!
AFP stands for Australian Federal Police, it is our federal law enforcement agency, they investigate crimes on the federal level and help protect our national security. They are basically the Aussie equivalent of your American FBI. Here in Australia we also have ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) which is our national security agency that's mainly responsible for protecting our national security from terrorism espionage etc & collecting intelligence. But ASIO do not have the power to enforce laws or arrest people so they work very closely with the AFP who do enforce the laws. Sometimes AFP and ASIO collectively are like the FBI.
Except more badass
Just another terrorist organisation.
they also have more power than state police they don't need warrants if the AFP are after you your fuked
They are one step more than the FBI as they are also by invitation inserted into other countries conflict zones to keep the peace where the local police are unable to do so. But not not in a war zone peace keeping that requires our military. They also operate with ASIO our domestic security intelligence, ASIS our international intelligence service and our signals directorate
I’m not reading that sh*t
One of the first thing I was taught in my Psych and Health Promotion uni degree was that "Privacy is and illusion..."
yup absolutely, you gotta keep it simple, always assume they're onto you and act accordingly. humans are funny creatures and very single minded when it comes to routines and habits, to the point of blindness in some cases when confronted with change. the police were no different, i noticed when they raided the house, early days, they come ripping into the driveway and jump out attacking their target, moving forward all high on adrenaline, and never searching the area behind their car. no need, they conquered that already. i've seen dealers talk on the phone like they're chatting about sports without a care in the world. tried telling one but oh no, they wouldnt bother with meee, its not T VEEE, 280 recorded calls they got em for. off topic a bit but the psych reference reminded me of some interesting aspects of the trade. not meth, horrible drug.
Damn. I was enjoying forgetting that ScoMo existed.
he is where he belongs now ... over in the USA with Trumps friends
I would prefer scomo compared to albo who is the worst fucking prime minister Australia has ever had
@@cherylrepici3396 You can't be serious? ScoMo literally is the worst we ever had. Number 2 is Abbott. Turnbull is probably number 3 since he did nothing but polish his PM plaque.

A current Affair is Australia’s news programme seen nightly for approx. 30 years.
It’s a running joke Ryan has to call big companies on UA-cam small channels. He’ll go even further when he sees a channel with millions of subscribers _“be sure to support this small channel”_
AFP is like your FBI
Aussie have and can come up with incredible inventions. It takes a different mindset and perspective on things.
Telco is short for telecommunications company.
Yep sometimes ryans a bit thick🤣🤣
@@alwynemcintyre2184 A bit? that's putting it lightly.
Just what I was checking. :)
Awww, give him a break. He probably just misheard it and the closest he could get in his vocabulary was “taco”. Presumably they don’t use the term “telco” in the USofA. Or at least in Indiana.
There is also an incredible operation that caught the killer of a 13yr old boy…Daniel Morcombe, he was just waiting at a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast in Qld.
The Australian Federal Police is a police force that deals with federal, as opposed to state, issues. They also provide, under contract, the Australian Capital Territory police force. "Telco" - telecommunications company.
Telco company, Ryan. Short for Telecommunications.
This is over 2 years old as that tv host and the Prime Minister have since retired from those positions.
See if you can find any videos of the FBI bust cos it would have all gone down at pretty much th he same time around the world.
I can remember thinking how dumb these guys were to be be caught out like this and how brilliantly the police did around the world to set this all up! It took them several years to get enough information to do all the raids. They literally did all the Aussie raids at the same time and caught a heap of criminals!
"Prime Minister has since retired" - or, "thrown out like yesterdays rubbish."

"A Current Affair" is not a " Small and up-and-coming UA-cam channel", rather it is a UA-cam channel from one of Australia's major TV networks, the 7 network.
9 network actually, but yeah - it’s big
Lol, I thought he was sarcastic 😂😅
He was being sarcastic- he says that every time he does a big media reaction 😂

Fun fact, a current affair is a news program. Been around for ages.
That's overstating it a bit. I may have started out that way, but they rarely cover anything more newsworthy than a shonky tradie these days.
@@neilt6480 pretty typical these days 😂
AFP stands for Australian Federal Police. A telco company, not taco! 😄 Ryan you hit the nail on the head when you were talking about the reason people used drugs, that it makes them feel good.
And it relieves the depression of a shitty life for a short while. I have seen how otherwise intelligent people have a "taste" and find it so enjoyable that they keep going back despite knowing that addiction is inevitable.
A Current Affair is a news show which has been going on for several DECADES. It's not a small youtube channel
If I was the government I wouldn’t tell anyone. Keep the app open and the criminals wondering how they got caught
Police have never been known for having achieved high educational honors or even the smarts to complete an apprenticeship. They really employ tattooed low achievers.
Except when you have to go to court.
It would’ve been used as evidence, so the hat would’ve been out of the bag pertaining to the app anyway.
Never underestimate the power of the taco Ryan :) .. he was actually saying Telco, as in telecommunications company.
Ryan I wish you would wait till the end b4 you put your 2 cents worth in. This is interesting I didn't even know about it till now

Just about to watch this video, and I am sure I will not be the first to say it….A Current Affair is a major Australian TV news show that has been around since the 1980’s……I saw it 5 nights a week as a child…….but don’t tell my mum…..I wasn’t supposed to be watching it! Lol
One thing being under the radar of the local Police here, but once your under the radar of in my state of New South Walse, is the Raptor squad, or/and with the AFP's radar you can never hide they watch your every move. When they do their raids, they do multiple raids all at once.
An area not far from me got raided when this went down 4 people are at one His Majesties Special Resorts, along with many others they raided.
A friend lives on 10 acres and was woken up by her dog barking. She looked outside and saw a line of swat police moving quietly down the neighbour's paddock. She went out the front. Road blocked, heavy police trucks and more police. Turns out her neighbours were manufacturing meth and their phones had been tapped for wuite a while. Explained the trucks coming and going at 3 in the morning, but apparently neighbours reserved, but polite.
Don't need AI, don't even need to read the messages. You can derive a lot just from tracking who is talking to whom, and when.
Happy Arvo Ryan! 🙋👍 There are plenty of interesting jobs available in our armed forces and policing right now! An international sting facilitated by a fugitive, use a thief to catch a thief, clever! It's so good to know that people were saved in all ways! You never know, what 'they' may know! 😉 We are so rescourceful! You may be able to access videos of our military SASR, or Commando, training! 🤔
AFP = Australian Federal Police or basically the Australian version of the FBI in the US. We also have a Special Forces unit in our Army called the Special Air Service Regiment = SASR or more commonly the SAS. The general Police force is a State based system, so each State has their own forces.
And the Federal Government has other agencies that few people know about. They don't need a warrant to search and they are able to walk into any business and record/copy any data.
I find never knowing that someone is trying to kill me much scarier then potential privacy suits
You can fight privacy in court you can't fight when your cold and dead
He said "Telco" which is short for Telecommunications Company.
"Small and upcoming... " 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is the Nine Network's Feature News show (for the bigger stories/more in depth look at a subject), with Nine being one of our 3 main commercial broadcasters
Re: "the most weaponized swat team", well in a round about way, they weaponized smart phones, but yeah I guess you could call it "the most stealthy surveillance operation" instead.
Well, it was Los Pollos Hermanos where things went down in Breaking Bad - why not a taco restaurant? 😄
Your observation about privacy is on point. It's hard to understand how the police could infiltrate to that extent , but they would need to do everything on a legal basis, otherwise the courts wouldn't uphold any convictions.
When the subjects had to download an (apparently) illegal app using the dark web, I reckon all privacy gloves are off
@@jacquimott386 Unfortunately for us law abiding citizens, what you reckon (and I agree with) and what a court of law will accept are often two different things.

If you actually look at what Op. Ironside did - it was targeted, simple and hugely effective. Happened a few years ago BTW yet was instrumental in uncovering/overtly capturing world wide crime for evidedentiary purposes. There are better vids out there that explain the phone App and how the phones were distributed for Op. Ironside.
