    Thank you so much for your videos, I just finished installing a new AC resistor on my 2003 Grand Prix which is the same set up as this car in video. It was a challenge and true to your words when having to torque my body into position to get the old resistor out, But success was made and now I have a full range of blower settings. Thank you so much.

    Those 2 rear 7/32's sucked because it depends on how tight that rubberized backing is against the floorboard. Remember, DO NOT TAKE OUT THE BACK TWO 7/32's because it has the horseshoe slots on the new resistor. I didn't even bother tightening down the rear two.
    It basically took me about 30 mins to do this job...one thing I recommend is putting down something soft for your back and knees since you will be contorted in a funky angle.
    Watching this video really helped me out...thanks a bunch !!

    Thanks a million for this video tutorial. I was able to make this repair in total about 2 1/2 hours of labor, and 1 hour running around purchasing the tools and parts. I spent a total $55-$56 in all. Thanks again A1 Auto.

    I struggled replacing the unit in my daughter's '03 Impala LS for nearly two hours! After finding and watching your video I was done in about 20 minutes. Although I did not buy the new resistor from you, I appreciate your posting of this video. Your instructions were simple and concise and very helpful. If I need parts in the future I will use you for sure! Thanks for a great video!!

    Watched video, ordered part from 1a Auto, watched video while doing the work. Took 45 mins or so. Only comment was that my fan had hex screws, not torx heads, and they were all 7/32", not 5mm. Otherwise video was spot-on! Saved me a hundred bucks I'm sure. Thanks guys!

    It may be the resistor. You also may want to check to see if any of the wires are loose and causing the intermittent issue.

    Absolutely great video. I think I would've been able to manage this replacement myself but after watching your video, I know I saved myself tons of time and frustration. My brother owns an auto shop so I got a good price on the resistor at my local parts store. My old one only worked on setting 3 and 5. The new one works on 1, 2, 3, and 5. Still no 4! lol. I can live without 4 rather than doing this replacement over again. Thanks again!

    The video certainly helped me out! Thanks so much! One suggestion - what if you rated the jobs for “suck factor”? On a scale of 1 - 10 for this job, this project had a suck factor of 20! Obviously the people that design this stuff never have to work on it. At any rate, I did save myself some $$$ and learned something new in the process. Thanks again!

    @osugunner Thank you for checking out our auto repair videos. The blower motor fan in your car should turn off once the vehicle has turned off. The resistor to my knowledge shouldn't interfere with that.

    Thanks for the video!
    The location of the blower/resistor and removal process is the same for a 2001 Buick Century. However, if you have automatic climate control, the Fan Resistor does not have a circuit board so it does not look the same. BIG difference in price too!

    @facio559 It almost sounds like there's to much power going to it, or something possible shorting them out. I would check for a frayed wire, or possibly the fuse going to it. Also check to make sure the proper size fuse is in the fuse box. Hope this helps you out.

    Just did mine right now and finished in about an hour. The bolts on mine (2000 Impala 3.8) all turned out to be 7/32... from the bracket to the fan and the resistor. all the same bolts, which made it kind of easier for me. Overall wasn't too hard and saved about $80 bucks.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    @TechTehTech It sounds as though you may have a loose connection to the blower motor. You may want to check the connection to the blower motor to make sure it's secure, and not loose.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    @evaman1000 It should be. if the car has AC you may also want to make sure that the drain house under the car is clear. If this get's blocked, water will back up into the system and usually drip on the passenger side. You can blow a little air into the drain hose under the car with an air can if this has happened.That usually will enable the water to drain out once again. Hope this helps.

    @ytnpablo08 It could be either one of those components, you also may want to check the switch itself that turns it on. Electricity is finding it's way to the blower motor while the switch is in the off position, that could be the culprit.Hope this helps.

    You may have a cross connection or a pinched wire some where that could be causing this. When the car is off you could try to pull the fuses one by one to see which circuit has a draw on it.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 років тому

    @onelovelyladie2 if it is only working on the highest speed, it usually means the blower motor resistor has gone bad and needs to be replaced

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    You may want to have the freon level checked to see if it's where it should be. You could try to top it off to see if that helps.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    If the motor goes on and off intermittently it could be from either the wire or the resistor. The issue with the wire theory is if it is grounded out, it would most likely pop a fuse so it most likely will be a physical part going bad.

    I changed the resistor on my 04 monte carlo and the blower works but goes in and out. I have to hit up underneath on the cover panel to get it to start up again. Bad blower motor? It seems to work mostly on high as well but sometimes on lower settings. Motor squeaks at times too. Just wanted your .02 before I take it out. Keep up the great videos. Watch them frequently.

    @skyzophrenyk It's more than likely your blower motor resistor, that's causing you to slowly lose fan speeds.

  • @1AAuto

    Check the vacuum lines to see if there's a loose connection or leak which could be causing this.

    I am fairly tall, I did most of it upside down, slid if from the drivers side then down into passenger's feet area. The blower motor on mine has a different connector, could not figure out so I cut the wires going to replace the resistor pack anyway. The one screw in back of the 7 way connector is smaller diameter with a plastic sleeve that snaps into the cutout for the screw, did not need to loosen, had to loosen the other back screw and remove the front. also be careful of the vacuum lines.

    Hello I'm sorry to ask maybe u already answer this question but how do u know if the blower motor or the resistor its bad because on my 05 impala none of the speeds work and whenever I turn the heat/ac on a burning smell starts coming out of the vents of my car so I dont know which of this 2 parts is bad or is it something else thanks in advance
    You may want to check the wire harness coming off of the blower motor and also the blower motor resistor to see if they are melted or damaged. Sometimes if the blower motor resistor fails, it can heat up and melt the plug end. We carry new blower motors and also new blower motor resistors on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393. Hope this helps you out.

    2005 Impala; Blower doesn't turn at any speed setting. 25A fuse on the passenger side panel, and the 20A fuse on driver side panel are both unblown. What would be the next suspect? Would it be (the relay on) the resistor module (seen in Haynes manual?). Nice video...thanks. I think we can replace the module if it's the likely culprit.

    I have a 2005 base Impala. I can feel the heat and the cold air gently coming out of the vents while I'm driving but not while I am stopped. The knob to change the speed of the air coming out doesn't work but I can the air that does come out from hot to cold. I've checked fuses and all are good. What might the problem be?

    Usually when the blower motor resistor starts to go you'll start to lose some of the speed settings, and only a few or one may work. We carry new ones our our website with free shipping. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    I own a chevy monte carlo ss. My AC only works on speed 5. Does that mean that just the motor resistor has to be changed? Are do I need to change the Motor as well? Thanks in advance.

    Thank you and 1 question. On my 2003 Impala the Fan is working only on the highest speed. So if that's the case my best bet is to replace the Resistor ? No need to replace the entire fan / motor.?
    Thanks for the help. You guys are A1 + in my book

      Usually when the blower motor resistor goes bad, you'll loose the lower settings and the heat may only work on the highest one. We carry new blower motor resistors on our website 1aauto.com

    You may want to check the power going to the blower motor with an Ohm meter or a test light to see if there's power getting to it. If there's, it could be a bad blower motor. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    If all of the speeds aren't working it might be a bad blower motor resistor going bad.

    If the blower motor is ok then you do not need to replace it.
