I watched this video when it first came out and became a fan of the Escort Turbo. 11 months later I find a clean 1985 black Escort Turbo R/C car made by Nikko. It also has hidden Police lights. It has the original remote and it all works! $4.10 at the local Goodwill. Then I find out that Lady Diana drove a black Escort. Fantastic

Old School cool. Loved how all these era cars had rattles and tram lined on camber and bumps. Proper feedback cars, no dead feeling to them and no driver aids. So much fun to drive 👍
Fair play boys that was brilliant. I always wanted an RS Turbo but never did get one. I had a Lancia Delta HF Turbo instead, you know, the 1.6 Turbo right hand drive that was a rival to the RS Turbo at the time. It was a good car all except for the gearbox! I got through 3 gearboxe's in the time I had it on the road, and on the 4th I found a company in Weston-super-Mare that specialised in Italian cars and they fitted at great expense a reinforced gearbox. I never had any trouble with it after that, in fact it was a really good car and a lot faster than the RS Turbo!!!! Oh and I still have the Lancia, it hasn't seen tarmac in 17 years!!!
I created a Cabriolet version of a S1, owned it 26yrs now… Full bare shell rebuild, S1 engine, S1 wheels, S1 interior etc, etc… Still got it tucked away in my garage 😎🫶🏼

Your videos keep popping up and so far out of the 3 or 4 that I've watched...thumbs up! Nostalgia galore and of course,the cars I remember from my youth. Never was fortunate enough to own even a base version of any of the road rockets. Haven't seen any of them for almost 30 years...well,with exception to the Japanese wedges which luckily were sold in the U.S also. This is a car that is as rare as they come in the U.K,most have rotted away. I've had 9 of them over the years,a good clean 88/89 Widebody with the must have factory airdam is about about as good looking as any car from that period...had the performance too. You guys should try and find one that is stock and clean for one of your upcoming videos. Guaranteed that viewers that even knew what it was and were part of it all back then,would have a story like mine...I knew a guy that had a friend...that had one,it was fast!😎 I remember seeing a widebody racing an E30 M3 on my walk back from school,what a sound! Brilliant channel you lads have,always entertaining and nostalgic af. And the car? STARION GSR-VR!

Wonderful video, thank you both! I think the opening rear windows was the other extra in the ‘custom’ package. Also the grey series 2’s were Mercury grey if memory serves and lastly exhaust could be a Mongoose? ❤
All series 1's came with opening rear windows. The custom options were sunroof, central locking and electric windows.... and there was a stereo upgrade to the ecu1 stereo with electric aerial instead of the standard SRT32P stereo.

I used to know the guy owned C100 TAB. Had the underside sprayed polar white too and had it wrapped in bubble wrap to be trailered to the RS meets at Castle Donington. Was all original, no mods, low mileage wonder what that's worth now ?
This will make you laugh. I used to have a mk5 escort, which I used to drive to college. Couldn't afford the real thing, so I stuck some grilles in the bonnet and then an electric dump valve, 😂 it would make the sound through a speaker under the bonnet when you released your foot off the accelerator 😂 I honestly did think I was the bollocks. ( look back now, what a ....PRICK ) 😂😂

Forget the cosworths for me these are the ultimate 😎. I hear you mention the Recaro seats i still believe they are the best seats ever made for comfort and holding you tight. Also not alot of people seem to know that the Escort RS Turbo was the first front wheel drive road car in the world to use this compact viscous-coupling design limited-slip differential instead of a normal mechanical limited slip differential 😊.
Mint car, I always wanted a series 1 but could never afford one. Now I have mk3 xr3i, escort cosworth, mk2 rs2000 and a mk2 rs focus but still no series one turbo 😢

Mate of mine had one of these back in 1999 and even back then, thieves came in the nite and first broke in and hot wired his dads Vauxhall Carlton taxi and reversed it out onto the road just to get to his series one ( which the Carlton was blocking in) and they took off in the rs turbo which was never seen again

Hasn't got the original side stripes. Had an rs1600i and one of these back in the day. RS1600i was fully built and the series one made 225hp, went like the clapoers

There was a short lived TV series which ran in the mid '80s called C.A.T.S eyes. The female lead characters both drove Series 1 RSTs. C220 HVW (white) & C221 HVW (blue). I dunno if the registrations were genuine (there was also a Sierra 5 door, reg C222 HVW) or if the blue Series 1 was painted by the factory or done by the TV company to distinguish the two cars, but it was definitely blue. There are photos of it online.

man ..makes me wunna get my s1 back out of storage …. bought when i was a kid and never sold it ..restored and did concours in the 90’s when parts were still available ..tommi field low comp 1.6 cvh engine with all the bells and whistles ..standard they r pretty slow compared to todays average car … problem in todays climate u can’t leave them in a public car park with out some knob avin a go to take it …6yrs and counting on mine on axle stands in a carcoon …🙄🤷🏻♂️
Back in the day these were not reviewed well in the press, amongst the competition was the Astra 2.0 16V, which had 150 brake standard and handled better, much better. Thing is now, anything fast ford with a turbo is so collectable. Personally I'd rather have a Lotus Cortina.

Series1 turbo should havea 1.6 cvh not a 2.0 so an engine swap must detract from its value over stock.

If 2 litre got skimmed standard pistons,boost limited to 1 bar then?, normally 2.1, alot people used c20let pistons so can more boost.
White dials are not standard. Exhaust looks like a magnex to me, not scorpion 😊 to get near 200bhp on 1.6 block you had to spend a few quid.
