  • Why were pygmies revered in Ancient Kemet? Today, the groups commonly referred to as Pygmies prefer to be called by their own names, such as Twa, Baka, Aka, Ake, Bongo, Mbuti, and Benga. The term "Pygmy," which means "as tall as a cubit," was originally used by ancient Greek authors like Homer to describe these peoples based on their short stature.

    Neat fact:
    The Pygmy Creator god is a God of hunting and is said to have created human with clay, and is often called a potter as a result. His name is Khonvoum.
    This should of course remind you of the Egyptian god Khunmn who it is said have created mankind on the potter's wheel. He too is a horned God.
    I often wonder if this was a shared name/aspect of the hidden god that is traced back before African split into various groups or if Khnovm was imported into Egypt by the Pygmies.

    4:19 A small correction: The ancient Egyptians used both Nemou and Deneg to refer to the Twa (actually the pygmies in general) people. Nemou is the general word for dwarf, while the word Deneg was only used for the people that held important religious/ceremonial roles and were associated to the God Bes.

    • @nirbija
      @nirbija 19 днів тому +4

      But the Twa people ARE NOT "dwarf".
      I find it questionable that those quite knowledgeable leaders of Kemet would not know the difference and have different words to describe those who are naturally shorter humans (Twa) and those who were of 'normal' stature, but were of 'defective' birth.

    • @Weda01
      @Weda01 19 днів тому +2

      @@nirbija I don't know how old both words exactly are to be honest, but I do know that by the time of the new kingdom the pygmies and dwarfs in general (so not only the Twa) were not respected anymore but ridiculed. The exact meaning of the terms Deneg and Nemou are also pretty questionable sometimes (especially Nemou), since you can find claims about it being used by ancient Egyptians but I was unable to find concrete sources that can confirm it.
      Edit: Having looked at the meaning of the term Nemw (Nemou) again, it is described that it supposedly began to emerge during the middle kingdom and means "malformed one", while Deneg seems to be an older word from the old kingdom refering to people with dwarfism (so a bit more respectful). If anyone has additional info on the subject, feel free to correct me on this.

      there is the dwarf who is a spiritual being and generally a dangerous entity and the twa or batwa or the equitorial forests first nation who speak bantu. Known to have telepathic communication and to have an extensive inventory of herbal medicine these people are probably not what kemet is reffering to as dwarfs.

    • @nirbija
      @nirbija 18 днів тому

      @@jtg408
      Please!
      Stop with the fearmongering: "generally a dangerous entity"?
      The Twa people ARE just regular humans, but of a smaller stature.
      As fellow humans, the Twa possess no special powers that are not available to ALL those of human form.
      Let's not allow ignorance and 'fear of the unknown' to cause us to spread harmful gossip about the people, just because they are of smaller stature.
      If Twa have "extensive knowledge of herbs" it is because THEY STUDY!
      Other humans CAN ALSO study the herbs!
      And if they have so-called "telepathic communication" (whatever that is) it would be something that they alone can have; because the only difference between smaller humans and bigger humans physical SIZE!

    Bes was also refered to as "the fire making God" which is KuBasa or Kubesa in Basotho toungue. The one who makes fire is called MoBesi or Mubesi so the egyptian could have called bes Besi or besa mubesai. Bes is also refered to as the Lord of Punt(god land). This suggest that Punt should be near central Africa or around the great lakes region. The elements of punt could be near somalia or eritriea as most egyptologist will agree but more evidence pinpoints down farther south of somalia towards the great lakes region where the Twa and other Bantu resides.

      There isn’t any verified authentic pronunciation. The language of course underwent changes over centuries & millennia like any other language! The Coptic pronunciation is “Kemai”, New Kingdom probably Kemé, Middle Kingdom probably “Kemat” or “Kamt”, Old Kingdom probably “Khumat” - all these attempts of reconstructing original pronunciations are highly speculative & debatable. Therefore “Kemet” as a phonetic compromise applied to all periods is still a valid & reasonable compromise- internationally so
