Tell me those front and back lights, window line, dashboard, wheels and seats are not over designed? Elegant is the world you were looking for, not bland. Passat looks elegant, this looks busy.
Nah, this is fine. At least it's quite Teutonic. Of course the Passat looks much better, but this isn't too bad. It looks more grown up than the Ibiza at the very least.
Be honest everything on sale today is fussy, you are longing for the days of form follows function. The side creases on the latest Polo after the front wheel arch are unpleasant. Once you have been in the back of the latest Polo, you will notice the nasty thin flat seat cushion so they don't have to make it tip up to fold the seat down, the unsettled ride will have you longing for the days of the independent suspension of 205s and 306s, then you will notice the lack of grab handles, the latest Polo is not a quality small hatch anymore, it is now a cheap nasty family car built down to a price.
Great review as always. The Germans are slightly bigger than us brits so their cars mostly always have more room inside. Plus the build quality of the polo will surely last the test of time against its competitors. This new Polo does look like the design styling point for the Golf Mk8. That’s a good thing.
The 1.0 95 bhp is JUST about enough to do the job. Other than that, it is a pretty uninspirering engine, while being refined. But the 5 speed gearbox is as bad and cheap as they come with rubbery shifts. Go for the 115 bhp unit as minimum, if you are doing more than city driving. I will be waiting for the 1.5 tsi 150 bhp. It gives the same economy, 4 cylinder stability and transformes the car into something much more entertaining.
MKR Getting very tired of waiting for that 1.5TSI. Long overdue. But UK pricing crazily doesn't leave much of a gap between 1.0TSI and the GTI. I suspect VW will just make the latter more expensive...IF they ever get round to reading the 1.5.
@@paulsanders9584 I'd second that. I ran a Focus 1.0 Ecoboost for four years before I switched to a Golf Match Tsi DSG in 2019. The Golf is way more fuel efficient than the Focus ever was. I never saw more than 45 mpg from the Ford, even on a long run, whereas the Golf readily tops 50+ mpg (and 55mpg isn't out of reach). The Golf is also smoother, quieter, rides better and has a more spacious, better quality interior. The rubber door seals began to fall off on my Focus after 4 years. It cost me £170 to have new ones fitted. That really pi$$ed me off. The Golf feels like everything will remain in place as intended.. The Golf isn't blighted with the Ford's Flit Gun paint job either.........the paint seems just as thickly applied even in places you don't normally look, such as where the door hinges are etc....
Uninspiring compared with what? The Polo GTI's? Engines on Lotus cars? Ferrari? If you compare it with its contemporary peers, it's the top-of-class pick I think?
In brasil they make them with out the manual trunk opener. Just why? How much could it cost... so annoying. You can only open the trunk with the carkey or the button next to the paddle shifter.
Beautiful. Same could be said for the car. IMO Polo is the new Golf, I have the Mk 7.5 Golf atm but I miss the earlier models agility and feel. This years Polo finally has the good looks and the equipment of its bigger brother as well.
i keep watching reviews and coming up with the same conclusion. There is nothing bad i cant say about the golf, but i dont feel the latest models really justify the higher price mark compared to what the polo offers.
Trolled through the data on this car, and it seems you don't get cruise control as standard, only an advanced £600 adaptive cruise control as an option. Is this true? And does it have a GPF ?
The Polo is undoubtedly built to a higher standard, although ultimate reliability can be dependent on how the cars are driven, looked after and serviced. The Polo will retain more value after a few years if it is looked after......
I drove a 1.0 3 cylinder 2019 model for three weeks as a courtesy car while mine was being repaired. It was very interesting comparing this to my ancient daily drive MK5 Golf 2.0 GT TDI. It was very roomy inside, almost as roomy as my Golf, but the boot was alot smaller as expected. It felt solid and we'll put together. The brakes were a bit grabby and took some getting used to. Steering was light and it handled well. Touch screen display was good and easy to use if a little laggy at times. The cabin was comfy and the interior dash and lighting was very pleasant. The only gripe was the engine for me. It sounded unrefined and rough and would clatter intermittently when cold or stood for a short time. It felt very underpowered for the body too. You really have to work it hard even on the slightest inclines and it just dies. This is with one person in it too. On the flat it's fine, but you cannot even consider overtaking anything at any speed and it takes forever to get up to speed. I could not live with such and underpowered engine myself long term. I would be interested to try the other choices here. Fuel economy was pretty good overall.
So from your pain and agorny IT seems you must been driving the plain non turbo which also lays in the VW Up. No wonder IT was slow. 1.0 Tsi 95/115 is fast enough
