Vw must wonder why they gave you a top spec car. Surely they had a 800cc 2 cylinder version with manual gearbox, steel wheels and vynal seats that would be more your and everybody else's budget
Mark. Proper review. As you know, big VW supporter, by why oh why? Lifestyle? Golden early retirees? And an Up GTi has more BHP! Nope, it's a duff VW! Wrong on all levels.
Shocking price for this to be honest and a pointless model. My sister has a T-Roc with a 150hp engine and it’s quick! Plus the smaller T-Cross suits the 110HP engine.I honestly can’t see VW sell much of these in the R-line spec at 40K 👀 great review again Mark 👍🏻
So glad you mentioned retirees, because I'm thinking this would be a perfect car for my mother and it does seem to be the market its aimed at, good looking, economical, big boot, decent inside, nice controllable power for a pensioner. Great review 👍
I’ve been driving one for a week in Mallorca. My first time driving a 3 cyl VW - or any VW. Really enjoying it! Completely agree - TopGear are talking guff about the engine - it’s quiet & the 110 manual I’ve been driving is a pleasure to drive. I really like the internal finish. The one thing I don’t like vs a Toyota, is that with the Toyota, I can set the Adaptive Cruise Control and it auto stops behind a stationary car - the VW seems to prompt you to brake. Overall, a nice clean interior, good road-keeping & an efficient and quiet engine. I’m really impressed. Obviously the R-Line is an unnecessary option. I’ll have to check out the Polo and T-Cross to see the differences
It;s a pity we can't have the 150hp model here in Ireland. Got the 110hp a couple of months ago and still pretty agile so can't complain. Anyway, knowing how the petrol prices are these days better stick to this 110 :D. - Ah, by the way it's not 40K, close enough but not quite. Mine had a few extras (alloys, rear camera..) and was almost 36.
This is specced up with panoramic roof etc. we collect one in July for €33450. R line, reverse camera, led headlights, roof pack, manual gearbox…all the necessary stuff. Good deal. Yes it’s manual handbrake and air con but does that really matter?!
I have just been driving a taigo while my passat was in for repair. I didn't really like the 1.0 engine, driving position, or the hard plastic interior. But it does look good 👍
It's an odd one for sure but I think it did so well in other markets they decided to launch it in Europe. Very similar to a t-roc. I agree a small EV SUV would be nice in the VW lineup.
@@pato10111 let’s face it all German established marks are dragging their heels in moving forward with from the ground up designed EV’s. @@MrMalq Im pretty sure that's coming the tail end of this year. Something Passat sized. There will be a huge shift to EVs in the next two years in the Irish market. I'm even questioning if VW will replace the Tiguan at this point with the id4 selling so well for them.
@@pato10111 I so so hope :-) and with better political input to help the average Irish worker get into them. Better tax breaks are very much needed. No VRT for first time buyers of EV’s or something along those lines
Saw Bob's review of this a few months ago and interested to hear your take on it which as ever is very good. I think even though it's a top of the range, for what you get it's not great value for money, indeed I'd say poor value for money. I think the 1.5 is available in the UK but probably not in Ireland. I also don't see the point in it Vs a Polo or indeed the T Cross. Too expensive for what it is I think.
100% correct….I have a 221 polo style and it is exactly the same inside..info, nav, air con and 95hph for just €26000….this car is definitely not worth €40000

They sold me one. It was brilliant and cheaper than t roc..
@@patrik3450 yes we’ll it’s supposed to slot in between the T-Roc and T-Cross…

This one was over 40k
VW need to make up their collective minds’ on styling, function and drivetrain.
Not quite as attractive as the similarly priced Pug 308 reviewed last week???
R Line Spec 40k car with manual AC & Handbrake? With a glass roof? It just seems wrong! It's a pass from me!

Way to expensive for what you get. For that price I would want an EV
Great review Mark. R Line big money. Rav4 territory with that price.
It's so dull. And expensive!!!! I would choose Arkana over this anytime. And I will spare money for two vacations! :)
Stupid stupid stupid. This should have been an EV

How tf does Volkswagen make this th inf and the T-Roc and then give the US neither of them to instead give them the Taos?
These coupe suv's must be the most pointless class of car ever. Style over substance completely, and its not even nice style.

Another VW I can live happily without.
DSG only comes with the 110ps engine. The 95ps only comes with a 5 speed box and rear drum brakes. Homework please
And what version is this car? Automatic. F off, please.
😂
Why do we have this when we already have the T-Cross and T-Roc? Imagine paying 40k for a car with a manual handbrake!
Manual handbrakes are much better , you can have fun on gravel or snow , and a damned sight less to go wrong , why complicate things ?

Manual handbrake is a personal preference for me. Some people aren’t able for it and need the auto one, I understand that.
Of all the reasons to criticise its poor value for money, that would be way down the list.
Nobby Funny watching the kid in the gold Landcruiser eye balling you. he must be a strawberry alarm clock fan 🤣
Am I the only one that thinks an R version of this would be crazy fun?

Not too many of them on the road for sure
