      If you go back and watch that bit again, he was still amazed that with all the smart accomplishments in ancient Chinese history, including buildings and infrastructure, how could they not realise that they were about to shoot themselves in the foot by revoking the coal purchase agreement. He didn’t seem to be watching the screen as it changed to a view of the Sydney Opera House. He was quite right in what he was still saying about the political short-sightedness.

    It was a little more complicated than that with Australia starting to slam the breaks on Chinese investment in Australia among other things.
    Australian coal is higher quality and has less impurities so power companies and industries installed machinery that could take best advantage of this Chinese coal is lower quality and has more impurities and the new machinery just wouldn't run on it.
    This is the global economy at work. back in the 40's a car company in America (remember when you had an auto industry) made a car most of it was made in the US from the steel in the body to the tiers on the wheel (true the rubber was imported) but today the same company import most of the part form the steel to the tiers and the companies that make those parts would get the stuff to make from all over.
    Russia has run into that problem their tank repair facility has shut down because the parts it needs are imported and the world is going to start to feel the pinch because Ukraine exports a LOT grain and there are now shortages.
    Governments have to realise that we are all connected so stop trying to measure your dicks and learn to work together.

      @@janeenharris3074 There is alot more than Liberal & Labor, China issued a list of demands to Australia that had to be met in order to keep on Chinas "Good Side". Most notably was allow Huawei to buils our 5G Network (Australia lead the world in banning Huawei as there were concerns over "backdoor features that may have allowed China to gather digital data and interupt internet supply if it wanted too.) Fun fact: China financed the Papua New Guinea Governments IT upgrade building supposedly secure data communications between Gov departments, Health, Law & Order etc. nationwide. It was proven that it was severley corrupted and had to be replaced fully. This was most likely a backdoor attempt to gather info on Australia, as PNG is highly reliant on Aussie Govt. support through foreign aid. China also demanded that Australia repeal foreign interference laws in Australian politics as it was proven that they had "bought" politicians influence. So far the Labor Government is doing a far better than antincipated job in maintaining our sovereign interest and fighting the CCP incursion attempts in the Sth Pacific.

    • @MELODYMUNRO
      @MELODYMUNRO 2 роки тому +10

      That's because we were the loudest in insisting that China's role in the origins of covid needed to be investigated. China is also trying to enlarge its power base and field of influence in the south pacific and Australia is a threat to this.

    • @mehere8038
      @mehere8038 Рік тому

      At the point where we called for an investigation, the rest of the world had out of control covid & really didn't have much focus at all on China. Australia had covid eliminated & was ready to go in for a ful blown investigation call & that freaked them out & even just the fact that Australia had covid controlled was seen as a threat to their propaganda of them being superior in covid management. Also, read between the lines as to what happened in Wuhan, countries like the US clearly payed the ransom demands to get all it's citizens out, Australia paid only a very small amount & then left our citizens there rather than paying the rest, so that was conserning them as well. Look at what supplies of things like n95's the US had at the start of it, a LOT of their supplies went missing! The day before our plane landed in Wuhan, a plane full of PPE & medical equipment left Perth for China. Same in every country, those that got their citizens out had massive amounts of PPE, ventilators etc leaving their countries in secret flights. If you look this stuff I'm saying up, I've given enough info here that it will show on a search engine to confirm it's real, not a nutcase conspiracy. Citizens in Wuhan were only allowed to board planes to their home country once ransoms in the form of PPE etc, were paid for them

    The Australia China trade war has been going on since the mid 2010's and so far Australia seems to be winning even though they are a smaller economy. Every time China imposes a new sanction on Australia they have seemed to be able to find a new trading partner for that resource. whilst China has had to pay exceptionally more to replace that resource. Australia since 2010 has gone from 10 most powerful economy in the world to now having a seat in the G8 for most powerful economies.
    the advantage Australia has over most countries is that we are one of the largest natural resource countries and our mining sector dominates the world.

    Ryan, you asked if there is different coal, the answer is yes. In Australia we have both Thermal Coal, for power production and metallurgical coal used to make steel. In the case of Thermal coal there are different grades of coal. This is important because to maximise the productivity of a power station you need the right blend, so like coffee beans the coal needs to be blended to the right specification. This is done at the point of export and is the main reason for delays to shipping movements

      thats not true 100% there are 4 types of coal the one that is used for making steel and shit is called coking coal you dont use it to make power cause its combustion properties are different (think petrol vs diesel you dont mix them) they need the coking coal to melt metal gold and copper so they can make iphones tvs etc which is what their entire economy is based on they have no problems making power they only import coking coal not thermal

That's when I fully realized how constrained citizens there were in getting essentials like food. The govt would "release" X amount of (pork, in this example) to the people, and it was whoever got in first got some. Otherwise...it was just like Russia. Aussie here. Personally I don't think we should be exporting fossil fuels whatsoever. Our coal should be used in manufacturing, and we should have a massive renewable industry - especially making solar panels, given we have literally every resource needed for them right here. Australia gets screwed in so many of our trade deals because companies can manipulate the system to pay almost no Australian taxes.
    Frankly, I want Australia to have little to no reliance on the rest of the world for our economic stability or resource production.

      The 2000 Olympics were the greenest ever at the time, Sydney Uni was the leading solar research centre. A Chinese student stole the tech and took it back to China which went on to become a solar panel superpower. When the head professor was interviewed years later and asked about this he said that it was good for the world, Australia missed and massive opportunity but the professor said that because of China making the panels cheaper more people can afford solar. Yes you do need a specific type of coal from us Aussies to use in manufacturing. Australian coal has a high thermal capacity. You need less of it and it burns longer more efficient to use. The Chinese use it to manufacture absolutely everything. So it wasn’t just our coal it was meat, red wine , seafood and grains also .But they are using Hong Kong as a back door to let this stuff in. The Chinese like Australian products because they feel they are organic and healthy. At one stage we had to increase our production of baby formula because it was being bought by Chinese living here and they were sending it at a huge profit . If they had got off their high horse they would have found Australia would have just increased their exports to China- but nope ( now they seem to be relaxing restrictions because they’ve been bitten on the arse.

    Australian economy was HEAVILY reliant on exports to China - especially coal. They didn't just stop the coal. They wanted to hurt Australia and they knew just where to squeeze. This is a big lesson - for every country; not to ignore Grandma's advice: about "not putting all your eggs in one basket". One trip and... Clearly they didn't think about the flow-on longer term effects - to themselves. I'm not sure WHAT they thought the end point might be. Beginning to think - they didn't think...
    For eg; overnight they shut down the Crayfish Industry here in Tasmania. Thousands of tons of Live Export Crays - held up & expired denied entry. ( OK they were gonna die anyway! but-- you know what I mean ). Then; the Wine Industry; a huge market closed just like that. Wool - Beef - the list goes on. Many Australian industries, from large to niche specialities, had China as their Primary Customer.
    And it's not just about power production and manufacturing capacity, it's also about meat. The Beef market was substantial - but China has a huge preference for Pork and now, with culling tens of millions pigs due to swine fever, pork is also in very short supply.
    And Why?
    Because the WORLD wanted a deeper investigation into how COVID 19 mutated out of the animal world and jumped to humans - in China. China then leapt up all offended and screeched;"How dare you say it came from here! We say an American brought it over here - so they could blame us!" {Yeah Right... }
    Everyone Knew it came out of that Wet - live animal meat- Market and got away from them before they realised how serious it was. What infectious disease specialists wanted to do was find out just HOW it mutated and thereby HOW to prevent any more Novel Viruses (Viruses previously not in the human population - and therefore no resistance ) from doing the same.
    For eg; Very early on Virologists and other infectious diseases specialists told us that the specific bat population it (allegedly} originated in [ before it jumped to a couple of other species - mutating happily all the way - until it gained the capacity to jump to ours,] has a 'viral reservoir 'of over 2,000 different Covid viruses. Now THERE's a reassuring thought isn't it! Wouldn't it benefit the world - China included - if the top infectious disease specialists from all over the globe were given access to ALL the data and assisted in their studies with Chinese scientists to get ahead of all this? But no. China kept screeching in it's paranoid defensive way, eventually giving the WHO representatives a useless minimalist meet and greet, and then shooed them out of the country - saying; "See! We've cooperated'!
    REALLY Helpful. Where to from here?
    A lot of countries now seeking other permanent alternative markets, including starting to develop / redevelop manufacturing capacities - but the run up to all this is very lengthy.
    Lot more fall out to come from these extraordinarily stupid decisions.

      While Covid19 *might* have come out of China, there is plenty to suggest it could have come from the US, and the trump administration was DEFINITELY covering up just as much as China was.
      The strain that first hit Europe was different from the one in China, and the case zero in many if not all European countries had no connection to China, but several had contact with the US (either recently returned from the US or had visitors from there) The US seems to have had both strains from the start, suggesting it had already been in the population long enough to mutate before it was being reported as covid.
      Trump was plainly lying when he said the US only had 15 cases. At that time, Australian immigration officials had detected about that many cases arriving in Aus from the US. There were only one or two arrived from China with it. Quite clearly there were already thousands of undetected/unreported cases in the US.
      I wish China had allowed full scientific research at the start as that would now be part of the world data and helpful in mapping the history and origins.

      Steel making uses coal primarily to produce CO gas to chemically strip impurities from the ore, rather than to generate heat. The high impurities in thermal coal can be compensated for by more coal. Impurities in coking coal need to be chemically scrubbed from the stream or the steel will be shit.

    I worked as a Fitter for a ship Engineering company in the Coal Port of Gladstone for 8 years plus in the Mine industry. The First thing everyone should know is NONE of those ships is an Australian ship, In Fact, Australia virtually has No ships registered as owned by Australia that have a little Aussie Flag on it. Australia has about 2 or 3 ships and they work in Australia as Bauxite Carriers that makes Aluminium in Gladstone. Those 60 ships are ALL foreign-owned and the majority of workers ( about 22 to 25 people to a crew ) are Asian workers and a few ships are European crewed but not many, they are crewed by people from all over china and Asia PLUS BHP owns the Mines and Coal which is mostly British owned so Brits are cashed up but Australians do get paid huge wages in heavy Industry( My Wages were about $14.000 a month ) plus the Aussie government taxes BHP plus all the royalties made so we fair pretty well out of it. The Australian government last year went into a mad Panic which they are still Panicking about realizing that Australia doesn't own any ships which is a major problem as they are mainly CHINESE Built and Korean Built these days the Koreans are making Super Carriers and Tankers, But how stupid is our government for Just assuming all the ships they see are Australian owned 😵‍💫😵‍💫This is what happens when a Pig Farmer decides to become a Politician. There are 2 separate grades of coal - coking coal and thermal coal. Coking coal burns to produce higher temperatures that are needed for producing things like steel. Thermal coal burns cooler and just has to convert water to steam to drive turbines, so it is more abundant. Australia has both but a lot of other places only have thermal coal. Its a similar thing with iron ore - iron is super abundant in the earth's crust but only a few places like Australia and Brazil have very high grades with few impurities that are easy to extract and get to port, so we've just about got that whole market tied up. The Brazilians are further away from China, so to compete they built these massive ships that have caused a lot of problems when they get stuck in the middle of a major port and close things down for a few months. Australia's also the biggest exporter of lithium and its around number 1 and 2 for lots of other mined materials like aluminium and gold.

    G'day mate, to make steel, you need 4 basic ingredients. Iron Ore (rust), Coke (made from coking coal), Water, and Thermal Coal to cook it up. There are a few small quantity extra ingredients, but these four main ones are more than 99% of the process. Iron ore is basically rust. You add pure carbon (coke) and when you heat these (with thermal coal), the carbon attaches to the oxide in the iron ore to create CO2 and what is left is almost pure steel. You also need one ton of water to make one ton of steel.

These autocrats want to push other countries around and don't realize that their own actions inevitably lead to military build up to counter their aggression.
