So much about this bothers me. Starting with the first 7 letters of this chemical's name. Good presentation though. Thank u
It is from the Latin and it means "light bearing". Luciferin is the base protein. The last three letters (-ase) have meaning as well - an enzyme. I was able to synthesize this in my organic chemistry class and it is quite fascinating. It also did not cause anyone any harm. Turn the lights down and you can see the reaction. *Very* useful tool in biology. No need for fear or superstition - it is simply a name that describes what it does. Luciferin is in fireflies - lol and many other things. Sometimes you can see glowing waves of dinoflagellates in tocean waves at night.
@@shawnmulberry774 thank u for that! Yes, I was aware of that. I have a degree in a health related field and we touched upon it when i took chem. As beautiful as it is (i believe its also in bioluminescent algae), as a Christian, the name just rubs me the wrong way. Just like the telescope they have in the Vatican. 😉
@@mamacocolilo105 If im not mistaken, that particular name does not show up until the King James version. Or at least not in any of the "original" versions of Gospel which would have been circulating before 300AD. Certainly isnt in the original Isaiah. It is really more of a nickname but I do understand your sentiment. Also, the Large Binocular Telescope Near-infrared Spectroscopic Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research requires a lot of creative choices to get the acronymn LUCIFER. Why isn't it LBTNISUCIFUER? Real astronomers just call it the LBT. This reminds me of NON-scientists calling the Higgs Boson "the God particle". It may be important but come on...
@@shawnmulberry774 Agreed. I always thought that science was supposed to be secular. Maybe if the name of the element that was discovered didn't carry such negatively charged name.
Like the number 666 what will people think of usually? But people don't know that this used to be code for Nero Caesar (the most evil man of the time). Although its just a number, I've known people who have refused license plates if the numbers are in sequence, or people who refuse to pay a bill (they will ask for a dollar discount or to add another dollar to the amount). Its crazy, but I understand
We understandably so take down statues/flags/change the name of places named in honor of historical figures whom other individuals may find offensive or might be sensitive to because of history; and yet when it comes to religion, its not the same (both good or bad, regardless). I wonder why.
@@mamacocolilo105 Well, for a long time to be educated, you were probably in the "priest class". My degree is in genetics and probably the most notable founding father of genetics is Gregor Mendel and his famous pea gardening experiments. He was a friar. I think you can be a scientist who is not secular if you have the right attitude. This is not so easy. Even "The Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin is full of homage to how incredible God's creation is. He clearly looked at natural selection and evolution as the way God creates. Often people don't know this because they don't read his work, they read about his work.
This explanation is really good, thank you!n

@@animatedbiologywitharpan sure
hello thanks for shareing this video to explain the assay!my question is where renilla internal control gene insert to the gene of interested?tyvm
Various plasmids encoding Renilla luciferase under different promoter constructs are commercially available. The validity of the use of Renilla luciferase as an internal control is based on the assumption that it is constitutively expressed in transfected cells and that its constitutive expression is not modulated by experimental factors that could result in either the upregulation or the downregulation of the amounts of the enzyme produced. During the past ten years, a number of reports have appeared that identified a variety of conditions that could alter the basal constitutive expression of Renilla luciferase.
Nice explanation. Could you please make videos on TF profiling?
Please elaborate what you exactly mean about TF profiling
Hello, could you please let me know how to produce dsRNA?
You mean cDNA ?
@@animatedbiologywitharpan Sorry, I don't know what was it exactly, but I refferred was "dsRNA" that makes target gene silence. Do you always produce cDNA to generate the so-callled dsRNA?
@@guihuajia7696 may be you are talking about RNAi
@@animatedbiologywitharpan Yes sir, i were talking about it. Thank you.
Why it’s in a vector ?
Why they trying to mess with human genomes ?
This has nothing to do with a human . It's to test biological principles
